Yeah, I think so, I just tried the Media Player approach first and it worked well and is super easy to do, so I stuck with it. I like that it simply opens up a small window of a random screenshot I took and I can overlay windows over it but it keeps the screen unlocked anyway. I'm not sure if the same can be done with the PowerPoint technique? The eternally looping Media Player screenshot is nice since I'll work in bursts; sometimes I'll fuck off to Lemmy for an hour, other times only 5 min, other times I'll actually work for several hours, all while the looping screenshot does its thing. (My work's policy has our screens turn off every five minutes or so of inactivity and it annoys the absolute shit out of me.)

Seconding Flonase! I buy a bottle every spring. It's basically a miracle for me.

This news finally convinced me to make a Lemmy account so I can participate a little more instead of lurk. That, and generally how awful Reddit has been becoming for like, several years at this point, since the IPO.

I've swapped out RedReader on my phone's home screen with Boost; though I think it'll take some time to break the Reddit addiction.

Windows 11 feels awful to use. My home laptop whirrs like crazy because it feels the need to download updates so often. There's a bunch of creepy processes/tasks running all the time. I tried to disable as many as I could, but some they prevent users from deleting. You don't want your laptop to run the "UsageAndQualityInsights" task every day? Well TOO BAD!

Windows 11 forces updates whenever it can. If I close the lid on my laptop, which should put it in a light sleep, I will sometimes open it up to it being restarted, so all my previously open programs being closed, because I guess they wanted to forcefully make me get their latest updates, potential unsaved work be damned. They don't care at all what you want, just "too bad, we know what's best for you."

There are so many basic bugs that I'm surprised exist. I have to use ExplorerPatcher to get some sense of normalcy back. The UI in some ways is so frustrating. Every time I want to use the calendar, it shows a giant empty blob for "notifications", even though I disable all notifications... why still show me this waste of space? I just want a calendar when I click the date...

I was shocked to find out that the inability to drag files onto applications in order to do basic drag-and-drop functionality is not a thing anymore. Why?! (I think ExplorerPatcher fixes this on my home laptop, but on my work laptop which also uses Windows 11 I am baffled by this every time I forget and try to drag a file onto a taskbar icon.)

It sucks having to constantly look up various tips, tricks, and hacks to make the operating system slightly bearable in all these little ways. "Here's how you can disable OneDrive which apparently had a habit of removing people's files whoopsie, here's how you can disable Copilot which had a super helpful feature where it literally just snapshots pictures of your screen all the time haha how helpful and totally not creepy, here's how you can bring back the normal right-click menu." But it only can do so much, and it's exhausting.

I feel like it's not "my computer," it feels like the most "Big Brother" operating system ever; it always feels like "something" is watching me or lurking in the background reporting back to some giant Microsoft data center on what I'm doing, what my files are, etc. It's just this really creepy feeling. I feel "gross" when I use it.

I wish I could have Windows 10, but I know that's basically not an option anymore. I want to switch to Linux, but I'm not techy enough and worried I'll fail at switching over. I am slowly working up the courage to try to install Linux Mint, as that sounds like the most beginner-coming-from-Windows-friendly distro of Linux.

It seems poorly worded. I think they were trying to say that the person's interpretation of what happened is a fact. Basically that someone can't handwave away how a person says they feel as if it's not true; how a person says they genuinely felt about something is true to them. I assume it is supposed to be targeted towards estranged parents who constantly dismissed their child's emotions and literally cannot understand how that is a bad thing to do.

It feels sad that I felt relief that he didn't win. That's how low my faith is in the electorate at this point.

Any death penalty charges were thrown out a while ago iirc. I think life in prison is the max he can get now.

Switching from Reddit to Lemmy has been quite a breeze. I still check Reddit occasionally but it honestly doesn't feel like I'm missing out too much if I don't, it's so nice. I'm at the point where my Boost usage is beating my RedReader usage.

Now, to be fair, looking into the results of a Republican primary and expecting to feel hopeful is like going to the barn animals exhibit at a county fair and expecting to smell something other than animal shit.

They were playing Viva La Vida in the grocery store. I'm like... Okay, grocery store, I get you're trying to "cater to my demographic" since we're the "new olds" who now regularly shop for produce, but who the fuck thought Viva La Vida was a good "millennial shopper" music choice for picking out produce and scrutinizing cereal boxes? I died inside. Sacrilegious.

Yeah, it's quite active now, how exciting! I started browsing it just like I did RedReader last night and it didn't feel like I was missing out on news or conservations. Also I like the Boost UI in some ways more than RedReader's, so I'm sure that's helping make the transition easier lol. Reddit really shot itself in the foot destroying all the popular 3rd party apps, reddit is fun was my beloved. RedReader is nice to have still available, but it honestly doesn't hold a candle to rif's nice UI/UX. Boost being basically on par with rif for me is making letting go of reddit all the more easier.
