I don't know why but this initially registered as a device to save Princess Diana.

Sometimes they'll be marked as handicap vehicles too and park there. Like, I get if you have a physical handicap that makes it tough to walk long distance, but if you can climb 2 feet to get into your giant truck, I don't know what possible physical impairment you have. I live in an area with pavement princesses everywhere. It's ridiculous.

And I need it installed because, "freedoms" and it helps me to "hunting for sport". You understand...

A vehicle that is ostensibly for off-road or "heavy duty work" that never leaves the pavement/road.

It's the details like the Punisher skull that really tell a personal story.

20 years ago I had an F150. even then the newer trucks were much higher and much brighter than me. sometimes they would ride my tailgate and blind tf out of me.

my solution was to slow down. clearly they want to go around. most did, some didn't.

my favorite memory was reducing down to 25mph in a 55mph zone outside town. they had ample time to pass before town. once inside the town limits we were cruising at a blistering 10mph in a 35mph zone.

I pulled into the gas station to fill up and they pulled in behind me. gave me dirty daggers the whole time too. I just smiled and nodded while I slowly filled my tank. eventually they came to their senses and questioned wtf they were trying to accomplish and left.

Not sure it's a good idea to blind the Child Killer 5000 operator when it's coming in your direction

I no longer care. I'm sick of being blinded by LED headlights.

also, you often can't even tell what it is that's blinding you, so it could be a Corolla as easily as a truck

3

I'll stick to the Passenger Carrier War Bus 3000 when available. I can simply nap while you guys do sacrifice.

5

Yeah I'm not brave enough to do this. I've been in these vehicles with the people that drive them, they have no mercy for others.

6

and if they are behind you: get one of those reflective umbrellas and open it in the backseat to get them to stop climbing up your asshole

12

I've often considered putting a giant mirror in my back window to reflect their high beams back into their eyes

If they're tailgating enough and their lights are bright enough you can adjust your side mirrors to shine a beam right back in their face. I've done it a handful of times.

5

I just pull over, let them pass, then put my highbeams on while behind them.

6

I've seen this advice and tried it. It feels so incredibly dangerous to try track the beam of light while still trying to pay attention to the road.

5

A pop up 2-way mirror would work to. It would both dim their headlights for you, and reflect their own shit back at them.

Someone actually did this near where I live - every so often I'll see a VW Golf with four rows of lightbars mounted putting about and this is the only explaination for it I can think of

I really hope they turn on 1, wait for the truck to turn on their brights and then slap them with all 4.

2

this is pretty much what I'm going to do on my car, when I get around to it

they get the polite typical quick highbeam flash to let them know they're blinding me. then the highbeams stay on. then they turn their highbeams on, which is noticed because the treetops are now lit up (but there is no difference in the light hitting my face). then they get multiple light bars, maybe with some strobe. idk.

idgaf. I'm sick of this shit. fuck people who drive around blinding. everybody because iT cAmE tHaT wAy. fucking sick of it.

1

Maybe, but it's a slammed golf GTI that barely clears potholes, usually they go the opposite direction for that look

Gently sloping roads are the biggest issue. I have a 2024 WRX. My headlights are absurdly bright. They generally point at the grille and below of cars, but if I'm going slightly downhill and a car is coming slightly uphill, it's going to be in their windshield. I get flashed, I turn off my headlights entirely, we collide. There's no winning.

7

I would rather your headlights be off than be blinding. it is actually safer that way. we can see you without them, and you have DRLs anyways. I've pondered this many a time when being blinded by somebody when it's not even actually dark out yet

If your lights are too bright that's a genuine problem. Replace them. Call it a defect and make the dealer or manufacturer do it if you can. Otherwise, pay for it yourself, I don't care, just fucking fix it so you're not a hazard to everyone else.

The reason we're in this stupid goddamn situation in the first place is no one taking responsibility for endangering others.

Except they're not, they're fine. Except in specific situations where the lights are naturally pointed into someone else's windshield and they think I've got the high beams on. I thought I wrote that but it may not have been clear.

they're not fine

I'm familiar with modern Subarus. the headlights are blinding. your own experience shows you this.

when I flash you, it's not because I think you have your high beams on. I do not give a fuck what type of headlight you have on, I can't see

I accept. I grew up on headlights that were definitely dim by comparison, and so modern headlights for sure are bright. I think angle is the important thing. In 85% of situations it's perfect, but sometimes the road pulls them up into other vehicles' windshields.

I know Mercedes had some technology to basically shut off that part of the light, so as to never blind other drivers. IIRC it was made illegal in the US.

3

Just mount it on a gimbal and add automatic targeting and welp you've got a LaWS CIWS and a millitary contract for 10 billion dollars.

I can get behind this. Turn them on as revenge at the lifted truck with headlights right at the level where it makes your rear view mirror unusable if you're in a sedan.

LIDAR is radar with lasers. You're not using it to blind anyone. It's a way of detecting the physical space around the sensor with a very high degree of accuracy, especially when it comes to distance.

1

shrug the only thing I have that employs lidar (afaik) is my vacuum robot, which has a warning to not look at the turret at ground level while it's in motion
