Musk melts down as Tesla stock price plunges

The amount of raw, undiluted satisfaction that would come from watching Musk's fortune disappear would probably be enough to tide me over for the rest of the Trump presidency. I could be sent to a concentration camp slaving away somewhere manufacturing MAGA merch, and I'd still have a smile on my face knowing Elon went broke.

DuckDuckGo CEO says Google kills competition through phone deals that make it hard for users to switch search engines

Reply in thread

I think if you were to ask "most people" about which search engine they prefer, they wouldn't really understand the question. I remember in highschool a teacher asked someone what operating system they have at home, and she replied "I think it's Microsoft Office".

Tech people tend to severely overestimate non-tech peoples' understanding of tech.

Disney shareholders reject anti-DEI proposal

Fuck this shit, now I gotta be pro Disney too? I'd gotten so used to hating them. They grew on me a little back when they stood up against DeSantis in Florida too.

I miss the days when we could just love/hate corporations based on their business practices instead of culture war bullshit.

Reddit Activity Plummeted After The Protests

Reply in thread

Turns out that Reddit is a lot easier to quit than most people claim or realize. I still end up there from web searches occasionally, because some communities just don’t exist in lemmy (also lemmy frankly sucks as a place for finding niche communities due to fragmentation and shitty search tools). But besides that, there’s nothing particularly compelling about reddit anymore.

I wonder where people are going though? They’re definitely not coming here unless they’re an adult male technology/linux nerd.

The Problem with Linus Tech Tips: Accuracy, Ethics, & Responsibility

Damn this is eye opening for me. LTT was always my most trusted source for tech reviews. I noticed that they’d make little mistakes every once in a while, but didn’t realize it was part of a larger problem. I actually made a Ryzen 9 7900 buying decision recently because of this video which made it seem like the best value (especially compared to their very confusing 7950x3d review). After watching this GN video though, I feel stupid for not even thinking to check other channels before making a buying decision.

(Although honestly this is a major upgrade over my previous hardware, so even if it wasn’t the best possible option, it’s still a net positive for me.)

I really hope LTT takes this criticism seriously. It’s always gratifying to see misbehavior have consequences on the internet, but these independent reviewers are pretty much the only people on our side as consumers. I’d rather see a course correction than a crash, especially since LMG in particular has a uniquely powerful position and can have real impacts on manufacturers that benefit consumers.
