Me too, lack some features I like from other apps like Boost, like ability to block people/communities from the homepage but still the best overall.

You can, long hold the username or community and a quick menu appears.

Wow, thank you! Been using Voyager on both my tablet and phone pretty much since day one and only now learn about it.

Not sure if it's available on F-Droid or not, but I've been using Summit lately and absolutely loving it. Blorp was my previous favourite, but I prefer the bit more modern and clean UI of Summit.

I did try Jerboa about a year ago when I first tried Lemmy, but quickly dropped it due to UI/UX issues I was experiencing at the time, but I would personally just stick with Blorp if it was between them.

Voyager was another I tried previously. Earlier I tried on my other phone (HMD Skyline) and consistently had performance issues with the app (long load times, occasional crashing, janky scroll). When I got my S25 I thought this would be solved with the more powerful device, and while it was much better than before, I still had performance issues.

Hope this helps a little!

Blorp dev here. Just out of curiosity did you not see the same performance issues (e.g. scroll) with Blorp that you saw with voyager? I’m using similar technologies to voyager, so this would be helpful in informing future decisions I make.

Hi! No not at all, at least for me on both devices (Skyline and S25) Blorp ran great! If I get bored of Summit I'll immediately return to Blorp ☺️

honestly Thunder doesn't get enough love in posts like these. you often expect FOSS apps to not be very good, but I can't imagine using anything other than Thunder at this point

7

Could not agree more! Thunder is actually better experience than some of the paid apps I used for Reddit... You know when they still had an option for a non-shit tier mobile experience 😬

4

Many lemmy apps also have a web app:

Off the top of my head:

  • Voyager: vger.app
  • Blorp: blorpblorp.xyz
  • Tesseracts: t.lemmy.dbzer0.com
3

everything is the right size, strips away unneeded visual elements, optimized for touchscreen controls

5

Yeah the piefed UI in a browser is perfectly fine.

2

I used jerboa for a long time and liked it a lot. But it is optimized "just" for lemmy. It cant operate (in my experience) with piefed instances.

if you want to use lemmy and piefed for example, Interstellar is a better solution.

I've only used Jeroba. It works great for me, but with the google garbage going on, Im going to have to root my phone to sideload? I guess? So. thats my summer plan.

Is summit foss?

On its github there is no license.

Blorp dev here. What I can I do to bring Blorp to the top of the list in your opinion?

11

I'm using Boost (and Vger but preferred Boost from Reddit days too). I got used to Infinity on Reddit after Boost ended and wish they'd make a Lemmy version of that now.

6

As a former RIF user, I haven't found anything better than Jerboa. Which is shame because it will never support piefed.

6

Also a former big fan of RIF and I found Boost a fairly easy transition.

I like Blorp but it could do with showing parent comment while replying.

Yeah I'm asking for other app mainly for this reason.

Blorp dev here. What if I fix this in the next release? Would that convince you to stick around?

Edit: spelling

Looks good but have you considered something like reddit bubble, you can scroll all replies without closing editor. I like Blorp better but reddit bubble is very convenient.

Also when there is draft comment, if not troublesome add some indicator that there is draft on reply button.

At first I was surprised when I used Blorp how to reply for main post and took me embarrassingly log to figure out you write it on bottom, suggestion add also reply button to post similar to when you reply to comment.

1

Yeah, there are a few things that Reddit does better. Just gotta take baby steps, but we’ll get there. This is the easiest solution to implement right now, so I’m going to start here. But I agree that I can be even better.

2

Boost while not perfect has very few flaws for me. Whenever I receive a DM I have to go the web interface to get the notification to go away though. But that's the worst of it

4

I use Thunder, and I am very happy with it generally.
I used to use (and paid for) Sync for Lemmy previously, but I had the impression bugs didn't get fixed, so I switched away from them.

4

Summit, by far. Voyager gets a lot of recommendations but it's not nearly as slick.

3

Used to love jerboa but stopped working for me. I think is because of my instance. I use photon now, it's ok.

I'm trying Blorp right now, since I do not want to figure out how to side load Jerboa onto my Android. (Thanks Google you bag of dicks.) So far Blorp is great, my only complaint being I wish three was a way to increase text/font size because I am old now and my eyeballs don't work as well as they did.

3
lemmy.world

Blorp dev here. I think you should be able to increase this via some system setting, though admittedly I've only tested this on iOS. The goal was to read whatever os preference you set for font size, but if this isn't working for people, I may need to add an app level override.

3

I've been using interstellar (alexandrite on desktop) for some time and rather like it. Nice clean and useful UI, a bit buggy at times. Only other one I tried was voyager but wasn't a huge fan.

2

Jerboa. It was the first one I found working and installed, and didn't see a reason to change unless it stops working - like RiF before it. If it aint broke why switch.

you'll be experiencing problems soon. I recommend you switch to something else, like summit.

sync dev abandoned the project and ran away with the subscription money without any notice

1

I use connect. No other reason than it's the first I tried and I've not been annoyed enough to switch.
