I'm having trouble finding klitoris in the repos. Anyone know where it is? AUR?

it can take an entire lifetime to find klitoris. just buy my $999 (now $666 for a limited time) course where i will show you how to sometimes find it 100% of the time guaranteed*

It's in the AUR as klitoris-gtk-git. Or is it klitoris-qt-git? There might have been a klitoris-qt-bin but the maintainer stopped updating that one like a year ago and nobody's picked it up. Actually now that I think about it none of the AUR versions are up to date, you gotta get it straght from github. Ah, no wait that one's a fork, the OG is on sourceforge. Or was it gitlab? No no no actually I remember now, it used to be up on gitlab but they moved over to GNU Savannah, so the gitlab version is out of date. Oh by the way it relies on old versions of libraries and other dependencies that no distros actually have in their repos anymore. It won't compile with the newer versions of those dependencies and they don't provide a binary. People are complaining about that on the Issues page but it's only developed by like one guy and he doesn't even know why the newer versions won't work he just knows it works on his system. Still refuses to provide a binary though. Oh right there's that fork I mentioned, that might work. Ah wait nevermind that was an attempt of making a gtk version of klitoris but the developer abandoned that project unfinished and hasn't been seen since 2022.

I believe you're thinking of gSPOT, it's still stuck in development.

2

I once knew someone that claimed to get gStreamer working, I think they were just bragging.

1

Klitoris got removed during an FGM event, it's no longer there. Got removed alongside with lib-ia-minora.

3

Imagine a screenshot where someone is chatting with copilot, asking it to help them find copilot and copilot replies with frustration that the user needs to be more specific.

Alternate answer: just click any icon.

When foss Cockpilot??

(Cooperative Open-source Communications & Key Processes Integration for Lean Operations Technology)

Well, if Apple is getting a new CEO then Microsoft should go all in and hire Xzibit to sell copilot.

On Linux it's klitoris, forked to CLItoris, then open-clit, then freeclit then onepiece

Some people definitely rewrote it as μCLIt and BSDclit for size/licensing reasons

And then there will be endless discussions if it should be pronounced uclit or microclit

It is so hard to troubleshoot issues with Photos. Why did they ditch iPhoto.

More like Linux: "Kritoris" which achtually is a 2500 year old greek symbol for harvest tools.

Linux devs would name something “Klitoris” literally just so the project website could say “you’ve finally found what you’re looking for”

If it was written in python it’s PyMagpie. Qt? QtPie. Rust? IThinkImSecureBecauseTheLanguageIUseButTheresMoreToItThanIUnderstandPie JavaScript? IStealAllYourRAMAndaiDontCarePie.

40

IThinkImSecureBecauseTheLanguageIUseButTheresMoreToItThanIUnderstandPie

what is this nuance doing here?

8

10x devs just vibe code it in Rust to balance out the security issues 🤔

It's in the middle of the Thinkpad keyboard

Devs can’t find it, blue team always find it too late, and the pen testers know all about it and aren’t sharing.

That's just KDE. But why am I imagining a mirror dimension universe where its called CDE and all the software names are normal words with the k's replaced with c's.

15
piefed.social

Is this just a reference to The GIMP or are there other common apps with dodgy names? I'm struggling to think of any.

9

The app starting with K is probably a nod to how KDE names many of their projects something that starts with K. (Konsole, Kate, Kdenlive, Krita).

The litoris part probably refers to how linux apps often name things after random weird stuff, e.g. gimp, but it's not always genital/sexual related I guess.

Latex is just a kind of rubber, and a material produced by some plants used for making rubber. Sure, if you're not careful when googling, you can get dodgy results with "latex" in the terms, but that seems to me to be of a different calibre.

I'm sorry what? What about:

  • Shoes
  • Gloves
  • Tyres
  • Elastic bands
  • Balloons

All of these are made (partly) from natural (i.e. latex) rubber.

Hmm, fair enough but I would say latex gloves and latex condoms are equally prominent (the latter obviously not helpful as far as avoiding dodgy results on Google)

Windows names sound like a boss fight, Linux names sound like a typo that stuck 😭

6

You are having very strange ideas of a "boss fight".

Just found out that the Gimp alternative "Pinta" shares its name with a rare human skin disease caused by infection with the spirochete treponema carateum (apparently). Which of course is miles better than sharing it with a slur for disabled people, but still not the best SSO.

-3

I've never heard gimp used that eay luckily, only the sexual slave fetish thing.

Pinta is more of a paint.NET alternative than a gimp alternative

Things don't have to be named after things to sound offensive to people if they have phonetically the same name.

It's something you might have called someone with a physical disability on the school yard in the 90s but I have not heard anyone use it in that way in a long long time

5

I've never seen it used as well, hence the "apparently".

Even wiktionary lists this as Etymology 2 with little explanations

Unfortunately GNU Image Manipulation Program, when shortened to its 4-letter acronym and common name, is also a slur against people with disabilities.

The developers didn't name it after the slur on purpose, but they also refuse to change it for some reason :/

-2
semreply
piefed.blahaj.zone

Is that a movie called Sex? Pretty sure the developers didn't know about that either

1
lemmy.ml

Yes, a whole franchise actually. Very popular online. Many of the films star the Gimp

1
Grassreply
sh.itjust.works

Should have at least been GNUIMP. Maybe people would have used it.

3
semreply
piefed.blahaj.zone

Why not just GIP Gnu Image Program? Manipulation is honestly kind of a given.

1

yeah that's way cleaner. Student me would have used it just to not be using photoshop or ms paint

2
Malfeasantreply
lemmy.world

Because it's not commonly used that way. If we avoided anything that had at some time been used as a slur, we'd only have about 3 names to pick from. (Of course I exaggerate, but it's better than saying "it would retard growth", isn't it?)

2

Pinta is more like a fancy paint alternative.

It has layers but it way more accessable than gimp
