need some advice. i rarely ask.

so. ill try to keep this as brief as possible because i will want to go on. im upset. to begin, i was sexually abused by a host when i was homeless. the host is a trans man and well-known in the trans communities of Seattle and the larger PNW. i got out and the org that placed me there pretty well dropped the ball as far as trauma-informed responses. basically, i cut all contact with the leftists and the org that put me in his home. i put my victim's statement in the biggest trans discord that I can imagine. it's nationwide and run locally. i was kicked and thus ostracized and ejected from the community of activists here. the ones actually getting money from mayor Wilson. if you want to read my handful of posts about my struggles this last year, they are all here on my feed.

Now, the recent part. I was invited to a birthday party by the person who vetted this host. I decided to go. I had hoped to repair the budding friendship and because we live in the same neighborhood. I said to her at least 5 months ago that I was going to get excoriated by the trans intelligentsia of seattle and she said they were loosing their clout and not to worry. Guess who was at that party? go on, guess. every fucking one of them. people you know on other social media sites. people you see in the fuckin local news. all leftists. all know me. all know the intimate details of my abuse. all watched me crash out while homeless.

did anyone say anything? a few people said hello. and one person i didnt recognize asked if they could hug me and i was very put off because strangers asking to hug me scares me. maybe they knew me. i couldnt tell because of the medical mask and the unfolding conversation to my left. the actual namesake of the org im talking about starts on about how we need to talk about trans refugees being targeted for exploitation and sexual abuse. like she looks at me in the fuckin face and says that shit after pretty much the whole org fuckin let me down. i gotta have a fuckin flashback in a party because this ignoramus looks at me and directly addresses my issue while the folks next to her look at me. People you see on the tee vee in Seattle politics. I am not even exaggerating or anything. At all.

i got up and walked out right there because i started crying

im trying to stay out of the hospital. this has got me on the ropes. it feels like i got thru all this just to have my worst fear actualize and then what? now im 100% sure that these people hate me. i came to Seattle and now the most influential trans femmes in Seattle put a goddamn scarlet letter on me

how can i feel safe to join the trans communities of various types here when its now virtually guaranteed that im going to be known and hated? like how to keep going on when the main things i have been doing, mutual-aid and integration, are going to bring me elbow-to-elbow with these folks? how to i stop feeling like the wrong kind of trans because i named my abusers? how do i find people who think i did a good thing and not a bad thing?

how do i keep going on when where i needed to be, and fled to, actively doesn't want me in particular?

like im now wondering how many of you actually know me and know already what happened? how many of you were at the party? do i know the person i refused a hug? like my mind just keeps spinning and i just keep spiraling.

all ive ever wanted is to feel safe and loved ffs

We don't currently have much advice but we do know what it's like being against/hated by the dominant groups/culture of trans groups and it's very alienating.

We will think on this, but in the mean time we are sorry you went through that and are going through it. You deserve much better.

never been to the pnw and i'm pretty new to this scene so no way we've met before (me at a party?! gasp!) from my experience in the midwest, there are some leftists who really think they're gods gift to humanity and refuse to see when they are doing harm that they would call out in others. that these others will not address what happened to you speaks volumes about them.

it sounds to me like you did the right thing. you say you were abused and i believe you. you called it out as i believe you should have. not just for yourself, but to try to prevent victimization of others. what's wrong is that others with more social caché are trying to make you question that.

as for being shut out, do you have any allies you can organize with? maybe you could put together a mutual aid group that isn't aligned with these parties.

i hope anything i wrote is helpful. you sound brave and kind to me and i wish you the love and safety you're looking for.

thank you so much for the validations. this is beyond difficult right now. i have no personal friendships here and lots of folks i see regularly.

it was one of the hardest things ive done as an adult. disclosure.

youre right. making a new group with molly and sex workers is the way to go. :) thank you, bestie. best idea ever! hehe

thank you tho. i joke to help feel less overwhelmed right now. the i believe you is just 😭 making new things is what i do anyways. thank you for reinforcing that im going to have to build vs join.

My advice (I really, really don't mean this to sound blunt, dismissive, or anything like that):

I'm trans because well, I am. I do not assume that any person has more in common with me because they're also trans. In fact, I've been out and transitioned/transitioning for over a decade, and I know like 2 people irl who are trans (one non-binary, one a trans woman) and they're both casual acquaintances I see around sometimes. And I live in a city of haf a million people. I am totally uninvolved in trans spaces irl, and that honestly doesn't bother me - like I said, I don't assume anyone has more in common with me because they're also trans. If there's a protest or some kind of campaign I think could make a difference, then I'll show up/lend my support but I'm not there to make friends. And in the distant past, when I was "out" as a bi "man", I often found spaces centred around identity to be susceptible to well...drama and hypocrisy. It becomes like a social club with hierarchy, when it should be a space to help marginalized people. Such is human nature I guess. My advice - fuck the toxic community where you are. Make other friends, based on things you actually share that matter - values.

i am grateful you do not assume. i know between 20-30 trans people irl and a good deal of them live on capitol hill with me. im in an extremely dense urban place that is a mecca for trans refugees. we all share so much in common right now. im going to see them at every event. they are at cal anderson all the time. i considered trans and general population saturation and right now, i can see 5 trans femmes an hour on broadway at any time of day or night almost. seattle is ~800k but our numbers here are so much that the mayor gave orgs like 400k to them for our refugee crisis. its a big city with a lot of people but tbh, cis people dont figure into this unless they are doing mutal-aid and direct action. also a very small group.

your advice is good, thank you. i am about building what doesnt exist. reminding me that my values matter goes a long way because im currently alone in Seattle. no in-person friends yet. YET.

I am so sorry that you had that experience those things. You deserve better. I wish I could help more than just being a voice telling you that I'm here, and that you are a good person who did not deserve to be treated that way. I see you, I hear you, and you are loved.

this is good to hear. im questioning myself a bunch. the cultural pressure to hide abuse is enormous. lately i wonder if im going to be able to make friends here because of this but i know that's adolescent me and not the me i am today. the old voices blame me for talking about my csa and thereby ending 4 marriages because i didnt keep secrets. they are ghosts that still haunt me. i forget, because of the shock therapy, why some stuff is "special hard" for me.

thank you, Bryllyg. it helps so much to hear from anyone that im not a bad person for talking about it. <3
