Did you knew that? [This is on Next Level]

Water rights are the opposite of late stage capitalism. It's silly to enforce when we're talking about a residential rain barrel, but when we're talking on much larger scales is critical. When creeks are drying up because landowners are building catchment ponds, water rights start to look pretty good.

Do you think the guys on the titanic submarine will be rescued?

It's mostly the being rich thing.

It's really sad that something like this gets so much news coverage and international support, while poor people are facing similar fates and we all pretend it's not happening.

I understand the news coverage. These are folks who are relatable to a lot of western audiences. People aspire to their wealth. The international support and rescue efforts though are a little shameful. You don't see this kind of efforts when it's migrants fleeing war and oppression.

I see the attention on the war in Ukraine similarly. What Russia is doing is shameful and I'm glad Ukraine is getting so much help. At the same time Yemen has it much worse. Hardly anyone even knows there is a war happening there, but it's American built bombs that are dropping on neighborhoods. They're not quite white and relatable enough to get us all putting their flag on our Twitter profiles.

You’ve just spent $400 on a baby monitor. Now you need a subscription | Once upon a time there was a company called Miku who wasn’t making quite enough money...

I have a baby monitor, and considered using an IP camera before buying it. The reason I like mine is because I've got a separate little handheld monitor on RF instead of wifi. There's a handful of situations where it's fine in very handy. Our nanny could use it without us having to set her up with any tech. Works while traveling without having to deal with hotel Wi-Fi or hot spots. Works outside much further than my wifi reaches. I like the RF.

Pop!_OS on Kali Linux

The Pop Shell extension includes tiling but not the keyboard shortcuts, gestures, or anything involving workspaces.

Your options to get the full experience would be to manually configure all of those things. It would be far easier to start with Pop_os and add the packages from Kali that you want than to go the other way.

Why do you personally prefer using an Android phone?

I use Windows, Linux and MacOS daily, and want a phone where the connectivity features don't care what platform I'm on. iOS wants you to be on other Apple devices.

Beyond that, Android is more flexible. I don't do much fiddling with my phone's configuration but I like to have the option.

Lastly, I just like the interface better. That's subjective, and no I understand completely why iphone folks prefer that interface, but I like the stock android interface much better.

Pending home sales drop to a record low, even worse than during the financial crisis

What property investors are buying with cash? The extreme leveraging is one of the main things that makes real estate investing attractive.

I think folks might be confused about the term "cash offer" when buying/selling houses. This generally doesn't mean that someone is literally buying the property without debt involved, but that they can make the purchase without involving the mortgage process. Usually with a line of credit or similar funding.

Trump threatens Canadian cars with tariffs up to 100%

Reply in thread

You might see short term savings on some things during the economic turbulence, but overall it will make things more expensive in the short and long term.

For things that Canada is a net exporter of, like Canola, you might see a sudden oversupply when exports stop, and then cheaper products. In the long term, farms will adjust or go out of business. The expenses that come along with that wind up on the consumer eventually.

For manufactured items, if a business is shifting to solely domestic markets, they lose a lot of economies of scale which again increases costs.

Overall, free trade is a mixed bag. It ultimately saves consumers money, but leads to larger multinational businesses and reduced national autonomy.

Unwinding free trade gives up the reduced costs and costs a lot of money in retooling and reestablishing supply chains etc.

Favorite Costco buys

Every trip we gotta get: Diapers Organic walnuts Roasted pistachios Beef jerky Mangos

Most of our ingredients for meals are from local sources, so a lot of the time it feels like our Costco trips are just buying $200 worth of snacks. They're good snacks though.
