Zhuque-3 landing confirmed!

Reply in thread

It would need to be significantly larger to do either, and if someone had something come back from landing on mars it would be on every news station in the world.

A side note that is if we were able to get a sample that is already sitting in one of the rovers we could potentially scientifically prove alien microbial life exists or existed on mars.

I'm doing my part!

I wouldn't mind more competition but there's literally no reason to use egs over valve.

An example is instead of having a better review system than steam's basic good or bad they could of had a good, maybe, bad then had separate reviews for reviewing specific patches or something. But no the CEO said reviews are bad for devs LOL.

On top of that he's been vocal about being anti Linux and is full of garbage hot takes. And it really says a lot when he lays off staff that are part for Fortnite's $1.1 billion made

Proposal: Treating Anti-Vegan Discourse as Anti-Scientific and Incompatible with Anarchist Principles in Moderation Practice

This is absurd, and it's so vague on what is and is not "anti-scientific reasoning patterns" lmao how do you expect a non vegan mod (or any mod) to enforce that. If an account is repeatly harassing vegans about all the dead animals they eat maybe that's bannable?

An example of something that might be considered "anti-scientific reasoning patterns" I've already talked about on my Lemmy account is I don't exactly trust the corpos behind some vaccines. Am I vaccinated? Yes. Do I believe in vaccine science? Also yes.

If someone brings up of how much better they feel after going off vegan diet and switching to fish/seafood once a week, does that count as "anti-scientific reasoning patterns" in your book? Is it just up to whatever mod decides what is truth at the time?

And I'd like to be clear, I personally I think the meat and dairy industrial complex is one of the great atrocities of our time. Policing what meat eaters say won't turn them vegan

Trial re-federation proposal for lemmygrad

One of the lines in the sand for me is when people are unironically pro North Korea. I don't want that on my feed.

And to a lesser extent I don't want to see weird tankie bootlicking of China either. And I'm not talking about legit good things China has done when compared to other superpowers, I'm talking weird posts that read like full propaganda state sponsored bs, and if you disagree with them in any way they will dig through your intire account history to try and find something they can use instead of actually having a discussion about the topic you originally disagreed with.

Authoritarians don't want open discussion they will just link you half a shitty book explaining how there's actually no such thing as authoritarianism.

Edit: I'd like to add that searching lemmygrad for Ukraine will show some really awful takes. I want freedom for Ukraine same as Palestine, Tebet, Hong kong, el Salvador, ect just because the main empire in the west is on the fascism side of authoritarianism doesn't mean I will cozy up to other authoritarians.

Sad but true

This is a bad take lol. You can be charged with manslaughter if it's an accident and murder if you were trying to kill someone with your car.

Blatantly wrong takes like this just increase the cognitive dissonance between the anti car movement and everyone else.

GE-Proton11-1 Released

Reply in thread

I'd agree with that to an extent but it's far far more the fault of the oligarchy that are doing things regardless if they are getting money from it or not. There's a longer term push to monopolize compute in general and they have the chip making companies going along with it

Sickness be gone!

I'm generally pro vaccine. But I can understand why people don't trust the private pharma companies in the US. They have traded trust for profit. Just another reason medicine shouldn't be controlled by the profiteering ultra rich.

An epidemic preventing vaccine should be open to anyone that wants to use and copy it with the highest level of testing and oversight. Instead you have private companies making more money than god that will cut every corner if they think they can get away with it.

FDA chief resigns after Trump admin forced approval of fruity e-cigs

The whole no fruty flavors has always seemed an out of touch rule. Kids using any addictive substances is not good, but a few decades ago it was commonplace for kids to be cought smoking analog cigs. Ecigs are safer and have gotten more people to quit than just about anything, but they are also easier for a non smoker to get into. I think the problem is with how kids are getting access to them (from shady illegal online dealers mostly).

That said before big tobacco got involved the older style nicotine isolate vapes were much better at actually getting people to quit smoking. They don't give the same level of instant nicotine high you can get from the modern salt nicotine and if you are trying to ween off of nicotine they lessen or remove the cravings. It also helped they weren't cool, my favorite world I've heard people call them was 'mouth fedora'

America has lost its war with Iran

Good, the sooner this nonsense is ended the better. Good that Iran is getting money to rebuild. If only all the oligarchic and corpo backers were charged for the rebuild not broke US tax payers.

I swear half of the neo liberal talking points right now are trying to talking like trump pulling out is a bad thing. The whole war is bad and it would still be bad if we won in my opinion it would be worse if we won. I'd rather the US be a bit poorer than win and destroy another country.

They are authoritarian left and even though Russia is not a leftist country they will refuse to say a single thing bad about Russia, China, and some will even say nothing is wrong with north Korea. If you search the instance for 'Ukraine' you will see them saying Russia is the good guy in the Ukrainian war. They will say things like authoritarianism doesn't actually exist. I legitimately wonder how many posts are state sponsored lol. There are a lot of them on lemmy.ml as well

Punish the Democrats, she says

IMO it doesn't matter if you do a 3rd party protest vote if you're not in a swing state. The system is fundamentally broken by design

There seems to be a ton of finger pointing from liberals (mostly outside of leemy). Trump won on promises to gullible fools on literally making cost of living cheaper (this includes fascist and non fascist talking points)

The dems lost on not conveying their solutions to cost of living well and of course not taking a stand against the faction of war and genocide that many of them are actively working for or with.

A lot of establishment dems are just mad it's not their brand of authoritarianism

Arch btw...

Reply in thread

I've done full manual installs and archinstall installs of mainline arch and I would argue endevouros is arch. It's more than just "arch based" it's literally a basic arch install with calamaris. It updates from official arch repos and arch kernal ect.

While I only tell people I use endevouros I do not understand why anyone cares if an endevouros user says they use arch lol. What is the difference between that and something like archinstall besides slightly easier btrfs configs?

I'd consider CatchyOS to be in the arch based category but not EndevourOS

Are you ready for what it takes to stop ghost guns? New laws in California and New York might stop anyone from 3D printing guns — and create entirely new kinds of surveillance.

I rember in the US police had an event where in an effort that has had some success getting guns off the street is they were paying $200 per gun you turned in, including ghost guns no questions asked. Some legend heard about the event and quickly made quite a few working guns out of 2"x4"s, metal plumbing pipe, and a nail. He only used basic tools like a drill and angle grinder from what I remember. The police had to pay him too, but I think they changed the rules after

One problem the left especially the global left outside the US has when they talk about gun control they flat out do not understand how things work when so many people want something as much as people want guns in the US. Also how hard it would be to actually change the constitution. They were not able to stop people smoking weed or drinking alcohol either. It's going to have to be a major societal shift. I think there's a good chance we will see that in the next 50 years.

I support gun control wherever it's shown to actually work but a lot laws are being pushed by either someone with an alternative motive like the 3D printer laws, or have actually no clue and just want to put another law that sounds good to

The 3D printer laws are really a micro manufacturing and surveillance law that appears to be being pushed by a billionaire and a company in bed with palantir. It could kill open source 3d printers that are the only reason we have 3d printers in the first place. The guns people make with 3D printers require major components from actual guns that you can leagly buy because the parts are not considered a gun.
