I feel like apart from niche communities, Lemmy now has critical mass to survive on its own!

VK is a Russian Facebook equivalent, invented by Pavel Durov who himself was eventually cast out of Russia and went on to build and run Telegram. I think he's in France.

Correct, RR has unusual exception because it's the only blind-friendly Reddit app (which is legitimately amazing at that). And then other apps like the forked Slide (which I use) piggyback off of it, pretending they're RR so that they can still function, too.

Tesseract Dev (AdmiralPatrick) RageQuits Lemmy with Final Goodbye Message (and hid a DDOS script on his page)

This has never happened before, FYI. You literally came in at a weird time lol, probably even the peak of this random event. It's about some dev who made a web frontend for some Lemmy instances' desktop web browsers and went on a power trip to mass-shadowban people as he saw fit (he claimed to be anti-conservative even though the overwhelming Lemmy user base already is, FWIW). Now he's left, it seems, so I think things should calm down.

Why are so many Linux projects on Microsoft GitHub? Shouldn't they all move to Codeberg?

Fair, but what about the Copilot-pockmarking? And they're always one step away from a paywall... Why wait until it gets that bad versus at least duplicating elsewhere now?

That app seems not as transparent as it could be since it doesnt give any detail on the removed stuff; I recommend URLCheck instead, which is fully transparent about all trackers and even lets you pick which ones to remove at will.

Huh, I... didn't even think of that. I suppose people could download all the old content before this kicks in, at least, but yeah, that'll be the loss of new stuff moving forward, unless people can sway them over to nsfwlemmy.

Anyone want to play Peak with me?
I don't own the game and don't think it'd be my type, but if you ever wanna play Hellcard, I'm down!

Linux gaming is growing! The Roblox client Sober was downloaded 1.3 million times this year.
Curious: how do we know that these download counts aren't inaccurate from, like, a few bots repeatedly downloading to mess with the stats?

The groupthink on forums is ridiculous, and you don't need to be a capitalist nor anticapitalist to recognize that. I, too, hope that we can have healthy discussions of starkly different views.

Anyone who wants to try Linux but is scared of or reluctant about anything about the process at all: talk to me! There are multiple ways to try it with zero change to your system, like Oracle VirtualBox or a USB flash drive.

But that game hardcoded Use/Action to E while also allowing E to be mapped to move forward.
What if I told you (*insert Morpheus meme*)... that AutoHotkey may be able to force a remap? It could malfunction with some games but it usually works!
