Oh man... I used to do server admin more tyan a decade ago and that reminds me of horrible times trying to figure problems out. The internet is so damn fragile. I don't envy anyone trying to do that these days..

Gimp ux was bad. It's been fine for years.

Freecad is WAY newer, and has had a fraction of the developer time spent on it.

"The ux is fine" doesn't mean it's feature perfect. I agree the text editor sucks, I use other tools like inkscape when I need text.

I don't know how someone can think "AI CAN obscure reality ..."

Obviously the fundamental truth is "AI does obscure reality ..." (Often this will be inconsequential, but that doesn't make it less true).

Absolutely for sure 38 days in. A friend once game me a timeline that it usually takes around half the duration of the relationship itself, give or take. That's unpleasant to hear after a 10 year relationship, but it was good advice - helped set expectations...

There was a period about 15 years ago where you going get a not stupidly expensive electric refit kit for a bunch of cars - someone I know did it with a 90s Rav4 for like $10k. Unfortunately they seem to be stupid expensive now.

Yeah, the digital dash and stuff is still a pretty huge turn-off. Dunno if it has things like electric door handles and non-mechanical brakes, but those are also disturbing.

Both make things worth. If you've got a bit of time on your hands, I can thoroughly recommend James Scott's book Seeing Like A State. Not many more clear eyed views of the recent history of social structures around.

I did. I would still make the same point. We don't need to make every conservative a true progressive believer. We need to see material change that makes things better for everyone (which will probably help change many conservatives view of what is OK/good).

This is not a "by any means necessary" thing, it's a "use what levers you have access to" thing.
