Local officials face death threats and gunfire over AI data center projects — More than 500 towns restrict builds as councils shutter public comment
That's evidentially the only way, since the councils just don't care

One In Five Drivers Switches Off The Safety Tech Meant To Save Their Lives
When I was in Australia last year I was overwhelmed by how much modern cars beep at you. The worst offender by far was a 2025 Kia Carnival that had different beeps for every possible thing the system might label a driving error.
It was more distracting than helpful to be honest.

Which machine or technical sounds do you enjoy, which do you find annoying?
Old hard drives, floppy disk drives, record players; anything that plays back physical media, apart from modern disk drives. Those hardly make any sounds at all.
I love the distinctive sound a regular fat PS3 makes; the fans sound pretty weird but I associate so many good memories with that sound.

Perth man charged with threatening to kill One Nation leader Pauline Hanson
[Illich] told the court he did it because he wanted to shut down his Facebook account
There's truly no other way to do that /s
I love how he just looks like a regular guy on his picture while Hanson looks like she's about to drop the n-bomb on an indigenous person.

Nintendo Wipes Out 400+ Switch Emulator Repos in Single-Day GitHub Sweep * TorrentFreak

Why isn’t
GitHubMicrosoft telling them to get fucked?
They don't wanna be sued. Emulators are technically legal but Nintendo likes to abuse every loophole in the book to argue otherwise.

I think they don't really care actually. Sure, they could afford to defend the people who voluntarily spent 100+ hours to build a repository using their tools but what's in it for them?

Pointless rant about Visas
Reply in thread
Like 10 minutes after my call today I tried again, but got the same operator who was doing the same script (calling about travel restrictions or bridging visas? No? Ok, bye). I think I might call back tomorrow to see if I can get a different person.

Yeah, that vague "too many applications right now" is kinda suspicious...
I can't really explain why I like Australia so much, I just do; and I wanna get away from Germany.

I mean, obviously. A bit more transparency would be nice; I'd love to know which place in the queue I have currently.

I have no idea, I saw it on reddit and they didn't say. But I doubt it would make a difference.

Pocket was always among the first things I disabled when setting up Firefox and apparently, I wasn't the only one doing that.... I'm sure it had its users but I always found normal bookmarks to be more convenient.
Never even heard of Fakespot, though.

Google Earth's new AI image generation function didn't survive a day after users deepfaked disasters
What was even the point of this; what was the intended use case?
I'm serious, I have no idea who this is for. Other than to show people that their AI can badly superimpose pictures of Godzilla over maps.

Asus bombards Windows 11 with christmas.exe malware-like Christmas wreath banner
Who green lit this? I really hope that person gets fired immediately.
The lack of any visual link to ASUS isn't even the biggest problem for me; it's that ASUS rolls out a program that (presumably) puts itself in autostart by default and just pops up without prompt at all.
Edit: There's a fucking setting in the BIOS to auto-install ASUS' bullshit software? And it's enabled by default.... jesus fucking christ
