Texas anti-ICE protesters convicted of terrorism charges sentenced to at least 50 years in prison

Good news! The President only just recently set aside $1.8b worth of taxpayer dollars just for the defense of people who were unfairly prosecuted by the governm-- oh, shit... The fine print here says here that money's only available if you're THE perfectly Instagramable PR show-dog for the current administration and their anti-democratic, fascist shit-show.

Well, you know, when tyranny becomes law...

LAPD releases footage of moment officers shot and killed woman’s dog

Reply in thread

The whole "Bricks and Mini-figs" debacle took the tiniest shred of belief I have left in US police accountability and absolutely nuked it from orbit.

Oops! The cameras were accidentally turned off. But if you can prove they weren't, well then whoops! Here's that footage you asked for... But all the faces are blurred and all the audio is deleted "to protect the innocent," and for NO OTHER REASON, thanks for asking.

Git good, son

Yeah, please. Why be deceptive? It serves no one.

Better yet, take responsibility for your own pleasure. Play an active role in getting what you want out of the act. Communicate. Why wouldn't you?

Double Check That List

"I pulled some strings, and I got The List. In fact, I've got it right here with me now."

* Pulls napkin from his pocket *

"Hey, would you look at that -- Kamala Harris, right at the top, just as I suspected... Joe Biden, yep, that tracks... Wow, ALL of the Clintons, how about that? And not surprisingly, Donald J. Trump is definitely nowhere to be found on the Epstein List. Welp, there ya have it everybody."

Hertz' AI System That Scans for "Damage" on Rental Cars Is Turning Into an Epic Disaster

Oh, so Hertz has gotten wise to... every online platform that exists: Outsourcing all responsibility for their user-hostile bullshit to some vague "system" that cannot be held accountable.

I'm so sorry but the advertised cost has doubled because... Computer says so! No, sir, there's nothing I can do, sir, you see it's the system.

And you can't go anywhere else, because everyone else is doing it (or soon will be) too!

The goal is suffering

"Built a 3000 bed federal prison in eight days" almost sounds like they finally actually did something, until you realize:

  • The compound is located at the site of the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, so there was already infrastructure
  • The area for detainees is a tent
  • Inside the tent is bunk beds, portapotties and a chain link fence

But yeah, I also would have preferred our government take care of the unhoused (or just done nothing at all) instead of... this.

My employer likes vibe-coding. What do I do?

Our internal slack channels contain more and more AI-written posts, which makes me think: Thank you for throwing this wall of text on me and n other people. Now, n people need to extract the relevant information, so you are able to "save time" not writing the text yourself. Nice!!!

My last software dev employer did this, except with the "voice recording" feature. Instead of composing messages in text in a text chat (because that takes too long), he'd hit the record button and just start talking it out, then send the recording. Easy! Then the team had to download and listen to ~5 minutes of verbal diarrhea, pausing and rewinding for twice that long in an attempt to glean something useful from it. This particular kind of delusion existed before AI.
