Very confusing

The boring answer is that its for reaching the shower controls for adjusting the temperature and pressure without the need to stand under the shower. Mostly for people with disabilites or people who needs aides.

Johnny Appleseed planting apple trees for kids to eat

In Finland there is this law called jokamiehenoikeudet. Roughly translates into "everymans rights"

Everymans rights allow everyone to enjoy nature in regardless of who owns the land as long as it is done responsibly and without causing harm or disturbance. These rights apply to all people, including visitors.

You are allowed to: Walk, ski, and cycle freely in forests, fields, and other natural areas (as long as you do not damage crops or do it on somebodys yard). Camp temporarily on uncultivated land. Pick wild berries, mushrooms, and flowers (aslong as they are not protected.) Swim, row, and use waterways freely.

But you cant: Cause damage to nature, animals, or property. Disturb residents or invade privacy. Light open fires without the landowner’s permission. Drive motor vehicles off-road without permission. Harm protected species or take branches, bark, or timber from living trees.

So atleast in Finland if the fruit tree is not on anybodys yard or planted for a business use, you can eat the fruit and its not a crime.

From all the internet stories this one does not really strike me that unbelivable.

You have a favorite bar. Some dude comes there too for a really long time. You live in same part if town and see regulary eachother, but your interactions are mostly limited to a bar. One day you notice he does not show anymore. Years later he appears again. Not that far fetched you say something to him.

Its not like i dont recognise some people from my youth years when i bump in to them yeara later.

An option to auto-block downvoters

Dont you think its inherendly dangerous to just automatically block anyone who disagrees with you?

If you see only comments that agree with you or interract only with people who have the same opinions, your views will never be challenged. Many of the societys problems has its roots in people living in their own bubble.

Denmark zoo asks public to donate unwanted small pets or horses to feed captive predators

Reply in thread

I dont see any problem? I love my dog and i hope he wont die anytime soon. But what difference it does make if i pay 200€ to have him euthanased and cremated or have him euthnased and feed to the tiger for free?

I even asked from him and he seemed okay with it. Wagged his tail and everything.

Hell, i would gladly have my body fed to the tiger, rather than have some crook selling my family some 8000€ coffing that they see me in once.

I think it depends where they fight.

If polar bear would fight in the jungle it would get hot and go to drink water. At that time it would be completelly open for suplex from the gorilla.

And if they were to fight on the ice sheet the gorilla would not have any trees where to hang tire swing and he would get depressed and unintrested to fight. So in the end it boils down to what kind of social services and safety nets are in the arctic and can they help primates like 1989 released Belgian techno anthem Pump up the jam can help humans.

Yellow paint debate

I feel many people underestimate how important visual cues are for the games. In tighter, more realistic games you can indicate the way foward with things like flickering lights, flash lights in the floor pointing to the right way, glowstick bread crump path or a million different thing.

But with large open world games, where player has freedom of travel its important for the players that they see with a quick glance if the wall is climbable or not.

For the game feel good players need clear rules how the world works. Red barrels explode, breaking this colour crate gives you loot, but these crates are indestructible, objects with this colour can be interactected with this tool etc.

I find it intresting when games have things like HUD on the screen and game highlights enemies and objects you can interact with people dont care about the immersion, but yellow paint is where they draw the line.

I remember reading how somebody hated how Resident Evil 7 marked everything breakable with yellow paint and how it ruined the immersion and made them remember they are playing a game. At the same time there is constantly visible ammo counter on the screen and you have radial wheel to change weapons and those things are not breaking the immersion at all.

Canadians like the idea of public service for young adults. Should it be mandatory?

Hi from Finland.

We have mandatory conspriction for men here, but everybody have option to serve civilian service instead where you basically work free for job goverment orders. Idea being if you dont fight in war you will have basic knowledge for some non fighting role during war time.

You get small pay during this and goverment pays your rent during the civilian service.

Personally i think its great system for a country that has unreliable and potentially hostile neighbor with large standing army and long border.

Millionaire US big game hunter is trampled to death by elephants

While i understand that licenced hunting of big game is good for the local economy and it funds the reservations so they can fight against more descrutive things like poachers and it keeps the wildlife refuges alive so nobody turns the area into highway..

..I also find it somewhat beatifull that the hunt thats purpose is to cull unwanted elements, like for example older males that cant reproduce anymore, but are strong enough to keep younger generation from procreating, ends up removing old male, that hoards recources from younger generations in a completelly differend ecosystem.
