'Dixie' by Harmonium, a Quebec based band started in the 70s
Great band for prog lovers. First time I hear them was when a teacher in middle school busted out his guitar and sang Pour un instant in history class for no reason at all.

Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?
Playing some arcade-inspired modern-retro stuff and enjoying it. Not sure which I like the most of my pickups, but as a recommendation Freddy Farmer has an OK amount of content and challenge for a game I paid €2 for.

Sonic turns 35 today—what does this franchise mean to you?
Sonic is cool, but I have been awful at Sonic games for all of those 35 years.

I haven't seen one yet. Maybe they don't use them in every part of France?

Weekly open thread for 20 June 2026
Had a birthday this week. Went for quanitity as a gift to myself to show my son that I could get 4 games for under €10 (he keeps asking me to buy Minecoins in Minecraft). I am now the happy owner of a few retro-styled games (Freddy Farmer, Donut Dodo, Galacticon, and Silver Bullet). As expected, I'm quite mediocre at all of them, but shmup skills help out a lot with two of them.
I forgot about Shmup Slam, but seeing as how it will be rather hot today I have a good excuse to sit and do nothing except watch a stream.

Leak confirms GrapheneOS & Motorola partnership for non-Pixel hardware
This site is a (possibly AI) content mill. The sources are all circular.
It probably isn't Motorola.
Edited, see comment for clarifications...
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47053243
GrapheneOS was contacted by one of the largest Android OEMs in June 2025 and we're actively working with them. They're going to be announcing our partnership in March 2026 and the phones meeting our requirements with official GrapheneOS support are scheduled for 2027.
Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, and Vivo are all larger OEMs than Motorola.

i'm fucking devastated but there are no exception
When I first moved to France, I was surprised by how much English-language rock/pop music was on the radio. I was also suprised that sometimes christian rock would be played between something like Nirvana's Rape Me and Bloodhound Gang's The Bad Touch. I mentioned it to my colleagues and they were like, "wtf is Christian rock?"

Of course they do
I'd like an example of a site that does this. Name and shame. It might be the choice of the developer, too.

How France’s Mistral Built A $14 Billion AI Empire By Not Being American
The Mistral team is just as sketchy as the other AI folks, they're former Google and Meta employees. I want to believe they won't be like Altman or Amodei. But they are following the same playbook: in debt to investors, making promises (saying their data centre will find cures to diabetes and cancer), pirating books, and lobbying the gov't to pay a one-time penalty to avoid future litigation in plagiarism cases...
Still, fingers crossed!

Macron urges calm after far-right activist fatally beaten
aligned with the far-right
They didn't release the victim's name initially.
Why?
Because he was more than aligned. He marched with the groups. He did the salutes. He was at the front of the parades carrying flags. He was a known neo-nazi.
I'm against violence. Stating facts is not condoning violence. Quentin was not an innocent choir boy, he was not ambushed in the manner that was originally reported, he was not left for dead; he refused to go to hospital after the fight and didn't call the emergency services until some time later.

What did "Tylenol" do to make Trump so angry at it?
Part of it is RFK Jr. and MAHA who are on a mission to "cure" autism because the whole anti-vax thing doesn't fly (due to common knowledge and, you know, science).
So it looks like they are blaming the most common medication used by pregnant people.
