Stuck in the machine

Reply in thread

North America was the industrial powerhouse of the world until quite recently, and it also happened to be completely organized around the need for settlers to buy up and captialize on property. It is a culture centered on adversarial productivity; there's a reason fascism has always boiled under the surface.

Google preps Pixel ‘Audio Memory’ that ambiently tracks your ‘important conversations,’ like AI notetaker pins

Reply in thread

That's kind of what I was wondering, I figured this as well as a way to track that it is at least sending data at unusual times. Someone else in this thread explained that actually determining what that data is would be difficult yeah: https://lemmy.world/post/48510943/24408747

I don't know enough about system security or forensics to evaluate this, but it does make sense based on what I know.

Resistance is futile

I think it also depends on context. If you're being "sarcastic" about something that could be harmful to someone if genuine, then it's better to make that clear and avoid potentially doing that harm. In this case, I'm making fun of Reddit and ads, no harm done.

It doesn't if you aren't just dying to catch someone being stupid. I don't care about being nice, this is the first time in my entire life that someone has admitted to expecting me to be nice online. /s

They actually plan on ads being tuned out, it's more about choking out the presence of competitors than it is actually convincing the audience that their product is worth while; y'know, like a weed.

Either way, I don't fall for it because I just make sure to type in "Reddit," right after my search for a product I want so that I get honest human reviews and not ads. 😏

Canada wants to join the age verification bandwagon and censor the internet with Bill C-34

Go learn the history behind our healthcare system. They don't need to form a govt in order to be effective. Everyone else understands what FPTP is and how Liberals weaponize anxiety over it by presenting themselves as some alternative to the Cons when they're functionally identical; especially in this case. You learned a single thing about this system and think that makes you smarter than everyone else. People make different decisions from you even with the same or more knowledge than you.

People like this are why neolibs have successfully gutted every social welfare system across this country.

The ‘Putinization’ of US foreign policy has arrived in Venezuela

Jfc how convenient to have a narrative that paints the US as a fundamentally pure society that is only violent when corrupted by foreign powers. The USA is an empire. It has always fucking done this, every president before this man has done this, none of it is surprising or exceptionally brutal for a fundamentally violent system.

I bet a bunch of people who read this and thought it wasn't pro-imperialist propaganda hadn't even thought of indigenous American nations as sovereign nations that USAmericans have invaded and inflicted genocide against for centuries. This isn't even the fourth time the US has inflicted its interests on a Latin American country through military action.

The USA is evil.
