Which distro would you want to see more software developed for? Ubuntu Touch, Droidian, or PostMarketOS?

Ubuntu Touch is the easiest to just get a working phone with, because it uses the Android kernel that ships with the device, but I absolutely like the flexibility in desktop environment, and availability of flatpak apps on postmarketOS. I honestly can't wait until I can switch full-time to postmarketos.

I would much rather have more software developed for postmarketos

Why the fuck do people post photos of text instead of just text?

I had an idea to mess with Facebook feeds to see if you could get people fed up enough they would stop using the platform as much.

Convince everyone you know to screenshot and share every ad the Facebook platform puts in your feed, and encourage others to do the same. So others people's feeds just start to become real ads, mixed with screenshots of ads, shared by your network of social connections, then everyone would start complaining the platform is just ads, and hopefully stop using it as much. Who knows if it would work, but I got a good laugh from it.

“This is what I voted for?”: Trump supporter loses farm and income to tariffs, only to be mocked online

Reply in thread

Its so hard for these people to understand that when you spew hate at others, whether through your actions, your words, or through your ballot, that people have less empathy for your than other people that might experience similar hardships and haven't been spewing hate.

The whole comparison of "you laughed at Charlie thing, and now we're laughing at ice killing" is so hard for these people to understand why most sane people view these deaths differently.

Person C spent his entire life spewing hate and saying some crazy shit that puts other people down, or in danger with his gun laws thinking, etc.

Person R was just a normal person, not spewing hate as a career.

Cue the shocked Pikachu face when they realize I care more about person R, than person C.

Similarly, if this person voted for Trump and lost his farm, I'm gonna have a lot less sympathy for him, than someone who voted against Trump, and lost his farm.

Veronica Explains why she doesn't stream (from Netflix etc) #algorithmic_helplessness_sucks

The thing I hated about Netflix was the stress of knowing i was being watched with my viewing habits and that affected how they decided to cancel or continue shows.

Imagine being a customer at a restaurant and the chef is in the back watching you eat, saying things like:

"well, if he doesn't eat the whole thing in less than 10 minutes that means he probably hated it and won't continue to buy more burgers, so we should just remove it from the menu now and never serve that burger again."

Who the fuck wants to 'relax' and watch stuff when i know if I start watching something and stop after episode 1 because I liked it, realize my partner might also like it, and I wait 3 months to watch it together (not within their 30 day or whatever window), knowing that might contribute to Netflix canceling a show that I fucking liked in the first place!

SO RELAXING GUYS!

So no, I don't stream stuff anymore. I'm sick of paying for content that constantly gets canceled, and also experiencing stress while doing so.

Don't tread on me

I think people are feeling like this because the awful people that enable and drag the rest of society into these messes, never learn. Sure once shit hits the fan and it affects them deeply they'll be complaining and calling for heads to roll, but the second the rest of society fixes the messes they created, the second they get a comfortable life again, they return with the same attitudes that lead down the dark path to begin with. They just don't learn. Only changing their views when it affects them personally and then immediately flipping back when life is good again.

Louis Rossmann is suing Samsung after firm offers $330 refund for defective SSD while selling the drives on Amazon for $949 — spat over 4TB 990 Pro SSD is headed to court

Reply in thread

Agreeing with you here, they probably had the last line there to save themselves money, as historically tech items lose value over time, so if you bought an ssd for $200, and 6 months later needed to be replaced or refunded, historically they can realistically offer you $150, as that would traditionally be the new market value after 6 months, but in today's timeline, now its apparently worth $900 and they probably don't want to pay that.

Samsung hurt itself in confusion

Hegseth reportedly ousted admiral who expressed concerns about legality of boat bombings

Reply in thread

I'm not sure it favors some of us, as it's a sign all of us collectively have gotten waaay too comfortable letting pieces of shit off the hook for their behavior. If we ever make it out of this I think we need to swing pretty hard the other direction on 'tolerating' people being total fucking assholes to everyone else in their career, in politics, in public. Call that shit out, shun them, make them understand freedom of speech does not allow you to literally spew hate speech, threaten people, and generally be a corrupt asshole. None of anyone's behavior in the GOP since basically 2016, is okay. Obviously this has been going far longer, but 2016 election is when it went full gloves off.

Trump Admin Tells Judge It’ll Disburse Half of SNAP Benefits for Eligible Households in November, With ‘Significant’ Delays

Reply in thread

And then said "I'll do that half when I get around to it, because fuck you, that's why." ie. "Significant delays" of snap benefits they are half funding.

I also really hope people don't take the obvious race bait of this, why are they saying they're only funding half? Because they went people fighting over who gets it, and how are people going to start blaming each other? Oh right, color of skin.

"Why did the brown person in the line in front of me at the grocery store get snap benefits and I didn't!!!!"

‘I love Hitler’: Leaked messages expose Young Republicans’ racist chat

Stole this description from the other post about this.

Thousands of private messages reveal young GOP leaders joking about gas chambers, slavery and rape.

Leaders of Young Republican groups throughout the country worried what would happen if their Telegram chat ever got leaked, but they kept typing anyway.

They referred to Black people as monkeys and “the watermelon people” and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies and driving them to suicide and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

William Hendrix, the Kansas Young Republicans’ vice chair, used the words “n--ga” and “n--guh,” variations of a racial slur, more than a dozen times in the chat. Bobby Walker, the vice chair of the New York State Young Republicans at the time, referred to rape as “epic.” Peter Giunta, who at the time was chair of the same organization, wrote in a message sent in June that “everyone that votes no is going to the gas chamber.”

After not having a great time towards the end of highschool, I ended up spending most of my free time.between classes, in classes, and lunch, etc with the punk kids and the potheads. And they were some of the nicest and coolest fucking kids I've ever met. Super glad I had that experience because it definitely broke that propaganda fueled view I had of those two groups, for when i entered adulthood.

Birdtray on Debian is extremely self-deprecating...

Sounds like a developer who's pissed they had to make this hack in the first place, not proud of it, and not the way they'd like to solve the problem. But the external factors they can't control keep putting up road blocks, so this hack was all they could come up with to temporarily solve the issue for themselves.

Which high school friend took a path you didn't expect?

A friend I met as an adult. He had a pretty rough life growing up, his family was homeless and roamed around a lot, he was supposed to be 'homeschooled' but was really taking care of his parents during that time, so he never really had an education, obviously never went to college, etc.

He fell into learning programming as a teenager and started working when he was 16 as a web programmer. Now in his 30's, he makes more money than anyone I've personally known and I'm so freaking happy for him. A lot of bullshit people like to brag that they're 'self made' when they own companies, or are CEO's, etc. And this guy is like the most humble, kind and well adjusted person I've ever known, and he did it all himself. Super greatful to be his friend and have him in my life.
