Oxford just implemented congestion pricing. Drivers must pay £5 to enter the city. The money is used to subsidize public transit. Traffic is down and air quality is improving.

Unlike London, Oxford has a brilliant system of cheap park-and-rides, too.
And this is bad because...?
It's not
But don't worry everyone, someone will spin this as the end of the world.
Just think of all the self-righteous, obnoxious, vegan cyclists who now won't be hit by cars.
We need to bring the cars back!!
::: spoiler /s I use all forms of transport, including cycling. I do not recommended hitting anyone with a car, nor getting hit by a car. :::
Something about freedom or the economy or some tripe like that, I guess.
Yup. It's always laughable, we just have to ignore them. They can pay if they want to use their car. Also if they cared enough about the economy, they will walk or catch a bus to support the businesses. But we know they won't do that :)
It's an oppression of good, honest people who work in the office, contribute to the economy, and drive 2.5 metric tonnes vehicle at 60kmph on 30kmph zone. You can't do that to them!
It's not. NYC just did the same thing downtown after a long fight and it's been going great. Lots of whiny out of towners though.
Is your comment meant to be rage bait?
One would expect a community named "fuckcars" to be filled with people hating on cars and publishing aticles hating on cars.
That's right, this article is about cars becoming less common in Oxford (fewer cars = better)
Well yes, but it didn't look like OP was saying this was a bad idea.
Good. Cars hate tight tiny cities like Oxford.
So fucking simple. As a car owner, I would be happy to pay a small fee driving into any city. This would mean less traffic, as only the people who really need to drive would be there, so it would even benefit the drivers. Fucking insane that this not the case everywhere
Nice
I wonder if SAABs got the same carve out in Oxford that they do in London? The air filters are so good that the air coming out the exhaust was cleaner than the air going into the engine when London implemented their congestion pricing, meaning that SAAB drivers got a rebate.
It's not just about the air.
