Workers of lemmy, what was the reason that customer got banned ?

I worked at a headshop in the late 80's amd early 90's.

We sold nitrous oxide for whipped cream (and to inhale). It's a very short lived high...mebbe a couple of minutes for the average person. It came in 24 packs of nitrous cylinders for about $50 US.

There was a guy who would come in when we opened at 10 AM and buy a case (144 cylinders) for personal use, and be back in the store before 6 PM to buy another case. Eventually over a few weeks he was buying multiple cases every time. His lips started cracking and bleeding from the cold, and then turning blue. We found out he was going to our other stores in the area and finally banned him.

We had people buy crack pipes and other smoking paraphernalia too, but that one haunted me. I had never seen someone fall that hard into addiction, or that fast. He was obviously miserable and could not stop.

That time of year people

most things that I acquire are pretty specific like tools or books or musical instruments, socks and underwear, etc, and I came to select those things through trial and error. I still appreciate gifts, but...

my ex bought me two things I wouldn't have bought for myself but absolutely loved: the red book - a red leather bound copy of the lord of the rings in one volume and a hello kitty fender strat. then my (adult) children got together and bought me a t-shirt that is a portrait of Anthony Bourdain using sort of ascii art of the first chapter of kitchen confidential. I struggle with depression and it was like an acknowledgement of that and them telling me they loved me.

goddammit I'm crying.

if I could receive one gift I'd pick for myself, it would be more time with them.

Farmer says 'we're in a very dire situation' ahead of harvest—with zero soybean orders from China, historically the largest buyer | Fortune

I had to pipe in this old post from August 6th 2019

"Chinese companies have stopped buying U.S. agricultural products, China's Commerce Ministry said on Tuesday, a blow to U.S. farmers who have already seen their exports slashed by the more than year-old trade war.

American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall called the announcement from China "a body blow to thousands of farmers and ranchers who are already struggling to get by."

China imported $9.1 billion of U.S. farm produce in 2018 - mainly soybeans Sc1, dairy, sorghum and pork LHc1 - down from $19.5 billion in 2017, according to the American Farm Bureau.

Your Dumbfuck-In-Chief, folks. I'm sure someone has a clever retort involving emails, or pocahontas, or shithole countries."

We don’t memorize phone numbers anymore, we rely on GPS to tell us where to go and Facebook reminds us of birthdays. What else will we stop remembering once AI remembers everything for us?

Who's we?

I still remember the fucking IP address of the main local (member of a three way cluster) data server for a bank that folded over 15 years ago.

2102231063 (used to be area code 512) was the back/kitchen phone of the firehouse my dad worked at. He retired in '93 and died in 2011.

And I almost never need directions to a place I've been once.

I don't forget faces but fuck do I forget names even when I repeat them or use other memory techniques.

I might be neurologically a little divergent, but I don't know, and make no assumptions.
