rule yeah 💨

I do ICU nursing, and I've seen a handful of young people (like late teens, early twenties) that we were unable to wean off the ventilator (due to ARDS, which is basically a serious form of respiratory failure). A couple were able to get trached (tracheostomy) and will hopefully be reversible eventually, and several have died. Their only medical history was vaping. They were only ventilated to begin with because of like a serious car crash or something. Broken bones, stabilized, and died of respiratory failure... in a young adult with no history except vaping

I'm still trying to quit smoking cigarettes myself, I'm not trying to be a hypocrite. But in my 10+ years of doing this, I've never really seen healthy people go down like that except for during COVID. Maybe they're correlated, like they vape and have had COVID before, idk. It just kinda surprised me to see that shit. We have better success with cigarette smokers (which I'm absolutely not trying to claim is better, cause fuck all smoking... they get the strokes and heart issues). Just a personal anecdote from someone who works in this field

Work from home

I work night shifts. My manager one time called me around 2pm to ask me something menial and waking me up (as I was still sleeping for my next shift at 7pm).

So naturally, I called him at 2AM when I was at work... because I had an "urgent" question about a work policy lol. He got the picture, and that shit never happened again

Woman who threw bowl of food at Chipotle worker sentenced to work 2 months in fast food job

Free labor, and keep her away from customers. Cleaning, prepping, whatever. If she causes problems, she violates probation and serves the rest of time in prison. Give the store an incentive to deal with her. With thin margins, I'd take those odds. Fuck threatening to fire; if you fuck up, you go back to prison. "Now clean the damn fryer's like your freedom depended on it"

My wife and I were adopted last month (I'm pretty sure). We tried finding her home on the social media sites as well as put up picture-flyers around town, still nobody claiming her. So now we have an appointment for vaccinations and a spay, and we'll go from there

What was the dumbest way that you lost a friend?

Cocaine laced with fentanyl. OD'd in the bathtub. Wasn't even (remotely) a regular user; just having a little extra fun on New Years. Was about to finalize the adoption of his and his wife's baby girl too

Another one from alcohol, fell asleep in the bath

Another one from an undiagnosed heart condition

Another from a peritoneal infection from peritoneal dialysis (they had sickle cell)

My sister from benzos and falling asleep in the bath

All of them in their 30's. Been a difficult few years of losing friends/family for me, ngl

You said my activation phrase

I mentioned to my dad how much windows 11 sucks to use and he agreed that he can't stand it

So naturally, I told him about Linux, which he literally had never heard of before. I told him I'll show him how to restore one of his old laptops with it, and he can go from there. Knowing him, I can't wait to see "how cool" he thinks it is that he can just "fix" his own computer

And I've already converted my wife, instead of buying a new MacBook cause hers is showing it's age. She keeps her Mac for backup, but the main computer is Linux Mint. She's even started to understand the terminal a little, even though she doesn't really have to

Slowly converting family and friends, simply because computers are expensive and windows sucks so hard now

What's something that feels illegal to know?

Tails OS. I went to search what it was and read the Wikipedia article. Guess I'm on a watch-list now, cause of my dumb curiosity lol

From Wikipedia

In 2014 Das Erste reported that the NSA's XKeyscore surveillance system sets threat definitions for people who search for Tails using a search engine or visit the Tails website
