Firefox inexplicably turned on sponsored suggestions in my address bar today. I went to type something I normally type, only for it to slot a double-wide amazon ad in its place.

I'm re-reading Dune, as a close friend of mine is reading the series for the first time. I read up to God Emperor a few years ago, just after the first Villeneuve movie came out, but I hope to also read the last two books this time around.

This is the boat I'm in.

The price does spook me about the Frame, but I may get it out of desperation no matter the cost because like you said, there's no way in hell I'd buy a Meta product. I absolutely loved my Quest 2, before Meta pushed all that metaverse shit and made the thing unbootable.

Starting Heretics of Dune shortly after God Emperor was just a whiplash for me, so I stopped there. Definitely a phenomenal series though, so this time I intend to make it through all 6!

I agree with your post 100% I think. Removing oneself from big tech/data services like Google and Microsoft is resisting the regime. It's especially useful for folks that may not be able to get out and protest, meet with their representatives, etc.

As for me, I'm running my *arr/media stack for myself and my close friends and family. Fuck Disney, Netflix, and Paramount. For our household, HomeAssistant keeps the lights on and SyncThing backs up our files to the NAS.

I don't like to make fun of where people live, because everyone has different circumstances. But it is severely mind-boggling that people who do live in rural, less economically-inclined areas think that a narcissistic, city-slicking conman has their best interests in mind. This person may remain in that mobile home forever while Trump and his cadre of billionaires continue to siphon them for every penny, and that's depressing.

It's incredible to me that 4chan can pull the most racist, sexist, and homophobic dregs of our society AND the sweetest, nicest, softest uwu trans folks. Why would the latter want to hang out in a place where the former wants them dead??
