I'd probably spend a fair amount of time trying to figure out how it is possible I am stuck in a time loop, considering that violates the laws of physics as I understand them.

27

Great point. I don't think I could just go through this seemingly impossible situation without trying to figure out how or why.

6

Yeah, highest priority to me seems to be to figure out if you are still aging. Things are gonna start to suck pretty hard if you're in there for any amount of time and getting older.

Learn a foreign language till I'm fluent.

When the time loop finally comes to an end, pretend to have a seizure and after waking up only speak in the new language to troll people.

But why would you be so sure it will? What if you never figure it out and you're permanently stuck in the loop?

Because otherwise, whoever is playing this cosmic joke on me wouldn't be entertained.

hedonism. as much as all my savings could aquire in a day. the loop is a day right? we are talking groundhog day?

Yup he said loops once a day. At least that’s my interpretation of the term groundhogs day. Only problem is you don’t know when it ends

3
piefed.social

honestly assuming it goes on at least a couple of days you a multiple of the number of days in hedonism for the cost of your savings. seems like a good deal. now if it stops looping the moment you pull the spend trigger or you only get two or three days. ouch.

3

Yeah you would definitely feel like a fool when you woke up the next morning having blown your life savings and.... its just the next day and now youre broke haha

2

Oh man, what if your groundhog loop happened during an 18h flight to the other side of the world? I'd go insane.

Or what if you're undergoing surgery or bedridden with flu or incarcerated in a cell

There are so many situations where a groundhog loop would be hell

3

God, so much, that sounds like heaven. I'm incredibly interested in everything, and I'd pursue so many more skills if I had years of free time, especially if the world was basically paused around me. Learning instruments, learning languages, reading so many books. So many books.

You could throw me in a single day loop for centuries and I would be happily learning the whole time.

As someone with guitar calluses, let me say that if every time you practiced guitar was your first time, you'd give up pretty quickly.

6

Honestly guitar would be pretty low on my list, but I already have enough callous to get me through a day, and presumably the wear would heal overnight

In the short story groundhogs day is like 10000 years

Was @MantisToboggon asking how long each loop lasts until it resets, or how long in total?

2

Everyone is totally ignoring how recently I jerked off. It is critical to my understanding.

I meant how long each loop was, an hour ? A day? A week?

3

If we're going with a Groundhog day scenario I would pretty much do what he did. Some days or part of my day working on learning some skills such as piano. Mix up some hanging out and messing with people. I would try to spend as much time as possible with my wife and baby. It would be weird to have the same day with them but still want to see them

12

I'd use it as an excuse to get really good at my hobbies for a year or so with no long-term responsibilities getting in the way before even trying to break out lmao

12

FR I would finally be out of excuses not to learn Blender

Then I would use my knowledge for hentai commissions once the loop breaks

If I’m aging: start immediately filming an explanation and such for my wife knowing I’ll never see her move or speak again.

If I’m not, and there’s an end eventually: get caught up on sleep, clear my gaming backlog, take imposssible pictures, have a good time.

Why would you never see her move or speak again? Wouldn't that only be during a time freeze, and not a timeloop?

7

If he's aging within the time loop, then the loop will end when he dies. If that happens, he won't be there for the "final iteration".

4

Sleeping as much as possible. It's also what I'd do if I had the power to stop time.

10

Play video games that use passwords instead of saves. Then, get better at remembering strings of characters. Find enjoyment with the things I have, as it would be a pain to get the same things every loop.

10

I mean... I'm sort of doing that right now.

My routine is very consistent. Right down to eating the same meals every day so I don't need to think about what to eat, and I know what I'm getting at the store every week.

9

You're good though? You're still interested in hobbies or media and you're speaking with friends and loved ones on a cadence that works for you? I'm just asking because that's a sign of depression is all.

12

Learn to play the piano. Learn to fix my car. The car would always be back to what it was but the knowledge would stay with me

I think the first few hundred times through the loop from Stargate would be a good start

7
lemmy.dbzer0.com

I would do everything except to play video games, playing always from the same save point or from the beginning would get boring very fast.

6

Do the hypothetical traumas and consequences of my time loop actions somehow propagate into the broader, static universe, or can I safely commit atrocities knowing that each new capsule universe will dissolve into nothingness every 24 hours, resetting its moral boundary conditions each time?

Cuz I have big ideas, but there might be collateral damage.

6

Daytime depends on the season and weather; skiing, climbing or kayaking. Nighttime calls for grilling , chillin' and thrillin' no mater the season.

IRL I try to go skiing every ground hog day just in case.

6

::: spoiler CW suicide
I might just try to kill myself a few times in order to find the least painful way possible, both for me and for the world around me, just in case the loop ever stops and I had a real chance of escaping the suffering.
:::

But also, maybe punch a few assholes, or try killing people that damaged me during my childhood, because I've never done violence and I'd like to know what physical dominance feels like. Maybe ask a few girls out to either confirm or finally absolve me of my worthlessness. In one of the loops, I'd gamble. In another loop, I'd try all the drugs that my precarious government position makes difficult to try. Oh, what I wouldn't give for some pot and LSD. I'd move to a non transmedical society and finally receive HRT, although this wouldn't have any effect in one single day, so never mind. If I retained my memories each time, then I'd start studying anything and everything that I'm interested in. I'd learn to recite The Silmarillion by heart.

5

A little bit of everything I could manage within the space of the loop until I inevitably went mad because infinite repetition would destroy me just as it would anyone else.

4

What triggers the loop? Sleeping? Unsubscribing from life? There are many experiments to do if there will be no consequences

4

Depends how long the time loop is. Hopefully not like 6 seconds, but a day.

If it was a reasonable amount of time in the loop, I would start learning everything I could, like languages, stem topics, etc.

But I would also try to experience as much as possible. Learn how to speak in front of crowds, how much of a pain tolerance can I have, fear of heights, that sort of things.

Basically imagination is the only limiting factor.

Shitposting online and getting into contracts with people to become enemies.

Hey wait a second!

3

That's a different prompt. I'd change a lot. Not quite everything. Maybe I'd save my dad.

2
sh.itjust.works

I've off-and-on wondered about this one. A lot of learning to play piano is muscle memory. Would you retain that? And if you do, are you then in-fact also aging? How are people going to start reacting when you are noticeably older each iteration? Or if you let yourself go or decided to get buff? Things are going to get awkward relatively quickly.

2
JcbAzPxreply
lemmy.world

Your physical muscles aren't remembering anything, you just use less of your active attention on a task the more you do it.

4
lemmy.world

Well yeah, but that's all memories are anyways, I assume you get to keep those as you loop. Otherwise the time loop is just that "its impossible to tell" meme from Star Trek

4

In time loops in Star Trek, they typically take a while to figure out that they're in a time loop suggesting that one doesn't necessarily retain everything. I guess we really need to know what kind of time loop we're stuck in.

3

Depends on multiple things. If I didn't know it was a time loop I would just keep doing the same things over and over in blissful ignorance. If I knew, I would probably do what Cristin Milioti does in Palm Springs - study physics to figure out how to get out of the loop. Besides that, what I did for fun would depend on whether or not I can bring anything with me - like if it's possible to carry a notebook that doesn't get erased I might work on a novel. In any case I would spend significant time dinking around and trying to get laid a lot.

2

Eat the same breakfast every day until I'm sick of it, and then the next day it's back again

2

Learning. With breaks to play video games, spend whole days hanging out with my wife, and to get laid. Hopefully it happens on a weekend so I don't have to explain not going to work to my wife every day.
