Is Paramount zeroing in on Texas amid California legal battle?
I'm not sure I agree this is an awful location if you're going to make a big studio campus. It's not in Austin atm but it will be eventually (it's currently surrounded) and 290/183 are useful veins. You say "outside Manor" like it's also not ~10 miles from the capitol and downtown. In LA terms that's basically nothing.
That said, as an eastsider, yeah fuck the billionaires generally and the Ellisons specifically.

Gran Turismo 7 for me.

Haha, me too. I watch a streamer, Vulrhund, fight ten thousand zombies and end up in a powered bachelor pad that he built, plastered, painted and furnished over the course of an in game year...
Meanwhile I have like 500 hours and my last death was eating lethal mushrooms I foraged on day three. My best run ever was maybe 2.5 months. I'm not sure I've ever actually lived long enough to harvest any crops I planted.

if you google Chicxulub (the dinosaur killing space rock) a meteor will fly across your screen
Not to be too much of a downer, but all of these cute Google search results and other "quirky" "fun" things billion dollar corporations do used to seem so harmless but now it just reads like a friendly logo on a baby mulching machine.

Weird Al Yankovic Pulled Out of ai Ad Despite Offer to Make a ‘Nice Pile of Money’: ‘I Can’t Be the Poster Boy for ai’
Weird Al is a national treasure, an institution. I'd bet it's his sort of music, parody, that AI threatens most simply because it's riffing on songs that already exist.
On the other hand, the only reason I'd worry that a gen-AI could attempt a masterpiece like "Alternative Polka" is that Weird Al created it first.

This made me laugh. This is the same shit we've been doing for 100 years. "Illegal orders" aren't a thing when you use your imperial military to do imperialism. The last time we had a President that wasn't a war criminal was never.

Games run faster on SteamOS than Windows 11, Ars testing finds
Reply in thread
Proton is amazing, but it's entirely overhead translating library/system calls to Linux. It's accurate to say they run better on SteamOS, not to say Proton is making it run better.
Now maybe Proton makes them run better than a janky but native Linux port, but that's a separate statement about games being better optimized on Windows.

Is the FDA good or bad?
Ideally the FDA should not be swayed by business interests, but everything controlled by our government is. That said, you want the FDA to exist and protect us from bullshit snake oil products and keep corporations from lacing our food with cheap poisons and carcinogens.
Trump gutting the organization makes it go from "could do better" to "actively subverting its own purpose."

Preference
Wayland is a sports car - modern, tailor made for performance. X is like a '99 Civic that's had the seatbelts stripped out and the airbags replaced with cameras that let all the other cars on the road see you naked.
It's fine to prefer X, but the older it gets the more people are going to roll their eyes at you. XWayland is fine for random old stuff, but there is zero reason X should be running your whole display these days.
Inb4 someone mentions network transparency that gimps the rest of the system or some 5000 year old app that needs to sniff events sent to every other program.

On a related note, not having to know literally everything a public person has done before feeling safe to express even the most basic support for their work.
I appreciate the accountability, I don't want to support bad people, but back in the day it was like "I enjoyed that album" and then you went back to living your life. Lack of information made separating the art from the artist the default and it made enjoying new stuff take so much less effort.

I'd vote for AOC a thousand times harder than for Newsom. I'm not sure she actually wants the position though, she's potentially got a long career as a rep (or senator) in front of her and could probably turn into a Presidential candidate in any cycle, but having a major legislative win is bigger than that, according to her

Valve made the right decision
In a world where Valve controls 90% of what is running on a device with immutable / containerized images, yeah I think Arch makes a lot more sense. A distro focused on rolling release is a lot less likely to hang you up when you choose to update.
Debian is great, but depending on where you are in the release cycle it can be a pain in the ass to stay up to date and, frankly, the last time I ran it, shit like apt/dpkg configuration and so many /etc files and structures just felt like mis-features or too complex for their own good.
