What were you surprised to learn wasn't actually normal?

Sharing socks. My family used to have a sock basket next to our shoes. You didn't own your own socks, you just grab a pair when you need them.
I mentioned "the sock basket" offhand to a friend in elementary school and she thought it was crazy. That's when I learned that not every family has a community sock basket. Looking it up though, I find a couple reddit threads from people with the same experience (and people replying that it's weird) 🤷‍♀️

Man pleads guilty to assassinating top Minnesota Democrat and her husband

Regardless of what this case is about, I think it's wrong to offer plea deals that negotiate the sentence below the death penalty.
Even if I'm 100% innocent, I'm gonna take the plea deal instead of risking my life in court.
If there are crimes so serious that they warrant the death penalty, there should be a trial. And if we're okay with letting this person live, why did we consider taking their life in the first place? It's a very coercive way to do "justice". Admit to the crime or else we might kill you.

Smells like rule

It's kinda a well-known fun fact that Kurt Cobain didn't actually know that Teen Spirit was a deodorant brand and titled the song because his friend graffitied "Kurt smells like teen spirit" on his wall, but it's a slightly lesser-known fun fact that his friend was Kathleen Hanna who is also a great musician and probably my #1 favorite.

I take some tiny amount of satisfaction from never liking Mr. Rule

It took a lot of thinking to realize why I never liked Mr. Beast. He does a lot of philanthropy, which is ostensibly good, but I realized that I mainly dislike him as an artist/creative, ignoring whatever controversies implicate him.

As an artist creating video entertainment, Mr. Beast's primary message and aesthetic is the worship of money.
"Survive 30 Days Chained To Your Ex, Win $250,000"
"Would You Risk Drowning for $500,000?"
"2,000 People Fight For $5,000,000"
Is it worth it to participate? Yes, it might be. People risk humiliation or their health or their lives for money all the time. But the magnification, glorification, deification of money as the Supreme Object that determines the value of anything is what I don't like about his "art".

Fuck it, time for TES rules

Morrowind is my favorite but I like how Daggerfall (being as big as a real country) has so many little towns and big cities that you can really find a unique place to live. Make your home in a small village or move to the big city. I lived in Sentinel City, the capital.

I never finished any of the games though. They all have that one part that I can't figure out or can't bother to slog through

That is literally the outfit of DPRK's famous news anchor. Look up "North Korea broadcast news" and you will see pictures of her.

Edit: her name is Ri Chun-hee and the outfit is a chima jeogori, a type of hanbok. Source: BBC & Wikipedia

Madoka Rule

"Madoka Magica is actually a deconstruction of the magical girl genre because unlike most magical girl shows it's really dark and revolutionized the genre imo" sayers be like: "no I haven't actually watched any other magical girl anime but I really want to :)"

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake – Coming 2026

Reply in thread

I like it when they at least differentiate the title a little bit. Makes it a little bit easier to distinguish between the two games.

Remakes often have different staff, art direction, design philosophy, gameplay, etc. so personally I kinda prefer that they give it a new title instead. Using the exact same title makes me feel like they're trying to replace the original.
