Musks old tricks aren’t working like they used to and the walls are closing in on him for Tesla.

The latest Roadster demo is a sign that he’s relying more and more on theatrics to sell cars. Ten years ago you could kind of buy that he would have full autonomous driving at some point. Other car companies are far more advanced than him and the Chinese’s are eating his lunch on electric vehicles and beating him in every market but the US.

He pivoted Tesla to robotics and self driving taxis but other companies are ahead of him there as well and he knows it.

He doesn’t have any tech to set Tesla apart and justify its grossly overpriced stock.

He wants to roll it under Space X to ride the only two advantages he has left Starlink and Rockets.

He knows the US government under any administration won’t let either of those two go belly up and wants to link them with his other failed or failing companies.

14

Probably also wants to merge it with Tesla to somehow trial space shuttle tech. I'm not sure how it relates but I think I read that somewhere before and it had real examples of how Tesla helped space x

-1

He has total control of SpaceX - he made it so "investors" have no ability to override any of his decisions.

He doesn't have full control over Tesla, because he's not a majority shareholder, and the board can vote him out.

He wants SpaceX to buy Tesla so he can have 100% control over all of it. I would place a pretty substantial bet that he buys Tesla with the same "non-voting" SpaceX shares that he sold to retail investors during the IPO.

15

I mean, he self funded it with something like 180 million dollars. He didnt have to take huge amounts of investors money before that 180 million was worth a shit ton more, and he had launch contracts with NASA to generate income.

So he made it, by building a successful company with his own money and then getting investors to take a small % of his ownership and they were seemingly happy to do it

Edit: really, this is every founders dream. Bringing in investors has so many strings attached and he was able to build something where he could significantly limit that. If you can bootstrap your business you'll be better off in the long run.

The main product of SpaceX is corruption, they also have a side-business in rocketry.

Tesla is a publicity stunt company that occasionally sells cars. It seems natural to merge the two.

See this is exactly why it was such a bitch to get the legal rights to use that name in the branding. Teslas family did not want to be associated with this shit and knew goddamn well that people who would market that name would use be exactly like this.

How so? I'm genuinely curious, don't know much about it, also not US-American

Musk used his informal position in Trump's admin to both cut funding to NASA and to direct contracts to SpaceX, and to squash federal investigations into his companies including SpaceX.

Trump authored policy that was favorable to SpaceX and he and his family heavily invested in SpaceX right before announcing the policy.

Also look up how spacex was awarded the HLS contract for Artemis. It’s pure corruption and fraud (facilitated by Kathy Lueders), and helps explain why they’ve failed to deliver what NASA bought.

SpaceX has been largely successful, despite Musk, because of Gwynne Shotwell. So Musk shoved X (which he led directly and was falling) into xAI (which was basically failing because it's bad AI) and then shoved that into SpaceX.

That didn't fail, but Tesla (which Musk leads directly) is now failing, too. So hey, let's do what worked before.

Honestly, I'm surprised he hasn't dumped The Boring Company on her yet.

18

Once read that SpaceX was so successful because they had specific strategies to distract Musk and keep his hands of the real operational stuff.

If he merges everything, it makes me wonder if he wants to get more involved and ruin the company completely.

13

He just wants to keep rolling the dice on his poor decisions until it pays off. I guess absorbing Tesla into the one "successful" IPO will hide the losses and leave the investors holding the bag.

68

I'm assuming doing so will make it more difficult to Nationalize when the time eventually comes.

Let me guess, a merger helps Musk hit profitability targets that adds another few hundred billion to his total compensation, while increasing his control?

52

Sorry, I keep forgetting - the right process is, imagine the worst possible pay package that Musk could realistically get, and then add a zero.

12

No, it's literally so he can say he is the founder once and for all.

10

If they are all one company how will he buy his own vehicles with his other company to inflate numbers?

8

He'll spin off another company and then merge it back in after a few years. Rinse and repeat to hide how bad the financials are/evade taxes/commit fraud

4

Tesla and/or SpaceX/Grox are probably looking like Wile e. Coyote four strides past the cliff edge. Keep slamming companies together to hide the loss to earnings and make the stock value go up. Got to keep the trillionaire status and make sure he can leave someone else holding the bag.

All will become X. Like a butthole.

A butthole full of shit.

He buys someone else’s good idea, promotes it as his idea, sues to say it’s his idea, the media buys that it’s his idea and touts him as a genius again, and he goes public with that company and merges them all once again

57

buys someone else’s good idea

You only forgot to mention the part where he does this not with cash, but with his shares in his failing companies as collateral.

I believe American taxpayers should prepare to bail out the resulting company. Soon. With mountains of money.

That's the price you have to pay to never own a flying car

9

I think it is actually the price to pay to finance institutional fascism

I'm assuming the larger bottle next to him is the ketamine, what's in the smaller one?

I can't wait to see what Elon can do for Tesla with the extra budget from rolling it into SpaceX.

Imagine how many amazing new promises and forecasts can be made and broken.

21

Ultimately you'll be able to summon your car anywhere … your car can get to you. I think that within two years, you'll be able to summon your car from across the country. It will meet you wherever your phone is … and it will just automatically charge itself along the entire journey."

He said that shit in January 2016 😄

I love that there are enough of those to be worth a separate wiki article.

The outlook of Tesla isn't great, so it is a perfect fit for SpaceX+xAI. All the brand new models are burning trash heaps, there are two cash cow models increasingly aging, even with the face lifts. It makes sense to consolidate everything into one big grift conglomerate.

Grok uses Claude, isn't even using it's own model. They gave up on that, because any competent staff they hire, leaves. Elon will go into history as the greatest incinerator of economic structure ever. The Epstein-class will forever regret letting him join. And Epstein knew...how crazy is that?

10
Jiralreply
lemmy.world

I had not heard of that. I think to stay correct, that needs some qualification. They have given up to compete with Claude on coding, so for agentic stuff the "Grok Bot" is using also Claude Opus 5.5. Grok still is an option too.

But yeah, it does sound like they are slowly giving up to compete at the very frontier.

1

Ketamine + Nazi != shareholder value

GROK! Solve this in a way that makes me lex Luther, not a parody of him. Make no mistakes.

3

Also, other companies are catching up in EVs and there will be a lot more competition.

How can you be in talks to merge with yourself?

(I’m referring to Elon not the company. I know they have their own president and board)

6

I predicted this when they had all their cars flying and shit. Its an advertisment for spacex while distracting from the car that theyre half a decade late to releasing.

Building supercars is always more time consuming than anticipated. The Bugatti Veyron was unveiled in 1999 but it was repeatedly delayed for 6 years until they started actual production in 2005.

Musk is still an asshat, but the the timeline for the new roadster is not weird or sketchy (yet...)

-13
Lydon_Feenreply

The roadster was unveiled in 2017, and was supposed to come out in 2020.

It's been almost 10 years since the announcement, and almost 7 years since it was supposed to be out on the streets.

Since then it was postponed, at least twice, to 2023 and then 2024.

Not to mention that what they presented last week is in no way shape or form, anything like was it was supposed to be in 2020. And it's basically a gimmick.

It's EXTREMELY sketchy.

37
ExcessShivreply
lemmy.dbzer0.com

Fair enough, I only had the "half decade" delay mentioned in the comment I replied to as reference, which in itself wouldn't be cause for concern.

-4

Oh and I forgot about the hundreds of millions of dollars they took in advances for the Roadster.

Hundreds of millions in what amounts to a no-interest loan of 10 years.

Sooooo sketchy.

23
lemmy.world

"Roadster" nah.

This isn't a roadster. It's a 2 door cybertruck without a bed.

The first Roadster was an actual roadster.

You know... An open cabin 2 seater sports car. That's a roadster. This? This ain't it.

10
lemmy.world

They could have come out with the original concept a long time ago. But that was never the plan. The whole thing was never anything but a stunt to grab attention. The flying roadster was certainly effective in that, but nobody is ever going to sit in one of those cars while the tanks are pressurised.

9

What's better than taking millions of dollars in deposits to build a crappy car? Taking millions of dollars in deposits to build nothing and have a no-interest loan with no maturation date.

2

Buddy...

Don't you think if anyone should aware of how long it takes...

It should be the people trying to do it?

Like somehow you're arguing that "everyone" knows this, yet Musk clearly doesn't.

5
lemmy.world

Is he trying to make it easier to seize them in the future? Everything except maybe for Tesla, which he is running into the ground by owning it, are international security threats.

6
sh.itjust.works

Musk's Starlink has been regularly fucking over Ukraine for years now. The EU's finally had enough and is planning their own system.

And, ultimately, some third-rate power without an advanced space program is just going to decide to hurl a bunch frag grenades into space triggering a Kessler cascade and then we'll all be back to an even playing field.

6

Ooooh this should be a fun implosion.

Let me put this in spacex talk…

Image a white drawf star….

1

Is this saying Musk talks to himself? It fits, I guess.
