Played my first game of 11th last night

I'm really digging it so far. The changes to mission structure made for an exciting game where we were working toward very different objectives but still butting up against each other. My buddy's Dark Angels got an early lead and looked like he was going to walk away with it for a while, but he eventually just ran out of stuff and I was able to pull a win in the fifth turn.

What's the best way to (start) learning a language?

I traveled to Japan for a few weeks last year and had grand plans to learn a bunch of phrases, but got lazy and punked out. I still had a great time, everyone was super kind, but it was embarrassing how well so many folks spoke English and I couldn’t even be assed to put in a bit of work.

My wife is half Mexican and we’re in California, and she gets a lot of people initially talking to her in Spanish, which she can’t speak beyond an ordering food level, and would like to change that.

What’s the best way for us both to get to a beginning conversational level in Spanish? I tried Duolingo a while ago and it was eh, and I’ve heard it’s all AI these days. Any other recommendations?

Probably the slowest year for board games I've had since I started tracking

2025 was a real kick in the butt so I just didn't have as much time for games, plus I've been playing more 40k in general which I always waffle on if I should include in here or not.

My group's made some good progress on Frosthaven and we're hoping to actually complete it next year, and another group and I finished Clank 2 (and also finished Clank Legacy 1 finally! But it doesn't show on here because my wife and I had a single game left, but the couple we play with moved so it took over a year to get that last game in).

We also went to Japan this year, which ruled, and Let's Go To Japan has been a blast to play post that trip.

What have you all been playing this year???

Made some club memberships for my niece

My seven year old niece and her friends all decided their group hangs are officially now the 'Cherry Mochi Club' and all future hangs are club business, so I made these membership cards and will be giving them to her at Christmas to hand out to her friends. Took a lot longer than I had anticipated to create but learned some cool new things in Tinkercad while creating them.

Had our first game in over a year yesterday

Finally able to carve out time for six of us to meet up (half of us ended up having to take a day off work because weekends are so packed these days).

The new Thunder’s Edge adds a ton of great stuff and the new races are weird and fun! A couple of buddies and I coordinated 3d printing a whole raised map and it was really handy for getting a bit more table space plus elevating (heh) the playing feel.

Last Bastion ended up getting a round five action victory after pulling off a two point objective with Imperial and then surprise having two action phase Secret Objectives to get the last two points. Great game, hoping we can make it a quarterly thing going forward.

Can corn be transplanted?

Happy Saturday all! I’m growing corn for the second year in my little raised bed and I’m trying it from seed this time. It’s mostly gone well and some of them are to the point I should cull them down to one sprout a spot, but I was wondering if it would be feasible to transplant the second highest stalk on each to fill in spots none of them sprouted from. If so, any tips on the process?
