need some advice. i rarely ask.

My advice (I really, really don't mean this to sound blunt, dismissive, or anything like that):

I'm trans because well, I am. I do not assume that any person has more in common with me because they're also trans. In fact, I've been out and transitioned/transitioning for over a decade, and I know like 2 people irl who are trans (one non-binary, one a trans woman) and they're both casual acquaintances I see around sometimes. And I live in a city of haf a million people. I am totally uninvolved in trans spaces irl, and that honestly doesn't bother me - like I said, I don't assume anyone has more in common with me because they're also trans. If there's a protest or some kind of campaign I think could make a difference, then I'll show up/lend my support but I'm not there to make friends. And in the distant past, when I was "out" as a bi "man", I often found spaces centred around identity to be susceptible to well...drama and hypocrisy. It becomes like a social club with hierarchy, when it should be a space to help marginalized people. Such is human nature I guess. My advice - fuck the toxic community where you are. Make other friends, based on things you actually share that matter - values.

That girl willingly walked away from potentially billions of dollars so she could be herself and stand up against those who would dictate otherwise if she let them. She's got stronger principles than most people out there.

Boycotting FOSS projects in the wake of the "buy canadian/european" movement makes no sense

Counterpoint: Fedora is a testing bed for Red Hat. One of Red Hat's notable customers is the US military. I'd prefer to stay off that path if I can help it. It's a matter of trust, and it's a matter of indirectly contributing. I've seen people say the same things about Deepin and everyone nods in agreement, but why the hell should I trust a US project, for the same reasons?

No, just no. Singh is as Canadian as the rest of us, period. And for any racialized Canadians reading this, that goes for you too as far as I and millions of other Canadians are concerned. We don't need to court the votes of racists and we should never feel like we ought to appease them; they either get educated or they spend the rest of their lives voting for regressives. The leadership of our diverse country ought to be reflected in our leaders and the days of trying to middle ground with regressives ought to be put firmly behind us.

Should we be wary of Red Hat?

I'm wary of them and I refuse to use Fedora (because it's basically their testing bed) due to their support of the US military, in addition to the reasons you've mentioned. Also, I'm trying my damnedest to #BoycottUSA

I prefer LMDE. It doesn't check all my wants, but it finds a great balance and I don't feel like an unpaid tester.
