If you don't like this meme, dont comment your hated for it, I have another one in here just for you

::: spoiler >Click Here!<

((if people start crying about an absurdist trend which harms nobody in the comments I'm going to lose it. It's children having fun.
The world is tough enough for children already, let them have some stupid memes. Don't criticize the young generation just for liking stuff you dont. Don't be like every other generation in history and let kids be kids. Let them have their fun. If you 67 back at them they will find you to be the coolest old dude in the planet. Either laugh at dumbass 67 memes and enjoy life, or scroll past and let people enjoy life for themselves without ruining it for them.))

If I’m aware of a trend, that means it became “cringe” and was “yeeted” by the kids who invented it at least 3 months ago

What’ll be really sad is when, 5 years from now, you’ll hear some kid ask if anyone remembers how they used to say 67 back in the good ol’ days

its funny to see millennials and older gen z making fun of younger gen z and gen alpha for their brainrot

…as if the nyan cat, rage comics, and vine clips weren’t pretty much the same thing lol

Mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom

I don't make fun of gen alpha for 67, but we have to admit that the meme is a random nonsense. Nyan cat, rage comics and vine clips do have a point which makes them funny, but shouting 67 while doing so without any purpose simply because it's a meme is inherently pointless. Let the kids have fun with 67 but it is just so random.

9

Fuck, yeah, I forgot about deep philosophical lore of nyan cat, the profound lore of it, the deep meaning.

They weren't.

6-7 is literally not meant to have meaning. It's meaning is that it doesn't have meaning. That's the joke.

2

So what meaning did Nyan cat have? Or rick rolling, or badger badger badger, or most anything that you would have seen on ytmd...

4

Rick Rolling the meaning is pranking someone.

Badger Badger Badger it's the humor of the song and animation, and the unexpectedness of the mushroom, plus some absurdism of course.

Nyan Cat is the closest, in that it's just absurdist, but also it had a catchy song and was art.

6-7 is pure absurdism. There isn't a meaning to it, and it's lack of meaning is the joke. It's meaningless is so absolute that the brain defaults to base pattern recognition to give it any semblance of meaning.

And I'm not saying that's bad. I'm just stating that it's literally a meaningless joke. Some may ascribe it's rise to prevalence as part of modernized brain rot culture, itself an extremist version of absurdist humor that began to rise in the 80s with Gen X and exploded with millennial, but evolved through very compressed short form content.

To me, I think it's maybe a prelude to an increase in dark humor again (and indeed we saw a rise for a moment in which 6-7 was given a dark twist with the mixing of SCP fiction with it's focus on voidness, emphasizing the insanity of the meaninglessness of the meme, but also the emptiness of everything) similar to millennials, since I think Gen Alpha already sees how bad the situation is for their generation even at a young age and will eventually perhaps evolve to a mixture of dark nihilistic violent humor; the meaningless of 6-7 it's expression of nihilism in a humorous way.

But that's just a theory. A meme theory.

68 is when she goes down on you, and you owe her one.

(I think that was from some 90s movie I can’t remember.)

sopuli.xyz

The kids are dumb, at least 69 is a sex thing which automatically makes it funnier.

We had 9+10=21 so I do not think we have a high horse to sit on

2

I like the meme, but did we really need a dissertation about it?

From the times when I was younger...

68 is you do me and I owe you one. 71 was 69 with 2 fingers in the ass. I guess 70 would just be training...

It's new funny number. Why it's funny? No one knows or it's funny because the kids decided that it is.

9
sh.itjust.works

The fact it has no meaning is why they find it funny. That's basically it. Makes us oldies think we're missing some context, but there is no context.

11
Karjalanreply
lemmy.world

There is context, but the kids parroting it don't know our understand it.

Basically it's part of a line from a philly rap song that someone misinterpreted, said it in a funny way, went viral, and now everyone is copying the viral vid/kid.

It's a meaningless meme - if you remember the early days of "yeet" it's lot like that. People started sticking the number around as an in-joke, but it's gone super mainstream and now it's just a goofy thing to do.

3

It does now, yes. Early days of yeet did not have a definition - "that's one Yeety Boi" as an example phrase. It was just a word you'd substitute in place of any other word for meme reasons. Eventually society settled on Yeet/Yote as meaning "to throw emphatically", which is nice (and was possibly the original meaning? There was this whole cyclical aspect to it that was very interesting).

2

My kid is in kintergarten and came home with a bunch of shit about counting to 67 and writing 67 on a makeshift turkey hat (it was right before Thanksgiving). I asked my wife and she can't explain it. I don't know.

lemmy.world

I heard a bunch of kids yelling 67 in a supermarket the other day. I felt my IQ drop by several points just witnessing that.

An occasional acknowledgement of 69 is still nice though.

10

I took my kids to a tree lighting on Saturday. Small townie event near my MILs, like 30 miles from us. Affluent town. Main St. The whole thing felt like the climactic scene of a Hallmark movie. Fr.

My oldest took it upon himself to start dancing in a clearing yelling out "6 7".

To this, a bunch of other kids joined in and started dancing and doing the meme as well.

Idk where I'm going with this story. Anyway, Is it easier to make friends as a kid, or is it just because they are less inhibited?

10

somebody yelled at my 13 year old brother saying 67 at the airport

i don't get it, what's wrong with 67 :S

6

It's a meme of a meme of a meme that the kids love. It's a meme of a YouTuber quoting a rap song about a guy playing like he's 6'7". It literally means nothing other than two numbers with the hand motion to be silly.

It's a recent kid meme

South park did an episode that featured it a few weeks ago

Consider yourself extremely lucky. Some of us have to deal with that shit on a daily basis.

I asked that question a few weeks ago. My understanding is either it's claiming two things are equal when they are not (something like "BMW... Family Toyota van... And pretending to weigh them in your hands) or comparing two things that are equal but self depreciation humor that you're bad at math(like the old six on one hand half a dozen in the other but with self depreciation thrown in)

Where is the innocence the days? Back in my days, we used to shout "Skeet Skeet" on national TV before grown-ups figured out what it was.

4

Before that we even had "the thong song"... Still trying to figure out what "she got dumps like a truck" is supposed to mean.

Actually music from the late 90s, early 2000s was filthy... What's your fantasy... Push it... It wasn't me... Back that ass up... Slow motion for me...

2

Exactly.

It means nothing. It's a throwaway phrase meant for people to repeat and find in things that have the number, but it means nothing beyond that. It's part of internet brainrot culture, essentially.

9
lemmy.ml

It's two numbers that can multiply together to make 42.

Other than that, it has no meaning.

5

It’s so muddy it’s pretty much lost meaning. It’s like saying “69, duuuuude!” to anything as an accent rather than actually meaning “69”. It’s got roots in Basketball, a “6-7 meme kid” and who knows what else.

1

Why was 6 afraid of 7? ...
