I hope this backfires so hard and completely destroys their brand image. We really need to strengthen advertising laws so that, by the time the models can reliably produce visuals that look much better than the real food, it's illegal and has severe penalties. At least for now this pizza looks wonky as hell.

Which brand image?
Having real shitty fat leaking pizza?

At least that was my (luckily) only experience with them...

I always found pizza hut way greasier, like hand covered in oil after I eat a slice.

I do get the pan pizza from Dominos so the crust is much crispier than their normal crust which I don't think I've ever ordered so in that case it might be greasier.

Hmm...I think, I was at pizza hut once and was also disappointed

But I'm leaving living very near to Italy and we have many higher quality pizzerias around and mostly no food chains, but just family businesses

Maybe I'm just spoiled ;-)

Edit: auto correct is shit ...

Not sure who down voted you, but yeah, it's nice to have some real Italian restaurants around

Sadly I'm missing a real Mexican restaurant, with which the US probably is probably the better place to be - besides actual Mexico of course ;-)

If you're ever in Bologna, Piedra del Sol has legitimate Mexican food. Finding a place with freshly made tortillas and proper margaritas was a pleasant surprise.

3

Thank you very much! :-D

I have two customers in Italy, which I frequently visited the last years, but Bologna will be a bit far for a dinner during a business trip with 10-18h/day

But I'll look it up and save it
Thanks again, really appreciate such recommendations :-)

Shit. Watch a documentary on fast food commercials. It's already been crazy bullshit before AI ever showed up.

Theyve been shrinkflating the size of their pizza for decades. They dont care about "image" lol

The text on the side of the right pizza box.

Dommronniro's

You'd think mangling their logo would be a no-no in their own ads.

38

I saw an Instagram reel that really put it straightforwardly: before genAI, designers used to catch tons of flack when the most minor things were not to executives' insane exacting standards. But they're perfectly fine with utter slop shoved on to prod.

13

I would have transcribed it as "Demnn Fennìrós." But yeah. Sloppity slop.

3

Seems they put a comparable level of care into the quality of their advertisements as they do the quality of their pizza.

25

AI that "looks real" should be, in my opinion, clearly labeled as such. A little tag in the corner.

They've already gotten away with so much for so long, for example the advertisement burger is a prop that looks much different than an actual burger. All of this is deceitful.

My Al detection is really bad: why do you say it’s AI?

the text on the side of the cardboard.
i would always zoom in small text first and see if something's up.

also the general vibe of it, even though you obviously cannot be too sure about it. but there are certain things ai likes to add, for example depth of field.

55

Also consider the logic of how those "breadsticks?" seem to be sliced - they're cut in strips but also someone cut off 2/3 of a strip from 2 of them and one is sideways. Like a chaotic 4 year old was in charge of slicing.

  • there is yello-orange-y filter on the image
  • the way she holds the mayonaise cup
  • the people skin and clothes look wayy too smoth, just like if i repainted them on photoshop
  • the guy running seem to have only 4 fingers on his right hand
  • the food looks too fake IMO (cmon, even ads that use glue instead of cheese look more real...)

It would be easier to notice if we had the full vid instead of a screenshot

Edit: found full video on shitbook https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1728958371772134&vanity=dominospizzaindia

There are many things i could nitpick but that's just a waste of time, you can see how they play Rock, Paper, Scissors yet the hand gestures make no sense at all

The bench gets a back rest half way through!

Oh man, the video really is unwatchable… thanks for pointing all these things out!

Mayonnaise?

MAYONNAISE?

Who the FUCK WOULD EAT PIZZA WITH MAYONNAISE?

that's obviously ranch

7

the way she holds the mayonaise cup

Who among us doesn't like to dip our fingers into the condiments?

4

The weird bread she’s eating is cut horizontally, but for some reason the first two pieces removed stop at the same vertical line like it was cut that way.

God I hate stuff like this.

1

AI ads always have this cosmic horror uncanny valley feel to them. I don’t know why a brand would do this to themselves.

Zoom in on the pizza and tell me the toppings

Onions, peppers, cherry tomatoes, weird block chicken cubes, and 1 random suasage.

Have you ever seen a pizza with sausage slices that big‽ That was the dead giveaway to me. I mean, every pizza ad makes the cheese and toppings look perfect but those are little sausage towers.

Now I want a pizza like that!

2
lemmy.ml

I thought they were scallops. I couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on.

2

Actually, you're right: They do kinda look like scallops.

Having said that, I think I've figured out what they actually are: Marshmallows 😂

Dominoes expired my points because I didnt order from them for a year. I had like a decade of points saved. So I'm done with them and honestly their pizza isnt good.

Buy local

19

It sucked shit 20 years ago but it's fine since like 2010. Better than Little Caesar's for sure. Worse, but cheaper, than the non-chain options around me. (Though nowadays if I pretty much only get pizza from Costco, Moto, MOD, or a local joint. It is nice to have a reliable middle ground for groups of people.)

Funkt4st1creply
lemmy.world

Its objectively better than every other nationwide chain in my area. Papa johns tastes like cardboard, pizza hut doesnt exist, little ceasars IS cardboard, marcos tastes like rubber, and Dominos is... Manageable. My hands are covered in garlic and parmesan, but... Managable.

4
MMLreply
sh.itjust.works

I agree with most everything, except Marcos is probably top of the list for me, want to be mortal enemies?

3

I don't mind the taste if somebody else is buying, but the acid reflux is GUARANTEED.

2

I really feel like it depends on location. I actually really love the dominoes near me.

1

Kinda wonder now if Domino's (and maybe Pizza Hut) is better outside of the US. Quality of local ingredients usually makes a difference.

In the US, if I want cheap pizza, I get LC's. If I want good pizza, I make my own or go to a local pizza place, Round Table, or Mountain Mike's. Or maybe Papa Murphy's (take and bake place). Pizza Hut, Papa John's, and Domino's are to be avoided.

2

They actually do have a way to get $2.99 1 topping or 8 count boneless wings, or $3.36 for a sub.

1

I just found they've been hiding extra charges on our bill, things that are supposed to increase by one dollar increase by two when you add, that kind of shit. I think I might cash out whatever points I have and start ordering elsewhere, AI ads are icing on the shit cake

8

As someone who never sees ads anymore, I would expect everything to be AI now. Is this a surprise? The 70's had composition and light table trickery, then came air brushing, then came photoshop, and now AI. Seems like a logical progression.

Not seeing ads at all fixes that.

But I said this before: the Advertising company that goes out of its way to make crappy, hand made art that is obviously not AI or even CGI or Photoshop, and makes everything look like it was made with love (real love or fake doesn't matter) for the sake of the product is going to make a fortune.

8

Wait till you learn how clothing companies use AI models to present the clothes in the shop. Literally cant go tits up.

4

You may not like it, but this is what 100x productivity looks like! 🤡

2
lemmy.world

This is going beyond the "serving suggestion" bullshit that is commonplace in ads. AI food will never look like the real thing, or vice versa, whichever you prefer.

2
Riskablereply
programming.dev

Oh please. AI generated images of food are just as realistic as the food in traditional food advertisements.

We've all been looking at pictures of painted plastic since forever. Not only that, but photoshopped, painted plastic 😁

2

But that plastic at least exists. You know, food artist is a real job that takes skill, prompting an AI to generate Red Blob and Yellow cylinder Pizza doesn't really

3
  1. No domino's pizza has ever looked like this
  2. Dominoes pizza tastes like someone slapped hot, watery sauce on a thin piece of cardboard and took that tasteless cheese and pepperoni from Lunchables and tossed it in top.

Therefore... No need to discuss this one. Just don't eat Domino's "pizza".

0

I haven't eaten dominions in at least a decade and a half. It terrible like papa johns too doughie for me.

AI is terrible for the environment and is, in general, gross.

27
Grimyreply
lemmy.world

The environmental cost of all the actors and staff driving to the location is much higher than generating the video, not to mention set cost, fake food and prop costs, etc.

People tripping over the environmental cost of software are rubes. Generating text is about 5 seconds of Netflix streaming but you obviously don't look at your own energy usage when watching tv, that would break the echo.
