And still beautiful

Assuming it's real, I think it would have to be as chimera. I don't even think an extra chromosome would explain this. I'm oversimplifying a little, but the genetics when it comes to the black/brown coloration is either "tabby" or "not tabby", and "tabby" is dominant, so as long as it received one copy of "tabby", every part of the coat that isn't white should be tabby.

We live in a public transit hell

As an American living in a region with halfway decent (by American standards) public transit, I feel like I hear more comments aligned with the European side than the American side. If public transit has literally any downsides, that's justification enough to drive for so many people.

Your daily steps may depend on your zip code more than your willpower

I'll never forget one of the first times I visited my parents in suburbia after I had moved away to a very walkable city. I borrowed their car to go to the gym & the grocery store, which were a few miles away, but less than a block apart from each other. After finishing up at the gym, I walked across the parking lot to the car, and as I'm climbing in, I caught myself and was like, "WTF am I doing, I should just walk," so I did, but it was pretty miserable. The design of everything was just so car-centric and very unfriendly to pedestrians.

This post inspired me to make my own. I started by laying 10 q-tips on the table, then another layer of 10 perpendicular, and kept going until I had 10 layers of each. In hind sight, I recommend doing 9x9, because the next step was to poke q-tips through the grid vertically, and that pushed the other layers around and some fell off. Once you have the 9x9x9 cube, you can fill in the edges to get 10x10x10. Note that the final cube will actually be a few short of exactly 10x10x10 due to the way the shapes hold together.

Is there an "Avoid Amazon" community for people who want to support smaller online retailers?

Reply in thread

Another issue: multiple times I have gone out of my way to avoid Amazon only to find out the company is still using Amazon for delivery anyway. The most recent one was shoes. I literally went to the physical store to try on shoes, but decided on a color/size combination that they didn't have in stock. The sales person did their magic to order the shoes for me, and they were still fucking delivered by Amazon.
