Night trains from Paris to Berlin and Vienna to be axed
I really like the night trains in Europe. It’s the only way I travel (far) nowadays. Hope this is not a trend

I definitely think this is the case. Something akin to tragedy of the commons (or maybe Braese’s paradox?) where small investments for short term gain trumps bigger investments for, comparatively, bigger gains.
Sweden, where I live, is in this situation too where the rail network is 50 years in reparation debt but it’s easier for politicians to budget for small road repairs and say that they make meaningful infrastructure work

Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’
My take has always been (regardless of living in Europe or anywhere else) that these type of issues is exactly why we have states and municipalities at all. I.e to help each other solve basic life more efficiently. Of course there’s different takes on best strategies for this but I have a hard time seeing how Mamdanis policies around infrastructure and housing are extreme in any way

Oxford just implemented congestion pricing. Drivers must pay £5 to enter the city. The money is used to subsidize public transit. Traffic is down and air quality is improving.

Wanted: "Dumb" projector for home use
I was advised to try getting hold of a good screen (there’s some ”level of reflectiveness” measurement if I remember correctly) to project on. Then even a moderately bright projector will do

I guess, given the already open nature of the Fediverse, my takeaway from this thread is that op is using their freedom to say they don’t like this particular style of moderation. Which might be useful, or not, for some moderators

What concrete steps can be taken to combat misinformation on social media? This problem is hardly an issue on this platform, but it certainly is elsewhere. Do you have any ideas or suggestions?

ÖBB has their regular booking page but I think there’s a separate Nightjet page too. Otherwise I just try to book as much as possible with Deutsche Bahn even though I don’t live in Germany
