Police Kicking Over Memorial For Renee Good.
Nothing screams "I'm an enormous loser who must project my insecurity onto the world" like kicking over a candle at a dead person's memorial.

Dominos using AI for ads.
I hope this backfires so hard and completely destroys their brand image. We really need to strengthen advertising laws so that, by the time the models can reliably produce visuals that look much better than the real food, it's illegal and has severe penalties. At least for now this pizza looks wonky as hell.

Over 100 priests have been arrested in Minneapolis for civil disobedience. They gathered to demand that airlines stop contracting deportation flights with DHS. (Minnesota | 01/23/26 | -15°F)
In the unlikely event anyone in law enforcement reads this: you do not have to participate in the arrest of peaceful protestors engaging in civil disobedience. At any time, you can be the first link in the chain of state violence to break and refuse to participate. Either prove the police unions truly protect their own or merely exist to perpetuate the immoral victimization of everyday people.

Canadians are staying away from Las Vegas — and it's becoming a Nevada election issue
Reply in thread
Vegas used to be the land of free stuff to reduce all barriers to gambling and keep you around gaming: free parking, free drinks, free shows. Rooms were cheaper than you'd expect because it was subsidized by the gambling. All of that is gone now.
I think they are convinced they can survive on milking rich idiots. I don't think it makes sense from a scale perspective. Vegas always builds way too big because they never want to turn away gamblers due to lack of space. But it's really expensive to cool and maintain enormous spaces.

That's not really how trials for treatments like this work. The non-experimental groups would get standard of care/a comparator which would be used to determine efficacy. It would be unethical to give sugar pills to patients with advanced NSCLC.

Couple left with $200k bill after baby born in US
Reply in thread
Arguing the care wasn't covered because the baby wasn't named in the insurance despite explicitly covering pregnancy-related care is ghoulish behavior. I can't fathom how you can argue that seriously and not feel like a piece of shit.

The vast majority of atheists are agnostic atheists, and "we don't know" is that in a nutshell. Gnostic atheists who "know" there is no god are rather rare but very loud.

Sorry, but I’m bringing my iced coffee to the job interview
I interview candidates several times per year. I cannot imagine caring if they're drinking a coffee during the interview. I often am drinking coffee or water. We need competent people who are good collaborators. Paying attention to irrelevant nonsense would be shooting ourselves in the foot. I have to work with and rely on these people afterwards to get stuff done. If I miss out on a good person because I needed a power trip, I'm the one who suffers.

Adult life in 2026, so beautiful

We do! What's really helpful is many products of the same category are in different units. One will be per sheet, one per roll, one per 100 sheets, one per 500 sheets... and then the true thickness is completely different, so 1 ply for one brand will hold up ok while another will start disintegrating the moment you pull it off the roll. Do you feel free yet?

It's also a crime anywhere in the US. Whether the police will do much to investigate beyond typing up a report probably depends on how easy it is for them to solve, whether you matter, etc.

"I just don't talk politics" before giving you their Andrew Tate take
I've never met someone who says they're not political who is actually not political. They just prefer to think about the things they care about as "above politics" or don't want the heat for their opinions.

Massachusetts lesbian bar faces boycott after lifting face mask rule
Reply in thread
Considering how deep in the red the bar is that it's relying on volunteers, success might not exactly be the word. Since it's got on one remaining owner who was only in it to support two owners who've left, the bar is not going to be around much longer without a dedicated, forgiving customer base. I have seen similar establishments with much more accommodating followings close.

No idea if this was an official explanation, but I always heard drop rates like this were simulating the item/body part/etc. being too damaged during combat to retrieve.
