Sucks to be you, Pheidippides!

Listen fam, Pheidippides is THE OG runner. He ran 300 miles on a round trip Athens - Sparta fun run to ask for help from the persian invasion. Then right after that, Ran to the battle feild, and saw some serious shit. Aka Greek phalanx kicking the crap out of the Persian war machine. Not to make light tho, likely 10s of thousands died in hand to hand combat, and he witnessed the end of the battle. Homie ran home to tell everyone that we won. Then died... In front of the whole city-state. Not a lot of people think about the word epic and what that word actually means. Pheidippides' story is carved in stone. There have been statues of him essentially since his death, and still, there are statues of him today, 2500 years later. And literally hundreds of thousands of people run races in his honor monthly. Hell, he made running cool. Fucking change my mind. Oh yeah, his last words inspired the brand name NIKE, maybe the most famous running shoe company? Pre Fontaine is also a G, but ain't got near the prowess.

What are some of the stupidest, **non-political** takes you've seen on the fediverse?

Someone was trying to say the Van Halen's song "Jump" was about suicide. Despite being presented with an interview with David Lee Roth (who wrote the song) explaining what the song was about. Still think about that. Idk why. Maybe because it was like one of those conversations you have with an edgy emo kid in highschool and realize they are full of shit. Some weird nostalgia I guess

Question for the Professional Bartenders

If you are sitting at the Bar Top and it is not terribly busy, I will gladly make you what ever you want. And let you sample about anything within reason. Any good bartender should be able to talk shop about cocktails.

Typically, when someone orders a drink, you put what they are drinking into the speed-well so one could quickly make them a second. I would assume that if you wanted me to gather several ingredients, that I should keep them handy for your second drink. So you're just asking for a lot of actual labor for 1 drink that maybe difficult to make for what the bar is actually set up to make.

I make TONs of martinis/Manhattans/Old fashions/vodka sodas. So I can make any of those in seconds. To make something like a sazerac or a paper plane or last word? I can do it, but I'm minutes, not seconds. If it's a busy Friday night, and I am making 20-40 drinks every 15 minutes. I am going to put a low priority on making something very complex. Monday night when there are 10 people in the restaurant, yeah let's come up with some new shit.

What is your best diett hacks?

  1. Plain oats with chia seeds for breakfast (no more than a teaspoon of honey[real honey from bees or don't bother] because you still need to enjoy food). Table spoon on Saturday

  2. this is dependent on your budget: Bananas are cheap AF. Eat one whenever you have a craving. Drink a glass of water, eat a banana, then take your supplements (fish oil and multi v) in the morning after oats

2a) Apples/pears/berries. An apple can kill a craving for sweets so quickly. Plus the fiber will clean you out. Other fruit is more expensive and goes bad quickly. But seriously apples can help to be one of those fillers in your diet

  1. Tea. If you don't drink black coffee, switch to tea. No need for sugar and milk, tea is pretty good on its own. More importantly, it tastes just as good cold

  2. Drink water. When I get up in the morning, I try to drink 1 1/2 pints of water. Then start breakfast. Just walked the dog? Chug a pint. Out of the shower? Slug a half pint. Cooking lunch? Drink a pint before you eat. Yes, you will pee a lot. But you skin will look better and you won't have those moments of "shit, I need coffee" A pg* a

  3. Rice and Beans. Make one pot a week. Use oil instead of butter. Lots of beans. Chop up one large onion. Put equal parts quinoa to rice. Last a while and you can spice it or add hot sauce. Use it as a filler for eggs or chicken or whatever

  4. high volume food with low calorie density. Need a snack? Rice cakes, to raw carrots and celery, pickles, cucumber, . Chips and salsa is a good one
