Opeth, although I don’t love their more recent drift away from death metal (dear god it’s been a decade now). I’ve really loved Cattle Decapitation’s newer stuff, too.
Oh and I second the guy declaring that Wu Tang is for the Children
I was never as into Ween as some of my friends were, but The Mollusk is a masterpiece IMO.
It's kinda like Mr Bungle - California. If you can casually make an album of pop music that good, you have my eternal respect, even if I never fully get into the less approachable work.
The Mollusk is amazing. Not really explored any of their other work because I don't want to be disappointed that it doesn't live up to the brilliance of The Mollusk.
I got a few songs into Citadel and I want to like them, but I feel they'd be better served as instrumental based on the painters of the tempest trilogy and pyrrhic. I'll see about giving Exul a chance though, thanks for the recommendation!
Thats fair! The instrumental portion is absolutely where my ear is tuned Into. The guitar solo on Misericorde pt 2 on Exul is one of my favorite solos of all time and I've heard a LOT of guitar solos.
While Chester was one of kind - I really like Emily Armstrong. I saw them live a few months ago and she put on a SHOW. I got worried when the first few songs she was getting the crowd to sing most of the lyrics for the old Chester stuff, but then she let it rip for the second half and fucking tore the place down.
I think she's perfect on the new music but her singing the old stuff just isn't there yet.
Which is fair, she will improve on that but I think she just needs more of her own music before she will get a fair response from the crowd. Which is just a matter of time so this isn't even a complaint
Did you get some wires crossed here? After looking it up HMC is electronic music by a guy named Kim Cascone. The group you seem to reference is simply Fripp & Eno.
I know, but I don't dwelve in celebrities personal lifes. Otherwise I wouldn't have anything to listen to or any movies to watch. Money and fame makes most people assholes..
Between the Buried and Me is one of my favorites, as is Parkway Drive recently. Other top artists are ones like gloryhammer, Amararanthe, and Alestorm. Outside of metal, bands like Supercommuter/Optimus Rhyme, MC Frontalot, mc chris, and Captain Dan tend to be my most played
One of my favorite random artists I've found recently is Anthony Vincent who makes songs covers in the style of other artists, and I just can't get enough of Mr Brightside by A7X
Of course it's kind of a situational thing, favorite band can be different depending in when it's asked but I think Love has been the one band I never take a break from listening to and never get tired of.
Talking Heads is a very close second, and then many many more close third.
I really want to start sharing music more, but I have to find good ways to share the playlists I make.
It's so hard to choose one but I'd say Blind Guardian. If you love fantasy novels then you'll enjoy their songs. They cover LOTR, WoT, SA, The Witcher, and so many more. They've had consistently good albums and are always refining their sound, they've even released a full progressive symphonic album based on the pulp novels of Solomon Kane.
Asylum Street Spankers, Beastie Boys, Yoko Kano & Seatbelts, and from the “still performing” column, Alex Lahey. Though I guess she’s less a band and more a force of nature.
Rush. Love the 70s and 80s eras especially, but it's like having several favorite bands to choose from! If I'm in the mood for synths I'll put on Signals, or if I want something heavier I'll play the self-titled album. I literally never get sick of their songs though.
I only got into Rush as an adult, but I spent probably 1-2 years listening to almost nothing but Rush. Hemispheres definitely came out my favorite in the end, but I really enjoy most of it ( Though I could take-or-leave some of their later stuff, especially Presto which is just produced weird and tinny.)
My current favorite band / musician is STOMACH BOOK. The main overarching theme she presents is trans pain manifested in anger and wrath. I love it, I'm not even trans.
I mean, it's great, but it's basically Black Label Sabbath, if you've heard 'The Wizard' cover on the Pride & Glory album it should give you a good estimate.
Currently love their pushback on anti empathy in the most punk way.
They have a song Sonder and Soapbox that are great when you are feeling like you are stuck with people who don't care.
Of all time, it would have to be Nirvana. No other band has impacted me as emotionally. Nevermind came out when I was 13 and it was the first CD I ever owned. I was deep in the teenage angst stage when In Utero landed, which was rather apt. Then I had a cassette I tapped off of MTV with unplugged on one side and Live and Loud on the other which I played all the time until he died. It was hard to listen toto after that, but then they released unplugged on CD which is still a favourite.
Of course there's countless other bands I love, bands that are way more technically proficient, bands that use electronics and stage craft. I've an eclectic taste and Nirvana are certainly more mainstream and successful than most of what I listen to these days, but if I could go back in time and watch any band live it would be them.
I've always liked U2, Coldplay and Genesis, but I also love Barenaked Ladies, The East Pointers, Great Big Sea. More recently, Bear's Den, Sons of the East, Amble, Kingfishr, and The Scratch. Just seen Amble last night and they're incredible live.
I'm mostly on the 20 meter band myself. There's an active packet community on 14.105 LSB.
I was just reading Contact by Carl Sagan. It's all about bands. Small world.
Wu-Tang is for the
childrenlemmings. They might not be anything to fuck with either.
The Roots (first four albums especially)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor / A Sliver Mt. Zion
Portishead, Massive Attack
Public Enemy
!!! INSANE CLOWN POSSE !!!

Fuckin magnets
To be fair, I have an Engineering degree and still don't know how magnets work.
Last time I saw a good juggalo joke was Juggalos for Mitt. And that was like 2008
I never heard any jokes from ICP. I only ever heard how to survive when everybody hates you.
System of a Down
I thought I had overcome my SOAD addiction but it came back a few hours ago
Aww, I still remember singing along to Radio/Video with my daughter when she was two.
She'll be graduating college in May. 💀
Parents with good music taste lead to kids graduating college B)
Congratulations for her achievement!
Thoughts on Scars on Broadway?
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard because they are carrying all of the genres
All them Witches and King Buffalo are no slouch either.
(King Gizzard has no right to be as amazing as they are at every single music genre.pick one.. It's insane how good they are.)
There is another band similar to kglw that is called doom gong that is local to the midwest of the united states which does some pretty cool stuff too
Opeth, although I don’t love their more recent drift away from death metal (dear god it’s been a decade now). I’ve really loved Cattle Decapitation’s newer stuff, too.
Oh and I second the guy declaring that Wu Tang is for the Children
I like you. You have the same taste as me.
Cattle has been on a streak the last decade or so. 4 or 5 albums that are all incredible.
My friend was my introduction to Opeth and also fell out of love with them around that time.
His new passion band is Castle Rat, he's absolutely convinced they are the next big thing.
He's also very excited about us going to see Owlbear in April.
Maybe you will like them too
Thanks, I’ll check them both out!
@Jarix @NOT_RICK Castle Rat is fantastic.
Ween
I was never as into Ween as some of my friends were, but The Mollusk is a masterpiece IMO.
It's kinda like Mr Bungle - California. If you can casually make an album of pop music that good, you have my eternal respect, even if I never fully get into the less approachable work.
The Mollusk is amazing. Not really explored any of their other work because I don't want to be disappointed that it doesn't live up to the brilliance of The Mollusk.
Imo most of their music sucks bigtime. Some people like it, idk what they see in it.
But yes, The Mollusk is a masterpiece.
It's all good. Seriously. All.
Try Pure Guava
Overall? Between the Buried and Me
By genre?
Black Metal - White Ward (Slavs Ukraini!), Ihsahn
Death - First Fragment, Ulcerate
Instrumental - Animals as Leaders, CHON
(Post-)Hardcore - The Fall of Troy
Progressive (that isn't BTBAM) - Protest the Hero, Ne Obliviscaris
Overall ... Misery Index
By Genre
Death Metal - Dying Fetus/Misery Index
Grindcore -Pig Destroyer/Rotten Sound/Napalm Death
Post - Storm of Light
Stoner/Desert -Lowrider/Kyuss/Dozer
Brant Bjork - that man is his own genre.
Did I do okay?
I can't wait for DeathFest this year!
A user of culture I see. I've not heard of Ne Obliviscaris, so I'll have to check them out
I'd start with either Citadel or Exul. PLEASE return with your assessment.
They Might Be Giants
Saw them recently in Glasgow. Absolutely fantastic.
You have inspired me. I am listening to Lincoln.
Their music is so wholesome.
No one in the world ever gets what they want
And that is beautiful
Everybody dies frustrated and sad
And that is beautiful
This is way too low
Dream Theater
Saw them last week. Omg, I wish it never ended.
King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard. Their live shows kick ass and they've got such amazing chemistry together. Love listening to them jam.
Dumbfounded dipshit, checking in!
Tool
evanescence. I've loved Amy since i was a teenager.
I wasn't too much of a fan till I saw them live (twice!) and they actually slay. Great band!
Probably Sungazer but Polyphia and Casiopea are close seconds
Sungazer is amazing! I need more Adam Neely in my life. High quality picks there.
I love Polyphia, so I'll have to check out Sungazer and Casiopea
If you’re looking for stuff similar to Polyphia specifically check out Ichika Nito and Marcin if you haven’t listened to either.
Oh yeah, those are both right up my alley, thank you!
Those are great. I especially like Marcin's flamenco stylings.
You might also enjoy AFØNK
jethro tull. Since I was small.
Scored Aqualung on vinyl for super cheap a bit ago and it sounds awesome. I love that album
It's hard to pick one between ELO, Jamiroquai, the Bee Gees and Linkin Park.
I was so sad to learn of Chester's passing. He was a trouble man. Very troubled :(
While Chester was one of kind - I really like Emily Armstrong. I saw them live a few months ago and she put on a SHOW. I got worried when the first few songs she was getting the crowd to sing most of the lyrics for the old Chester stuff, but then she let it rip for the second half and fucking tore the place down.
I saw them in Vancouver last year too.
I think she's perfect on the new music but her singing the old stuff just isn't there yet.
Which is fair, she will improve on that but I think she just needs more of her own music before she will get a fair response from the crowd. Which is just a matter of time so this isn't even a complaint
The Presidents Of The United States Of America.
Silly lyrics about bugs and serious rock. What's not to like?
Kitty at my foot and I want to touch it
King Crimson is the official answer.
But I put Tool, Meshuggah, Between the Buried and Me, and maybe Karnivool in second place.
Have you heard the stuff that Fripp and Eno did together? "Heavenly Music Corporation". It's heavy.
No. There's a whole lot of Fripp outside of KC that I really haven't even dipped my toes into. Maybe I will give this a listen.
Also, have you seen the movie Mandy? It has a lot of KC.
While yr at it check out Eno, if you haven't.
Did you get some wires crossed here? After looking it up HMC is electronic music by a guy named Kim Cascone. The group you seem to reference is simply Fripp & Eno.
I'm going to check out both anyway, so thanks!
Heavenly Music Corporation is the album.
Also No Pussyfooting
Coheed and Cambria
So many favourite bands. Soilwork, Dream Theatre, Decapitated, Fear Factory.
If I had to pick one, I'd have to pick The Clash.
Alestorm! It has everything, drunk pirates, silly pirates, horny pirates, bloodlusting pirates and pizza, for reasons I guess.
Chris bowes is a racist sex-offender though...
I know, but I don't dwelve in celebrities personal lifes. Otherwise I wouldn't have anything to listen to or any movies to watch. Money and fame makes most people assholes..
Daft Punk
Vulfpeck
Circa Survive.
E: Anthony Green has such an emotive voice, especially on Juturna and my personal favorite album On Letting Go.
Jethro Tull Iron Maiden Opeth Primus
Between those I cannot decide.
Nice to see a fellow Primus enjoyer once in a while.
No they don't!
Thank You Scientist! More rock bands need horns.
NOFX
The Tragically Hip.
Love
Of course it's kind of a situational thing, favorite band can be different depending in when it's asked but I think Love has been the one band I never take a break from listening to and never get tired of.
Talking Heads is a very close second, and then many many more close third.
I really want to start sharing music more, but I have to find good ways to share the playlists I make.
Favorite bands by studio albums? Depends on mood:
The Magnetic Fields / Stephin Merritt's other projects
Lifter Puller / Craig Finn's other projects
Nineteen Forty-Five / 3 Finger Cowboy / the members' other projects
100 gecs
Favorite band for live shows?
Favorite new artist?
Dark tranquility 🤘
Exodus.
Guess
ok, I’ll guess. is it Rolling Stones?
With a name like ok computer, I'd say Radio head
Never heard of em. I listened to two tracks, sounds like a Coldplay ripoff to be honest :S
Applause.gif
I thought you were serious at first.
Close, Kylie Minogue
Can't Get You Out Of My Head is a certified banger, and her collab with Nick Cave is awesome
Cocteau Twins.
Nice!
Cocteau Twins is the morning music at my house.
It's a four-way tie between David Byrne/Talking Heads, Oingo Boingo, Spin Doctors and Yello.
Edit: five way tie - add in Earth, Wind and Fire (pre 1981)
I read this exact comment 10 years ago
Make that 20 or maybe even 30. What can i say? I'm old. I still enjoy discovering new stuff though.
That's an impossible question.
The best live shows I ever saw in my life were Fela Kuti, Henry Rollins.
Right now I love Fontaines DC, Joshua Ray Walker, Leon Bridges as recording artists.
Favorite old album is Silk Degrees, but I wouldn't say I love Boz Scaggs, just that one album is so ridiculously good.
Favorite new album definitely Romance, Fontaines DC.
Best 'underrated' J Roddy Walston & the Business, their live shows and records were amazing.
Can't say I have a favorite band though.
The Offspring
Fit for an Autopsy.
For the past several years, I'd have to say The Bamboos. I love me some good funk.
Love me some funk as well, so I checked them out.
They're good. thanks for the recommendation. In return I recommend Tom MacGuire and the Brassholes.
I will check them out!
At the moment, Royal Blood
Typhoons is an amazing album.
Rotting Christ probably.
It's changed over time, but right now I'm digging Yorushika (Japan) and Lola Amour (Philippines).
When I was younger I might've said The Mars Volta or At the Drive-In.
Before that maybe Led Zeppelin
Linkin Park
Depends on the day, basically anything involving pat the bunny usually
Or daft punk or the arctic monkeys or beabadoobee. Like i said it changes.
Recently really enjoying cold dew
It's so hard to choose one but I'd say Blind Guardian. If you love fantasy novels then you'll enjoy their songs. They cover LOTR, WoT, SA, The Witcher, and so many more. They've had consistently good albums and are always refining their sound, they've even released a full progressive symphonic album based on the pulp novels of Solomon Kane.
Fugazi
It's probably Delain, they're fantastic
Asylum Street Spankers, Beastie Boys, Yoko Kano & Seatbelts, and from the “still performing” column, Alex Lahey. Though I guess she’s less a band and more a force of nature.
Imagine Dragons, for sure.
Coldplay is good too, Brunuhville, Lindsay Sterling, The FatRat. All great.
Rush. Love the 70s and 80s eras especially, but it's like having several favorite bands to choose from! If I'm in the mood for synths I'll put on Signals, or if I want something heavier I'll play the self-titled album. I literally never get sick of their songs though.

Everything Everything, but lately I've been listening to a lot of Wagon Christ. So good.
Dillinger Four
My current favorite band / musician is STOMACH BOOK. The main overarching theme she presents is trans pain manifested in anger and wrath. I love it, I'm not even trans.
I like ISM(Industrial, Scientific, Medical... Its a radio frequency band...)
I'm one of those horrible Cardiacs people, the ones that listen to Cardiacs
I certainly hope you caught the album release last year
It's changed from year to year and scene to scene and phase of life to phase of life. But Pink Floyd has always been up there.
Black Sabbath
Check this out...Zakk Wylde did a thing.
Zakk Sabbath
Seen it live, good times
Holy shit how was it‽ Is his voice that similar to Ozzy live?
I mean, it's great, but it's basically Black Label Sabbath, if you've heard 'The Wizard' cover on the Pride & Glory album it should give you a good estimate.
Changes a lot, but Stroke 9, Susto, Tiny Victories, Hollywood Undead all come up often.
ONE OK ROCK. Pop punk band from Japan, but their last few albums have been in English. They’re just a lot of fun.
Super Furry Animals.
Probably either steely dan or the replacements
My favorite band is that awesome trio from Toronto...
Triumph.
Slowly exits stage left.
The Wrecks
Currently love their pushback on anti empathy in the most punk way.
They have a song Sonder and Soapbox that are great when you are feeling like you are stuck with people who don't care.
They perform great live.
We saw them here, and yeah what a great live act!
Truly some amazing musicians, could complain about his mom dancing with his best friend to a song about depression and not miss a single note.
Nickelback.
Just kidding… NIN
Protest The Hero | The Aristocrats
Moron Police. I highly recommend their two later albums.
Of all time, it would have to be Nirvana. No other band has impacted me as emotionally. Nevermind came out when I was 13 and it was the first CD I ever owned. Muse.
I could listen to any song, any album, anytime.
Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9)
The Weeks or Against Me!
Insomnium
The Mars Volta
John Coltrane
Jpegmafia
Today Is The Day
GY!BE
I've always liked U2, Coldplay and Genesis, but I also love Barenaked Ladies, The East Pointers, Great Big Sea. More recently, Bear's Den, Sons of the East, Amble, Kingfishr, and The Scratch. Just seen Amble last night and they're incredible live.
Also enjoying KNEECAP, and Chasing Abbey.
Brian fucking Eno
Artist not band specifically: Chris Cornell
When I'm in a mood, Stars of the Lid
