Ever read Transmetropolitan? It has a whole sub-arc on just the absolute lack of concern that a future society would have for this resurrection obligation/burden imposed on them.

What is your favorite version of FTL in science fiction?

I wouldn't say it was my favourite FTL but it has some interesting implications.

The artificial wormholes of The Algebraist by Ian Banks. I can't say too much if you haven't already read it, but it's artificial wormholes that have to be transported sublight.

All the new wormholes are of course lovely and high capacity, but much of the network is still the original tiny little ones first installed. So your military at least uses kilometer long needle ships that can fit through these small points.

Think fitting an aircraft carrier through a Stargate.

Running a business using linux

When you say it doesn't work in Firefox, does it not work in Firefox or does it say it doesn't work in Firefox? In the later case and sometimes in both, I have found that just changing the user agent string to something chrome based is sufficient to get it working again.

If money was not an issue, is there a movie, series, or a video game you would fund as a passion project with no intention on making a profit on it?

TV limited series adaptations of The Culture novels. Amazon obviously made a start before giving up but they picked absolutely the wrong one to start with.
Yes Consider Phlebus is the first chronologically but a TV series where you have to replace the main character every episode does not work when you are already trying to adapt a very difficult IP. Player of Games is where you want to begin. Clear storyline, no tricky time/universe/world jumps. Spends most of the time in an Earth-esque civilization. If you can successfully adapt PoG then you can try something more challenging like Phlebus or Use of Weapons.

Ditto.

  1. Install OS, timeshift.
  2. Get Nvidia, CUDA and CuDnn all playing together, timeshift.
  3. Install everything else safe in the knowledge that no matter how badly I break things at least I won't have to do step 2 again.

The false promises of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving

Depends on your definition for autonomous driving which mainly depends on your ODD but they're not the only ones. Honda ,Volvo and GM have something. Others (i.e. BMW) have stuff next year but they're all going with more accurate names. CoPilot, PilotAssist, Super cruise, Traffic Jam Pilot. Makes it clear that these are drive assists, not drive replace.

They seemed normal in class, very keen.
Then it's dissertation time and they want to build levitating islands to solve global warming and getting into my office when I'm not there to leave weird notes on my monitor complaining that the department isn't responding to their 'funding proposal' emails.
