As a former cast member, the pay is atrocious. The "perks" have been slowly removed over the last two decades (I worked there from 2008 - 2016.) I've know plenty of cast members that lived six or eight people to a two bedroom apartment.

They've lost a ton of employees and standards have dropped significantly.

I've got stock in the company too, and I hope they strike and get everything they deserve.

As a former Disney cast member, I wholly support this protest and I truly hope they strike.

In worked from 2008-2016 and started at $9.05/hr. We got 2% a year in raises, but in that time new hires would start at higher wages and they wouldn't match the employees who had been there to the new employees wage. Brand new employees would make more than those that had been there years.

When Anaheim had a ballet measure to raise the minimum wage they raised a ton of cast members wages to $3 less than the measure in hopes they could discourage people to vote for it. Fortunately, the measure passed. However, during this period they didn't retain the yearly raises, everyone was raised to the exact same wage. Those who had been there 30 years (no exaggeration) made exactly the same as new hires.

They've gotten hostile to their employees and the "perks" that employees for have been slowly stripped away. Each year getting slightly worse. Which is a problem because new hires don't know how much better it used to be so they don't know what to demand anymore.

I knew cast members that used to live 6 or 8 people to a two bedroom apartment. Most worked multiple jobs. Many of the entertainers who play as the characters ended up injured from wearing the Mickey and other character costumes. Multiple who had to have surgery to treat those injuries.

They have let standards fall, hard. The parks aren't what they used to be and literally the only thing keeping them together is the cast. They try so fucking hard to bring the magic to guests each and every day. They have been kneecapped by management though. IMO, of all "attractions" at the parks, the cast are the best. And the one that management should be investing in the most. They are the differentiator between Disney and Knott's Berry Farm, Universal Studios, and Six Flags. However leadership has constantly worked to move interactions from Cast Members to their half baked app.

Understand that all these cast members do it because they love bringing the magic to the guests. They endure shitty pay, shitty management, and injury for the guests. They care so much about making the public and tourists happy. They deserve so much more.

My opinion is that these shootings are a greater failure in this country than simply gun control. There is a LOT we need to work on to decrease mass shootings. While I admit, I am more on the personal responsibility side of the gun control debate, I am not against well thought through legislation. I don't think that most of the proposals for gun control are rational, detailed, and written with an even cursory understanding of firearms.

To start to address mass shootings, I believe that we need to expand our healthcare in this country. Both physical and mental healthcare. If people are physically well, and can get treatment that doesn't threaten to bankrupt them, then they will have more opportunities to develop better coping mechanisms. They will be able to seek healthcare options and not feel like they are left to fend for themselves. The isolation from a society that doesn't care or help them is detrimental, and while I have no studies to back it up, I would think that a society with a healthcare system thats prerogative is the patient instead of profit would help.

I think the aspect of mental healthcare speaks for itself. So people don't lash out and can seek other means of dealing with issues. I also believe that the stigma of seeking mental healthcare and it's ability to impact people's rights and job prospects is a hindrance. We should not make it so that if someone seems help, that they are punished for it.

I believe we have a big culture shift that needs to occur. Too much do we use rhetoric that reinforces that firearms and gun violence is the ultimate solution to a disagreement. "Fuck around and find out" when used in the context of firearms is terrible. Firearms should be considered the last resort to protect life. Not property and not your feelings.

Firearms are not conflict resolution! We need to work to give people better ways of solving and deescalating conflicts.

We need to work on our wealth disparity. We should be elevating our poorest so that they don't have to resort to violence or crime. As most firearm crimes are not mass shootings, we need to address the other parts of firearm use.

We need to work on our community involvement. Bring people together, break down the walls between us, and get past the cliques.

There is a lot we need to do, but gun control is only a small piece of solving gun violence.
