Can you imagine being Chips-ahoy and messing up your chocolate chip cookie so bad no one cares about it?

Call of Halo? Halo of Duty? Call of Duty: Halo Warfare?

Listen, the marines were always cooler than the spartans. They were just normal humans against giant fuckin monsters with gravity hammers and energy swords.

This trailer still goes hard:

"Activision subcontracts Halo development to struggling studio, Bungie."

That'd be weird.

57

Activision actually did publishing for Bungie through the 2010s.

But the cherry on that hypothetical cake is that Sony currently owns Bungie.

Finally, Master Chief will get the weed skins he deserves.

Thank fuck halo is finally out from under the evil and twisted Microsoft! Now it can finally thrive under the great and understanding company Microsoft!

Well I suppose it'll be hard to do any worse than 343/Halo Studios has done with the franchise.

Never played an activision game, I take it? The floor is miles below the earth

29

I kinda feel like it'll be better because it's so obvious it'll be shit. I haven't care about Halo since Halo: Reach but it seems like 343/Halo Studios managed to make people hope and then deliver shit every time. Now it's just "it'll be shit" which is better, no false hope.

The last halo game was reach. I dont acknowledge anything past that. I might play the later games, but they arent halo

Halo Infinite had great gameplay, but it was ruined with moronic challenges which moved the objectives away from winning, and towards "I need to get 20 kills with this shitty weapon, even if it costs my team the win".

Objectives which move players away from actually playing the game are bad game design.

4

My thoughts on it (speaking of the campaign specifically) were that it had good gameplay elements in a bad gameplay context. The open world design just muted the action and thinned out the goals to accomplish without adding anything of value other than traversal. The few times I played multiplayer it did seem pretty decent, but I just dont care about that anymore since I only ever enjoyed halo multiplayer on a small scale with friends in the same room.

3

I can only comment on the multiplayer, I haven't played the campaign.

With all these studio closures and layoffs, its hard to imagine what will be left of the industry here in a few years.

14

With how strong AA and Indy game studios are, I'm not worried. Good riddance to the AAA studios sucking up oxygen.

It sucks to see, but what happens sometimes (not saying always) is the truly talented people who got laid off can band together to make another, smaller studio.

I for one think it wouldn't be the worst thing if the gaming industry got a small correction from its current direction. And don't get me wrong, I'm not a "all AAA gaming sucks now" kind of person (I'm on a FF7 Rebirth replay and cannot wait for Revelation). But I think overall, we need games with slightly smaller scope from people who are paid better.

8

And with more variety. With very few exceptions, it seems I've been playing the same few games over and over again for 30 years and besides graphics very few things evolved.

2

Did it hurt to carve out the fevered flesh? Did it hurt to sever the gangrenous foot? The swines of the industry spent the last decade butchering their own carcass and selling it in pieces, now they're horrified that they're bleeding to death.

(I recently replayed Forgor: Hog Machine. Mandus kinda had a point.)

4

There are some AAA studios that still do good and the AA and indie space is still doing great. It's not like there won't be any good games, I think it'll be an improvement where AAA shit will partly disappear with some bad left but the few good certainly still here and AA and indie just continue as it does.

1

I mean, not thrilled Activision has it, but at this point literally anyone other than Halo Studios would be better.

9

I know it's funny but the irony is that was one of the scrapped forks of Halo Infinite; as in having operators like COD.

Because closing the studio you hand picked to carry the franchise that used to set retail sales records explicitly says “we shit the bed” to the community and more importantly(to them), shareholders.

10

That makes sense, as I was thinking about it I realized that Infinite is still ongoing so they need to keep a barebones team around for support of that. But honestly I hope it goes away. Is so pretentious and cringe having a game studio named after the game series.

3

Couldn't they just frame it as having reached the peak of what the Halo IP has to offer?

It's not like shareholders know shit about fuck, and the community doesn't even exist in Microsoft's eyes

1

They should farm Windows 12 out to Bungie and then shut them down too.

6

Good! Never has there been a more deserved studio closure. Campaign Evolved was a rushed mess.

5

Microsoft screws latest Halo Activision screws latest black ops Blizzard screws latest Diablo (is that true? Not played)

Now we swap franchises so people can be milked thinking there might be a chance they will de-shittify it

Master chief and Nicky Minaj and snoop dog, killing unforgiven? (I forget the next level of history back they keep going and what the names are)

We remade halo again again, big news, there's still a grave mind somewhere! More flood!

Same old cruft. Bad decisions, lay off staff, repeat until they buy another house.

All this time and there’s still never been a better shooter than Golden Eye.

3

Yeah, but those are a combination of cover based shooter and RPG. Not really in the same vein as your typical shooter.
