Lost one of my boys a little over a year ago. Still get crippled with grief from time to time - maybe every other day now instead of multiple times a day. It gets easier, but never easy. In the process of getting a ring with some of his ashes built into them and I think that'll be pretty special to get to bring him everywhere I go.

You probably already know, but FoundryVTT is pretty fantastic. The software/base VTT itself is not open source, but the rule systems and modules (QOL add-ons) mostly are. I self host my own server.

Saw it yesterday with the kiddo. Lots of fun, great sequel, well worth a visit to the theater. Felt a little bogged down by a need to cameo almost everyone from the first movie, though.

Honestly I found it delightful. It was so fun to see so many faces again, and even the new characters melded in surprisingly well. My one gripe is I think they would have benefited from adding a layer of artificial grit or something so it didn't look quite so hi-def.

Nope, no it is not. Everyday religious people are as normal as any everyday atheist or agnostic, and believing in something should never be considered a detractor. Zealots? Extremists? Fuck em. Regular ass people who find comfort in there being sky wizards? Who gives a shit. And I say this as an atheist.

I work with a kid who I know listens to JRE often. He's kind and very smart. What I've found is that he lacks confidence and prefers not to speak even when he thinks he has the right answer, for fear of being wrong. He's depressed, and around this time last year checked himself into a hospital for a week. I know he recently started going to church, likely to try and find answers and support. He seems to mean well. All this to say, listeners of JRE may not be stupid or bad people. Some of them, a lot of them, I'd be willing the guess, are confused young men being brought to bad conclusions because they sound like answers and are wrapped with an "I'm just asking questions," bow.

Yup. Folks looking for stuff to be salty about. Those admins were protecting their hides and had every right to do so. Hosting carries risks. What could have been handled better was communicating this (a day or three beforehand + not on Discord lmao). The people acting like this is some sort of unforgivable problem are just being dorks. Don't like it? Pop onto a new instance. It's easy and is a perfect example as to why Lemmy is great.

Edit: Worth mentioning that the piracy community is among the most active groups on the entire platform. As a viable alternative to reddit, I don't think piracy being the face of Lemmy is a great look. Newcomers may start on LW and never need or want this community. Those who want it WILL find it.

For some, particularly businesses reliant on software that can't perform on anything but Windows (and occasionally MacOS), sure. For individuals it is much easier. Installed Linux Mint a few months ago and I set up a VM for the stuff I truly needed some form of Windows for (tried dual booting for a bit but found that inconvenient). None of these are insane lengths, unless the cutoff for that is, "anything above minimal effort."

Finish carpentry building science labs...as an architect who has recently taken an interest in building science, that sounds interesting. The jump from programmer is interesting, too. Like, did you have prior experience in carpentry, or did you go in blind?
