I respect the few YouTube folks out there that write a blog post (on their own website!) for each video. The text based web has always been the ultimate reference.
While Youtube is not ideal, the web has been serving slop long before AI came around due to search engine optimization. No one trusts anything they find there and it also has the same issue with dancing around the topic.
Of course Youtube is now getting filled with AI crap as well so I don’t know where to go next…
But yes I agree that I prefer text based info. For me it’s especially annoying when I find recipes on Youtube and there is no accompanying website for it.
I can understand a subscription if it is directly related with the running cost of the service. But if it has no running cost for the manufacturer (e.g. you buy printer ink) it should not need a subscription to function.
Gatekeeping. Anyone who tells you that "that's not how it's done" or " we don't do it that way" or otherwise cramps your style just because they do it differently, or better, or with more expensive tools or materials, is an arse.
I have been put off so many hobbies because other people just have to suck the enjoyment out of it. Now that I am older and more sure of myself, I tend not to join the communities related to my hobbies because people are dicks; I just do what I enjoy, how I enjoy it.
See, as a welder turned machinist, I can confidently say that there ARE wrong ways to accomplish your goals, and I've tried most of them.
Your kind of thinking is exactly what happened to Stockton Rush and his passengers. It even started put as a hobby that this guy turned into a business, just doing what hey enjoyed, the way he enjoyed it.
Sometimes gatekeeping exists for a very, very good reason.
Ehh, there are right and wrong ways. Does your post make sense in response to "please do not reboot the server with RAID card by pulling out the power cable while it's running"?
This is the kind of thing that ruins ham radio for me, and I think a big part of why a lot of people who are interested in HF band stay on CB radio and work outlaw stations instead. The FCC mostly turns a blind eye to those who aren't causing interference, and you don't have to listen to angry 300 year old sad hams tell you all the silly things they believe you're doing wrong.

Flex radio operator. The only radio.... They have to justify all the money that they spent on that flex radio. So all you hear is that is the only radio that's capable of working in the modern world.
Meanwhile, I'm over here with an SDR and a laptop just ruthlessly dunking on their complete inability to implement even basic DSP. HAM in general is just the epitome of dunning kruger. These guys think they are hot shit and don't even know the depth of their own ignorance.
This is a big one for me too. Usually in professional context. As long as the task is completed correctly at the end, please don't tell me how other people have done it halfway through. It's just going to throw me off and slow me down.
It annoys me when people don't at least try to explain the advantages of language features. Like, there are some real advantages to writing "pythonic" Python, but if someone doesn't know then it's better to tell them why this other way rocks and is fucking cool and also happens to be considered best practice.

I played Pokemon Unbound, a widely-lauded ROM hack, the other week. Got to the first gym, a grass type one. Lo and behold, the gym leader is named Mirskle and he keeps it "foggy" inside his gym from "incense." He speaks like a total stoner and looks like this:
Got bombarded by an obnoxious number of weed jokes. Sorry, I just can't.
I wish films could have gay characters without people considering it "political". The only reason the existence of gay people is "political" is because someone thinks they shouldn't have rights. Gay relationships in film should just be a normal, unremarkable, thing the same as heterosexual romance
People who keep calling someone's name who is unresponsive (either unconscious or walking away). You've said their name six times now. They either need car, or you need to say something different.
Problems that could have been easily solved by communication, but the characters did something like: "I can explain!" Instead of just explaining.
"I need to tell you something extremely important, it will only take 3 sentences to cover the gist of it. However, instead of leaving it on this voicemail to ensure you'll get it, I'll instead tell you to ring me back at which point I will die/be killed"
Remaking a movie or retelling a story or changing a political event or casting an unbelievable caste just because it fits today's politically correct views.
This thing happened so stop pretending it didn't or your historical piece is now fantasy or now it's completely unbelievable.
Stop remaking movies and changing the tone or message. Here's a novel idea for you film makers, you can make a new movie with a similar plot but with a different name, now we won't be going in with raised expectations.
Right?! Like if youre going for historical use the context! So much historical plots make no sense if you assume they had social safety nets, clean water, workers rights, access to global markets, concept of universal human rights, on demand light and heating, largely managed forests, and don't get me started on language barriers!
Profanity. I was brought up in a household where discussion was encouraged. Profanity was seen as the inability to form good arguments. I guess it was ingrained in me.
Same here. I personally can't stand Bill Burr, regardless of how many of my friends tell me he's funny. With an f-word in nearly every sentence, I can't listen to him for more than a minute.
How about people who complain about every single thing. Movie trailer doesn't give much information? "Well, how can I know if I wanna see it if I don't know anything about it?" Movie trailer gives a lot of information? "What's the point in seeing it now that the trailer gave away the whole plot?"
Are you suggesting that drunks and weed smokers are responsible for 24/7 convenience stores shutting down or something, or just that they're annoying to be around?
YouTube in general taking over all answers on the web. I'd much rather just read the answer than have to go through a 10 min video.
But on that topic...
I respect the few YouTube folks out there that write a blog post (on their own website!) for each video. The text based web has always been the ultimate reference.
"Wait for it . . . "
No.
"Wait till the end" tells me to open the progress bar and jump straight to the end
This. So happy it's not just me xD
Stay tuned for part 2.

microtransactions.
not to be confused with micro trans actions, like nail painting. those are great
I can get behind "Pay $X to remove ads" or "Pay $Y to unlock the full app."
I even understand subscriptions for some things.
Just about everything else is avoided at
allno costs.I can understand a subscription if it is directly related with the running cost of the service. But if it has no running cost for the manufacturer (e.g. you buy printer ink) it should not need a subscription to function.
I’ve spent so much money on nail polish since I started transitioning. It’s more of a macro transaction really.
Same here, never made one o those micro transactions and i don't plan to.

To be fair, those things ruin it for everyone.

Chesterton's Fence applies to some gatekeeping. Not all, but for life-safety thegatekeeping tends to be for sadly good reason.
Ehh, there are right and wrong ways. Does your post make sense in response to "please do not reboot the server with RAID card by pulling out the power cable while it's running"?
See! There's always someone who just has to suck the fun out of it. Now I'm commenting wrong.

This is why I could never enjoy Python.
"That's not pythonic"
should just reply "it is now :)" to asses who say something like that
It annoys me when people don't at least try to explain the advantages of language features. Like, there are some real advantages to writing "pythonic" Python, but if someone doesn't know then it's better to tell them why this other way rocks and is fucking cool and also happens to be considered best practice.
Also, sometimes you just have to do things in a non-pythonic way. PEP 8 literally says that a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, which the pythonic nuts should hold as gospel.

lol, this is awesome.
Just beat that gym yesterday and I enjoyed it, to each their own
Politics inserted into places and times nobody was talking about it.
Or people ascribing a political or ideological context to something that doesn't really have anything to do with it.
"This movie is too political correct" Just because Finn was black.
"This anime isn't feminist enough"
"Rimworld is sexist"
True, that's the other side of it. It's like I'm literally not allowed to take a break. I have to stay outraged and screaming 24x7.

In fiction:
People who keep calling someone's name who is unresponsive (either unconscious or walking away). You've said their name six times now. They either need car, or you need to say something different.
Problems that could have been easily solved by communication, but the characters did something like: "I can explain!" Instead of just explaining.
"I need to tell you something extremely important, it will only take 3 sentences to cover the gist of it. However, instead of leaving it on this voicemail to ensure you'll get it, I'll instead tell you to ring me back at which point I will die/be killed"
Most fiction wouldn't exist if people properly communicated in it.
Especially sitcoms. Especially Three's Company.

Pretty vague question
How about people who complain about every single thing. Movie trailer doesn't give much information? "Well, how can I know if I wanna see it if I don't know anything about it?" Movie trailer gives a lot of information? "What's the point in seeing it now that the trailer gave away the whole plot?"

Are you suggesting that drunks and weed smokers are responsible for 24/7 convenience stores shutting down or something, or just that they're annoying to be around?
Drunks and stoners make up a ton of the after hours sales, though. They would be helping keep it open 24/7.
The reason a store stops operating overnight is if there's not enough income to cover operating costs.
