Why is it framed like it's something extreme?

The best thing about lemmy is that it brings back things like this that I often thought about and really wanted to find again to be able to fill the gaps in my memory, but couldn't remember enough about it to be able to find on Google.

Everytime this shows up I wonder if this is really a male nipple or if the creator used a female one just for extra laughs. If it was a serious thing that people actually did it would be hilarious if they were replacing one female nipple for another.

Somehow also reminds me of a story about a singer's album cover released during the latest military dictatorship in Brazil (it was a heavily censored period). Folks went out of their way photographing a woman's asshole with a marble ball on it until they managed to get one that looked like an eye - then used that picture as the album cover.

Another problem I've realized today, is the proliferation of data that was originally hallucinated by AI.

I was discussing an issue on a software with a coworker and he asked an AI for help configure around it. He then sent me "apparently we can try changing this setting to this value". I told him to first validate if that setting really existed because AI tends to make up things like that when it's what you would want to hear and running a test would take us 20~30 minutes.

He found some discussions about that setting not working as people expected. "ok at least it exists then" and we tried it. It didn't work. I later cloned the source of that software and checked, the setting didn't exist - ever.

If he's only looking at the front page, why is he even buying the newspaper? Can't he see it just by walking in front of the place?

I had Duck Hunt but didn't have the gun to play it with - nor the knowledge that I needed the gun. Every now and then I would try and fail to figure out how to play the game.

Meanwhile in my company the leadership just thinks that we have a messaging problem after the new AI stuff we implemented made absolutely no difference in the sales numbers.

Rule of thumb:

• are you making fun or otherwise mocking someone?
• are you doing it for any "bad reason" whatsoever?
• are you doing something that is/was primarily done by others for "bad reasons", historically?
• are you doing something that other groups started doing as a replacement for something else that they were not allowed to (that you are)?

In that regard I have to praise Stephanie Meyer: she made her money and then fucked off, never to be heard from again.

Years ago when this meme first came my way I tried to explain this and nobody agreed with me, it was driving me mad.

I've been using windows for nearly as long as it has existed and I used to always be happy with updates. Even windows vista, despite all its problem, still felt like an upgrade compared to xp.

Then windows 8 started changing things in a direction I was not happy with, but at the same time it also had improvements over win7. Windows 10 repeated that with plenty of bad things but still overshadowed by massive improvements in many areas.

At this point windows was at its peak in some areas, like stability (when was the last time you saw a BSOD without actual faulty hardware?) and usability. Multiple Desktops, WSL2, the new Terminal...so many great things added in win10 updates.

And then comes win11 and shits at everything. Removed a ton of core features that didn't need removing, broke a lot of compatibility with older stuff (something that Microsoft used to care deeply about) and adds... Nothing. It's been quite a while since win11 released and there's still nothing I can point at and say it does better than win10.

If you're going to do all sorts of stuff with my data you should at least try to make me happy with your product in exchange, not make me dread using it every time.

Isn't Canada in an agreement with the US that trades "no tariffs" for "no infringing on copyright"?

If the US is imposing tariffs, Canada should now be free to copy any American product.
