Rise and Grind folks buying their CEO a new summer house

Reply in thread

...if thats true why are you being a dick to people doing the same thing, who are now not getting paid OT (oh sorry youre a gig worker and you have to hit 40 hrs a week and sorry you somehow worked 39 hrs in one day and maybe someday we will make you part-time with no benefits) and not getting raises (what was your staring salary again?) and have to deal with with the fucked housing market.

Please dont try defend the housing market.

Dude pick a lane. It okay to admit that the world is worse. We want to try and make it better. Thats like the whole point of being human. Making it slightly better for everyone than it was before. Why is that bad?

Or are you shill bot for billionaires?

And yea you sound sound suuuuper privileged to me. Like look up privilege on Wikipedia and its your goddamned face looking back on the first image privileged.

Glad you retired. Good luck and gave fun. Please dont vote in US elections. You won! Congrats! You dont have to weigh in on future matters! You can coast forever and never worry!

Car dealers say they can’t sell EVs, tell Biden to slow their rollout

Reply in thread

I have a 2017 bolt EV - bought used, not one that is advertised as having great mileage even in 2017. I routinely take it 400-500mi plus drives with one or maybe two charge stops for vacation and family trips. Middle of ME to the southern tip of NJ. My home is somewhere in the middle.

Charged off my 110 outlet since I got to car (about 4 years) up to last month Oct 2023 when I got a 220v outlet installed as part of another project. One charge was enough for the week. Occasionally I'd plug in at work or at a friends. Worst case actually pay $5-9 for a DC quick charge if I know I'm doing a long drive. All that is way easier if you just have a place to plug in consistently at home.

I don't get the negativity most people have twords EVs. Everyone is astounded when I say I just plug it into the wall and have to plan longer trips slightly more, like that's not news anymore.

And there's a bunch more DC chargers than when I first started driving an EV - so it's wayyy easier for new folks to adopt.

Removed an old flourescent light from a drop ceiling and found this splice hiding

Wagos my man, wagos. Its wire nuts from the future.

Kill the breaker undo whatever the monstrosity is. Each hot, neutral, and ground gets its own Wago. You buy the type that has enough holes for your problem. If theres 3 hot legs that all should all go together after you remove the fixtue get (3) 3-holes (one for 3 hots one for 3 neutrals one f0r 3 grounds). Strip the hot wires so theres no bare copper outside the Wago and clip em all in the Wago, do the neutrals and grounds in their own wagos and your done. No fire haze. Safer than wire nuts and easier. And I'm not a salesman just used em before.

Wagos!

probably you need 12awg size (the thickness of the copper cable)

Hardware store or amazon. Seriously easy. Cheap. No need for a box. Works just as well for weird 4 wire 277v or whatever.

.....just dont put hot and neutral together. Hots with hots neutrals with neutrals.....

I saved someone's life in the back woods while backpacking.

We tried to cross a water crossing we should NOT have tried to cross, whitewater and way too fast. A few folks came down the other side of the trail and we eventually rigged our bear ropes into a hand hold across the river, maybe 40' wide. Took about 10min to cross and I almost got swept away. First one from their group to cross got stuck, lost her footing, and was holding onto the rope with like 3 fingers. I rushed out and grabbed her pack. Not sure how I got back there so quick but hauld her back up and helped the rest cross. When I got back to the other side my legs were cut TF up from the rocks.

I dont cross white water now.

𝗠𝗲: Are you recording me?..... 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺: How can you tell?

Tf is that.

Even the model they chose for the photos looks uncomfortable wearing it. That ear fold.

Seriously is there any tech bro out there who defends this thing?

What does it actually do that I can't accomplish by many other means in my pocket or at home for less money and more comfort?

I love tech but holy fuck the dude in charge of new tech in the last 10 years seems to hate me.

fragile masculinity

Eh funny but untrue. The dudes I know who are plant people grow anything cool. Ive got a lot of weird and cool plants.

I do grow the super hot peppers, and i like feeding ticks to my carnivorous plants tho. So its not far off.

I also grow tomatoes, eggplants, garlic, cuces, squash, etc.

25 States Agree To Quadruple Number Of Heat Pumps In America

I'm going through this right now with my state (MA). After a lot of talking and finding non-shit vendors and quotes and stuff I've got an application into the state program. About $28k total to remove oil from my home completely in favor of heatpumps and a new water heater. State will give us a 10k rebate and a loan where they pay 7 years of interest. So that works out to 10k upfront we get back and then 7 years of $225/month payments.

We pay $300/month for oil. And that price is always getting higher.

Edit: worth mentioning that we are going for a full whole home rebate - to get the full 10k we are required to heat the same areas to the same heat load to qualify. We could have gone for a partial rebate and done a hybrid oil heat pump system. (Which didn't seem to be a good idea long term with oil costs)

is there any way to invest ethically as a sole individual?

Yea ive run into this problem a lot. If there was some ethical and green EFT that are easy to ID I would buy them in a second.

Ill invest in a stock only if its not tied to oil in any way that I can ascertain, isnt totally corrupt (facebook/nestle are out), and is American owned -since all my stuff is here and the last time I did out of country trades I fucked up my taxes and had extra fees because im too stupid to parse complicated tax law and too stubborn to pay someone to do that for me.

EFTs are hard. Frequently I'll get through a long list of the holdings and then, bam tesla, and im done with it. But Ill go in and buy small amounts of the direct stocks I like.

I haven’t made any crazy gains. Covid wiped out my first year or so of gains and then I was doing great until Trump started up.

Switching to hammocking made a huge difference for me!

Eventually I did the AT and hammocked almost every night. Only drawback was leaving my pack outside overnight and picking off the spiders and insects in the am.
