Even though programming and IT is a great hobby of mine, I ultimately decided not to pursue it on a university level as I didn't want to potentially turn my hobby into something I despise. Is their JS code open source? If so, I don't see any real differences between an extension and JS code. Unless extensions have less privileges or something. The user will have to either trust the code or inspect it themselves regardless if it's an extension or JS code.

That's true. On the other hand, the extension gains a much larger attack surface since it has access to a lot more data (every site you visit vs. only the site that serves the JS code). At the end of the day, people wouldn't use your site if they didn't trust your site, especially if they use it for privacy and integrity reasons, so for most users I think JS is the better option. I suppose there's no reason you can't offer both though.

In Sweden they can (and do). The police here take about 55 000 blood and urine samples per year for drug use convictions. It's awful.

Does anyone know if the NixOS packages are safer from these types of attacks? As far as I know many packages are missing maintainers.

I'm waiting. Not only because I'd rather use Motorola over Google, but also because I want to wait and see how the EU ID apps will work on GrapheneOS. If it won't work on GOS (which seems quite likely as of today), then I will ditch the phone as a social medium entirely and only use it for ID, banking apps and other proprietary garbage society forces upon me. I'd relegate my social life to a portable laptop or something, on which I have a far greater control of the software.

If that were true, TLS/HTTPS would count as E2EE. I don't think your definition is correct, but I could of course be wrong. But yes, I want client side encryption.

Nowadays I only really use Jellyfin, but before that I exclusively used mpv. As for why, I just felt it worked a bit better (not sure if it has to do with codecs) and I liked how it suited terminal based workflows.

I've used Arch on and off since around 2006 or so. I've used most distributions, including Gentoo, and in recent years things like Debian and atomic Fedora. I've settled for NixOS now though and I don't see it changing unless a better declarative OS/language comes along (Guix is a good contender with its Scheme).

Sure, but as far as I can tell its E2EE implementation is subpar. There are ton of providers that offer NC hosting, including Hetzner, but my main concern is encryption. Do you have any experience with it?
