Usas economy relies on other countries use of oil.

USA is going to collapse once the world wakes up to the fact it's being played out like a Mafia controlled neighborhood.

They rely on other countries using the Petrodollar, not buying oil. Once other countries move to another currency America will go bankrupt, and that isn't speculation, it's very much reality. America is doing everything to stop this.

It won't work though, the talk have already started happening. Americans better get used to the a lower standard is living because it's going to be impossible to increase moving standards under the current debt.

The petrodollar was slowly dying already and the iran war is the final nail in the coffin

11

One of the reasons the petroyuan was created was that Russia, Venezuela and Iran may be able to avoid the United States' sanctions, so nations such as Saudi Arabia, one of the main oil producers and extractors could avoid dollar hegemony and U.S. pressure. The yuan's main problems are its volatile liquidity and short scale extension, however the Chinese government intervened increasing its gold reserves to back the petroyuan.

Lower? Bitch if we stop being a world power our standard of living will probably get higher. We can stop wasting all our resources on the military and propping up stupid shit and actually get some fucking healthcare.

3
krisevolreply
lemmus.org

I disagree with this, our standard is living is only possible because we "tax" the world though money printing. When other countries stop using the dollar we will no long be able to run on debt. A lot of things we pay for will shutdown.

Like the government? And the airports? And the parks?

2

And moving away from oil is a good way to move away from the petrodollar, too. (Not to mention better for our future.)

Hey, if we all club together we could get through the first few stages of getting our own windfarm approved and then Trump could pay us a billion to cancel and we all walk away with a share.

Who's in?

161
lemmy.world

wait that's it you're a genius. Al controlled wind farm. we'll use Al to turn the farm to face the right direction so it gets the most out of the wind (al is a loose hing at the top of the windmill don't tell anyone. or we hire a guy named AL. i dunno)

9

Hire a guy named AL to point the windmill and say it’s AI (just use a non-serif font)

7
Swedneckreply
discuss.tchncs.de

there's no precise definition of AI, it can just be an arduino taking the input from a couple sensors to decide where the turbine should point.

2

I feel like in that case laws would suddenly exist for billionaires again, for just that case. "You defrauded the government!!"

Bring the money to Canada and build it here!

6

You take the billion bucks, fold the company, start a new company, and build more windmills!

3

I think that was referring to Trump exclusively. I do not remember Tony being a pedo, nor do I know of any accusations towards James Gandolfini himself

Just a criminal, racist, homophobe, murderer, misogynist. And I don't doubt that his character could off-camera "fuck" some 17 year olds. So, pretty close to Trump on all accounts minus the incoherent ramblings.

5

I have an idea... Take the money... And then do it anyway. That's what he did countless times in his life

The terms are that the trump admin will give them the Money only if/when that french company builds a gigaproject on fossil fuels. And it's 99.9% sure that he will change his taco mind on that when it's time to open the wallet

11

Ahh so then they should pull their pants down (and their underwear) and say 'do me like you did Bill Clinton and then we'll talk!'

4
lemmy.zip

This is beyond stupidity.

China will be decades ahead in energy with these moronic decisions and eventually that’s also proportional to AI scalability.

The more America becomes the villain, the more it is causing other countries to realign to the Middle Kingdom.

9

I never realised how tiny Winnie the Pooh's hands are until now.

7

fortunately everything isn't run by federal decree. as much as they wish. setbacks are not permanent but when the factory down the street shuts down, they lose support.

3

Just to be clear, this money was already spent by the previous administration on federal leases that were going to be used to build these offshore farms. The government will now be reimbursing the company the money it spent on those leases. Not quite just paying the company to not do something like the headline makes it seem. But that's now $1 billion that could certainly be put to better use elsewhere that will be wasted paying this company back.

It's also embarrassingly short sided for a myriad of reasons but that doesn't matter anymore. We're great again!

7

it's about the offshore view from his golf course. self-serving scumbag. needs oil platforms

sh.itjust.works

I can't imagine thinking wind turbines are ugly. There's something wrong with conservative brains

14

Yes.

Primarily, too much fear response. Fear makes you stupid.

Secondarily, too much in-group loyalty. They'll do and believe anything if that's what the group believes.

Easiest question to shut them up: "Would you rather live next to a wind turbine, or an oil refinery?"

5

coming from the same people that wouldn't hesitate to sell yosemite to a megacorp.

2

What's hilarious about all this is if you actually go there and look out to see you can barely even see the wind turbines.

11

As a huge metal fan I love this but as a wind power fan I regret to inform you those aren't made of metal, they're composite, metal is weigh too heavy and expensive.

9

I would like to throw my hat in the ring and say that I will not build a wind farm for a mere $500M

41
lemmy.world

Yeah, cause drawing a giant federal target on my back during the most oppressive, likely-to-murder-Americans regime in our history is a good idea.

Got any other Shark Tank worthy gems for us?

Yes. Obey in advance. Work towards the fuhrer. Snitch on any brown neighbors to ice even if you were in the room when they were born. Post exterminationist anti-queer propaganda on twitter. Offer the cops who polive you free donuts and coffee. Invent a new fascist political tendency. Be the vanguard of every lynch mob. Join the kkk. Start an apocalyptic christian sect. Beat your wife. Enlist in ice.

Do whatever it takes to keep yourself safe!

Not inviting the IRS to audit my family is part of why I have the upper class luxury of being able to skip work to go protest.

The freedom to beg them to stop is absolutely worth paying the salary and buying the gun and buying the bullet that will fucking kill me.

Thank you comrade. Thank you for your solidarity. A few more like you and the worlds ptoblems will be fixed. How can they not listen to your voice when you obey so completely?

Love you too, sexy.

The day people like you accept the fact that the umbrella of antifascism covers everyone who hates fascists, not just everyone who thinks, fights, and advocates like you will be a good day.

Until then, have the one you deserve. 💋

4

Im saying the sacrifice is larger than the effort in your case. Protests are no longer meaningful anti-fascism.

I will gladly update my W-4 to stop withholding federal taxes as soon as you manage to convince everyone else in Kansas to do the same

1

I would bet my left leg that you haven't abstained from paying federal taxes either

The Interior Department hailed the “innovative agreement” with the French energy giant and said, “the American people will no longer pay for ideological subsidies that benefited only the unreliable and costly offshore wind industry.″

You're killing the market with your undercutting. If we're going to be Not Building Oligarchs, we have to rig the government procurement process. Nobody can go under $750 million.

9

Let’s not build one for $1B and put it toward actual infrastructure, covering states in the order they joined the union.

3

Think theyll pay my company to not install the ~4M in solar we have lined up?

1

Also, won't anyone think about the fact that Trump literally makes energy policy based on the fact that he thinks wind turbines are ugly?

11

Take the money and use it to fund renewables anyways. Trump loves breaching terms of contracts, I'm sure he'd be cool with it.

18

He really is still salty Scotland built some and spoiled the view off his golf course.

16

You might be onto something. Isn't wind a pretty big annoyance for golfers ? And we're talking about the guy who watched a solar eclipse with his bare eyes here.

Not anymore. It's only problem for the rest of the world. If MR president does not like it, then they won't get perks like wind farms.
They normalized pedophilia, and now they normalizing wars, at some point people are this is fine, lets wait mid terms, right? They don't care about climate change. Just watch some NBA this week and see how people care.

2

Yeah but the climate change wars will not go the way the Americans think they will. It'll topple itself by sheer virtue of its geographic size once the real shit hits the fan, and the former allies will be there with puppet warlords ready to carve up the interior.

Is how I'm putting that in my "looking for in retirement" section of the ol' Grindr profile

2

Yes and no. It opens up a lot of land and minerals to us, we're just not so morally bankrupt as to want to take advantage and encourage it like some demented orange fucks, and given the way Americans have been over the last while, Canadians will do what it takes and unify to protect our borders from the little American tribes that squabble below us in the divided oblast.

Folks closer to the equator are truly fucked. Say bye bye to Jabba's Palace ie Mar-A-Lago, not that Donald the Demented will be around much longer anyway.

Paying not to build something feels like the most expensive way to do nothing.

13

They are not really getting paid, they are getting the money back they paid for windfarm permits and in exchange they have to invest the money in oil and gas in the US.

11

Now the French will learn that Trump never pays his bills, the check is in the mail so to speak

Oh, it's not his money? I got nothing

6

Pay them 1 billion, they pay someone else 900 million to do it instead. +100 million profits

5

Live your myth in USA! USA! USA! USA! Let's go Trump! Trump! Mid terms!!

3

So hold on, doesn't this mean that companies can just threaten to build wind turbines and get a bunch of bribes? Any sensible businessman would immediately spin up 500 companies to do this as fast as possible.

2

Instead, TotalEnergies will now spend the money on the development of a new liquified natural gas plant in Texas that will help export US LNG overseas to Europe, CEO Patrick Pouyanné said in a statement.

2

I guess it was being built with federal money or in federal land/sea? The states can still do their own thing and they should.

2

If you pay american taxes you are guilty.

Dont ruin literally everything. Tell irs to fuck itself.
