Play with the pet
I work from home and don't have much of a social life. They're desperate for a break from me.

I'm a loser and made my own. I ran out of q-tips, so it's not perfect, but damn close.

And still beautiful

Assuming it's real, I think it would have to be as chimera. I don't even think an extra chromosome would explain this. I'm oversimplifying a little, but the genetics when it comes to the black/brown coloration is either "tabby" or "not tabby", and "tabby" is dominant, so as long as it received one copy of "tabby", every part of the coat that isn't white should be tabby.

Cervical cancer deaths fall to zero in young women given vaccine
To anyone born too early to get the vaccine in the past, talk to your doctor! I was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year, and my doctor says the cutoffs have changed, so even with my diagnosis, it's still worth getting.

We can't fix any problem without taxing rich
I don't think this is an unpopular opinion, especially on Lemmy.

How much of your salary do you spend on your basic needs?
#DIV/0! I was laid off and haven't been able to find another job yet, so salary is zero, but basic needs still exist and cost money.

We live in a public transit hell
As an American living in a region with halfway decent (by American standards) public transit, I feel like I hear more comments aligned with the European side than the American side. If public transit has literally any downsides, that's justification enough to drive for so many people.

I consider high heels, fishnet stockings, and/or exposed bra straps to be a sexual things. Does that mean no one else is allowed to wear any of those in public now?

Your daily steps may depend on your zip code more than your willpower
I'll never forget one of the first times I visited my parents in suburbia after I had moved away to a very walkable city. I borrowed their car to go to the gym & the grocery store, which were a few miles away, but less than a block apart from each other. After finishing up at the gym, I walked across the parking lot to the car, and as I'm climbing in, I caught myself and was like, "WTF am I doing, I should just walk," so I did, but it was pretty miserable. The design of everything was just so car-centric and very unfriendly to pedestrians.

This post inspired me to make my own. I started by laying 10 q-tips on the table, then another layer of 10 perpendicular, and kept going until I had 10 layers of each. In hind sight, I recommend doing 9x9, because the next step was to poke q-tips through the grid vertically, and that pushed the other layers around and some fell off. Once you have the 9x9x9 cube, you can fill in the edges to get 10x10x10. Note that the final cube will actually be a few short of exactly 10x10x10 due to the way the shapes hold together.

Is there an "Avoid Amazon" community for people who want to support smaller online retailers?
Reply in thread
Another issue: multiple times I have gone out of my way to avoid Amazon only to find out the company is still using Amazon for delivery anyway. The most recent one was shoes. I literally went to the physical store to try on shoes, but decided on a color/size combination that they didn't have in stock. The sales person did their magic to order the shoes for me, and they were still fucking delivered by Amazon.

Hey Lemmy! What is your most beloved and hated British slang?
Probably not technically slang, and maybe not even technically British, but I hate the all variations of "whinge". I know it's a real word, but it always feels like someone misspelling "whine". I was well into adulthood when I finally learned that though, so those feelings are just so ingrained in me at this point.
Thanks for listening to me whine.
