Reddit will block the Internet Archive
People who posted on Reddit ( speaking in the past tense, because who would continue to do so now that we have better things? ) never intended for it to be of limited access. Reddit was a publicly accessible place, and people shared their thoughts and comments on it because it was the frontpage of the internet, so the place of choice to share things with the world. That being scraped should not be a problem. But clearly Reddit didn't want to give you a platform to share your thoughts with the world, they wanted you to donate your thoughts and take it as their property so that they can capitalize on it.

Renee Good Not an Activist, Had Just Dropped Son at School
Her ex-husband said "she was a loving mother and poet who had just dropped her young son off at school"
Her mother called her “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known.”
Vice President JD Vance said she was part of “a broader left-wing network to attack and to doxx and to assault and to make it impossible for our ICE officers to do their jobs.”
It's not out of character for kind loving mothers to be antifascist.

Any Dutch people here? Follow nerdvote.nl, to help decide who to vote for this election. They are suggesting technical minded people should unite and form a block in elections, so that parties will try to cater to us. If you want our vote, come up with plans an proposals to create digital sovereignty and freedom. As a member of PVDA/GL I am probably voting Barbara Kathmann , as she is fighting for digital sovereignty. Without preferential votes she probably won't make it in so your preferential vote matters!

Viktor Orbán concedes defeat as Hungary's Tisza Party heads for election win
People tend to underestimate the enormous success of the EU. It can be seen in the economical developments of Poland and the Baltic states. Ukraine saw it and wanted in on it. Russia knowing that if Ukraine too would 'fall' to democracy, Russia itself would inevitably follow. So Navalny needed to be killed, Ukraine invaded, the EU sabotaged. Hungary was their pawn. Not only could Hungary halt EU decision making through veto's, they could also be used in propaganda. How can Putin be all bad if even this EU country sympathizes with him? The EU will now be very inclined to make Hungary as succesfull as they can. It's too early to celebrate, the Hungarian government will still be filled with lots of Fidesz bureaucrats. And the new government may still be inclined to use its ties with Russia. But the past decades have proven that the cheap Russian oil can't compensate for the corruption that comes along. Magyars anti-corruption stance is pretty much saying: we want to model our country towards the EU examples, not Russia. Lets hope Magyar succeeds and other countries follow. Lets hope that eventually Belarus and Russia will rejoin the European family. The world has much to win here. The US not understanding why they need to support Ukraine tells us they don't care much for democracy anymore. It's understandable that if your government fails to supply you with decent living conditions, you won't be inclined to support helping out other countries on the path towards decent government. But both can be done at the same time: focus on sorting out your own government, while simultaneously supporting other countries on the same path. The EU has been the driving force behind multilateralism. If we want a rules-based order, if we want to save the planet, if we want a better future, we want a strong EU leading the way. We want to support nations in their striving for democracy.

MetaBrainz is a non-profit dedicated to open-source and open-data. So if people don't like the algorithms LB has integrated, they can just build their own.
About not delegating your brain to machines, that's a fair point, and I would encourage people to consciously choose where to use machines and where to use their brain. If you enjoy searching for music, it would be foolish to delegate it to a machine. For me personally though it's usefull, using an algorith here allows me to spend energy on other things that are equally stimulating for my brain. I particularly like LBs 'fresh releases' feature, which gives you heads up about new releases by artists that you've listened to.

"Does Hitler have a right to privacy?" and other big questions in research ethics.
If it turns out Hitler had some bad genes his relatives' descendants will get a bad name. This is obviously a joke, but it's actually true as well. They've all distanced themselves from the name Hitler, but surely some people know about their relation to Adolf. I guess the questions is: how bad is it when you're grandfathers half-brother or whatever his DNA is public. There is a legitimate privacy concern there, that shouldn't be too easily dismissed because 'haha hitler & privacy'.

Microsoft admits it would have to let Trump spy on EU data if demanded
If the EU doesn't combine forces to get out of this tech-dependency, than what do we have the EU for? I am a big fan the EU, it's doing many things for us already, but I'm really hoping we can work our way out of this together, and I hope we choose the FOSS-route so that we significantly help the world forward

Jensen Huang says relentless negativity around AI is hurting society and has "done a lot of damage"
Read the article to see if he makes any valid point, couldn't find one.
When 90% of the messaging is all around the end of the world and the pessimism, and I think we're scaring people from making the investments in AI that makes it safer, more functional, more productive, and more useful to society," he said.
So, I was about to invest some money to make AI safer, to avert it's dangers, but now somebody warned me about those dangers, so now I am scared to make the investments to make it safer. That makes a lot of sense /s
Seems to me it's not investments into AI safety you're worried about, it's the investments into the potentially dangerous service you're worried about.

Texas is about to ban talking on college campuses at night. Seriously.
If and when you're allowed to speak, you may speak freely. It's just that you're not allowed to speak. Rather than limiting 'freedom of speech' it's limiting 'speech'. So that's alright.

South Park updated their profile photo in response to Kristi Noem calling them "sexist" for criticizing her appearance.
It may be very common these days that people alter their appearance through means of plastic surgery and what not. But it's perfectly fair to criticize this behavior. Of course South Park will grab any noticable feature and go over the top with it, so you shooting your puppy becomes you shooting puppies all the time, and you looking like a woman made of plastic becomes your face collapsing regularly.

‘Completely lost his mind’: Trump's 'deranged' letter sends shockwaves across the globe
8 wars PLUS! So many after 8 we stopped counting and now we don't even know what the number is. Thank God that peace will still be predominant, despite Donald not feeling any obligation towards it.

Let it be known that trump is an absolute creep
Seeing this picture my mind wandered to thinking 'this must be an Epstein girl, or a beauty pageant girl or something'. But it's actually his daughter. Not saying that this makes him innocent, he's not. By everything Trump has said and done he's shown he has not the slighest bit of respect for women. I just read in psychiatrist Bessel van der Kolks ' The Body Keeps the Score ' that childhood sexual abuse, despite not being talked about much, is likely the largest public health problem that we face, and aside from the mental problems that come from it, increasingly diseases like auto immune diseases are explained by the unsafety that is experienced during trauma. Trump is infamous for 'grab 'em by the pussy', and people often plead for respect for women through the reasoning that goes: 'just imagine it was your mother, sister, daughter, etc.'. I think the problem with this is that it assumes that people like Trump would never do to their daughter what they would do to women unknown to them. I think the statistics on sexual abuse go to show that many people are abused by those close to them. I also think the prevalency of sexual abuse point into the direction of 'if something feels wrong, something probably is wrong'. The fact that this man is the most powerfull man on the globe is a slap in the face of every sexual abuse survivor.
