I hate this argument every time I see it. It could be used to justify so many terrible prejudices that we’ve been trying to get rid of for decades. I got robbed by a black man once so should I now treat all black men as potential criminals?

When we were watching it on BBC there was clearly something going on, but everything you heard was cheers. There were patches when it was very quiet and it just sounded different. When it ended Graham Norton said “I don’t know what you’re hearing at home but the reaction in the hall is very mixed”.

They don’t need to court developers, they need to court consumers. The games will be sold wherever people are buying.

I think many people on here, me included, would rather be using Reddit simply because of all the content.

Most of them seemed to be giving it a fair go but Linus himself seemed to be treating it more like a Cheap Car Challenge from Top Gear. He was cracking (bad) jokes about “just Linux things” before he’d even started and he gave up pretty much straight away. The problems he was having with Discord seemed more like Discord issues than Linux issues.

I game on Linux without issue. Literally 95% of games just work without issue. Deathloop never ran well and Routine (a UE game) for some reason kept want to install and uninstall a package each time I ran it (but it played fine). I don’t think I’ve found another game that doesn’t play and I recently bought ARC Raiders.

It took me ages to realise this. People with ADHD are always portrayed as lazy but they don’t struggle with hard work, they struggle with boring work. Before I knew I had ADHD I always found I was getting in trouble for not finishing boring work so I always used to prioritise tasks by how much fun they were and start with the most boring. I just ended up getting nothing done.

At the bottom of the article it cites that they have the right to refund if they can’t repair or replace, but since they’ve shown plenty of stock in their own store they can replace. He also cites their own policy which reads “refund the then current market value of the Product”.

This whole argument is stupid. If a cis man is willing to abuse a woman then a “No boys allowed” sign on the door isn’t going to stop them.

These kinds of places can look idyllic until it’s 5:30pm on a Friday and the only place to get a drink closed half an hour and the streets are all empty. Then they start to feel pretty boring.

Let’s not cherrypick scenarios to try and pretend Linux is easier than Windows. Most normal people are nervous interacting with a GUI pop-up that gives them two options, never mind putting them into a terminal window where they could seriously fuck up their machine. What about clicking the download link on a webpage, clicking next a few times and having them software on your machine, compared to having to build something from GitHub (how many people here have never had to do that?).

I knew a guy who did this and had to fly to Germany to fix it because he didn’t want to admit what he’d done.

I will play devil’s advocate and note that when you own a home you are responsible for all the costs of the house, not just the mortgage. I’ll see myself out.

$400,000 isn’t even that much for a company like this, it might’ve cost that much just trying to fight this.

I hate Windows for all the monetisation and privacy issues but I never really had problems with it killing my computer.

As far as I’m concerned people like this are worse than Osama Bin Laden, so if you were dunking on him dying then why should this be any different? Because what he did was legal? At least Bin Laden had an ideology; he thought he was the goodie, no matter how fucked up that was. This guy profited from people’s death and suffering.
