I've got banned from Apex Legends

A year and a half back I was sent an email from Apex saying I was banned for hacking. I hadn't played apex for a year and my account hadn't been logged into during that whole time, so if they're false flagging players that don't even have the game installed then who knows that the fuck they're doing in their anti cheat. They actually reversed the ban when I contested it though.

What's the greatest joy you have gotten from a video game?

Once when I was 8, a friend brought over his PS1 and Metal Gear Solid. We played pranks on the guards in the zone that has a bathroom using claymores and Nikita missiles and called snake the Toilet Stalker. Peak 8 year old humor, I couldn't breathe from laughing.

Another in High school, visited my older sister in the dorms and the boy floors were having a massive halo Lan party since all the rooms were connected. I had never played a console shooter before but the guys were really welcoming and wanted me to join anyways. One match came down to a 1v1 with me and one of the good players, I almost got him with the sniper but lost. I wasn't too bummed but afterwards everyone on the floor cheered me up. I stomped the same guy later that night in warcraft 3 and that one felt good.

Really love the overall climate of lemmy so far

Reply in thread

This might be a weird take because I only thought about it after reading your comment, which I am really curious to hear others opinions on as well. On Reddit, I can usually guess the 3 top level comments, and for any others that I don't - the comment came from a repost bot detecting bot that reposts the previous top level. The number of comments is higher, but sorting by new or controversial is a test of patience and morbid curiosity, so who actually sees these thousands of posts? I'm not saying what Lemmy has is better by any stretch, but it's novel for the time being and a good break from all the stuff I've been complaining about for years now.

I do get FOMO from not having all that information on r/all immediately within reach, but Lemmy has really helped me curb my reddit addiction in a good way. I don't think this really answered your question at all, but I think I am getting closer to understanding others that look past it. I was a digg refugee as well, so maybe I'm just getting used to the idea of starting over.

What's the worst food you've ever eaten?

Reply in thread

Someone on lemmy posted this recently: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_pineapple

My mother in law is Korean so out of curiosity I had her pick up the Korean dish made from it (meonggae) after seeing the lemmy post. It taste like the smell of a dank metal spiral stair case at Seaworld. Even through all the (imo) tasty spices and seasoning. I asked my MIL what she likes about it and she said, "it tastes so fresh because one bite and your transported to the sea". Especially with the older generation, the context can make the food way more than the taste

Do you spend more time on lemmy than you did on reddit?

Reply in thread

For me it's because I'm not reading the same top comment on virtually every post. I used to always skip top comment because it was just a copied comment to a repost, but eventually it got so silly I had to read halfway down to get any original thoughts. Now that we're in a world where there's so much bot generated content and it isn't affecting lemmy in largely the same way as the other social media platforms, it's even more apparent.

To the other repliers point, contrarian commentary isn't censored as heavily and power tripping mods to get named and shamed from what I've seen from my perspective - that said I am a heavy reader instead of commentator so I have my own set of biases.

What movie did you rewatch most often?

Reply in thread

Hackers is a great choice, it's so cheesy but it just draws you in and completely suspends your beliefs. Every character is likeable and the lines are so well delivered, man now I got to rewatch it. Terminator 2, hackers, and Pokemon 1st gen probably made more SDEs than any stem outreach program.

What's your go-to comfort food when you've had a rough day?

Fattest greasiest breakfast I can buy nearby. In college I would get the comically american large pancake/proteins + hash brown diner combo before a final and food coma my way through the stress. The place always had a fully decked topping bar so smother that shit in whipped butter and syrup. Calorie bomb helped me focus I think, and I didn't have any money in school so it was also my treat for getting through the quarter.
