Journalist sacked for doing actual journalism at EU press conference

News is from last year, but it's still dystopic for anyone that missed it:

At a European Commission press briefing in Brussels on 13 October, Nunziati asked the spokesperson Paula Pinho: “You’ve repeatedly said that Russia should pay for the reconstruction of Ukraine. Do you think Israel should also pay for the reconstruction of Gaza, given that it destroyed much of the Strip and its civilian infrastructure?”

on 27 October, the journalist received a letter terminating his working relationship with the news agency, which, however, did not specify the reasons for this decision.

The Agenzia Nova news agency told Fanpage.it that Nunziati’s question was “completely out of place and technically incorrect” and had created “embarrassment for the agency”

There's yet another study about how bad AI is for our brains

cross-posted from: https://mander.xyz/post/50596810

“We find that AI assistance improves immediate performance, but it comes at a heavy cognitive cost,” the study declares. Researchers went on to state that just ten minutes of using AI made people dependent on the technology, which led to worsening performance and burnout once the tools were removed.

The study followed people who use AI for "reasoning-intensive" cognitive labor. This refers to stuff like writing, coding and brainstorming new ideas, which are some of the most common use cases.

Trump Says Intelligence Played No Role in His Decision to Start War

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Confirming the suspicions of many in the international community, on Monday Donald J. Trump revealed that intelligence played “no role” in his decision to go to war with Iran.

“People keep asking me about intelligence,” he told reporters on Air Force One. “I made this call with no intelligence whatsoever.”

“Quite frankly, every decision I’ve ever made in my life I’ve made without intelligence,” he boasted. “Intelligence is for losers.”

Trump added that “I don’t trust people who have intelligence, which is why I love Pete.”

Defense Department Says Strait of Hormuz Mines Are Clearly Marked by Floating Debris and Fire - Unsourced News

Seeking to reassure jittery global markets and several oil tankers currently reversing course at full speed, the Defense Department announced Thursday that Iranian mines scattered throughout the Strait of Hormuz are “clearly marked” by helpful indicators including floating debris, columns of fire, and the occasional secondary explosion.

According to defense officials, the debris field created by earlier explosions has effectively formed a “natural warning system,” guiding ships away from the most dangerous portions of the strait.

“In many ways, the system is self-organizing,” the spokesperson explained.

Forget Maga. Welcome to Mega: Make Empire Great Again | Mehdi Hasan

Marco Rubio arrived at the Munich security conference with a disturbing message for European governments: empire is great

The US secretary of state delivered what can only be described as a 22-minute ode to empire. A love letter to conquest and colonialism. A proud defense of the west’s territorial expansion.

And the response to his remarks? Europe’s elites gave him a standing ovation, as if he’d just announced a cure for cancer rather than the literal return of empire. And in doing so, they made themselves shamefully complicit in the Trump administration’s rewriting not just of US history, but European and world history too.
