It's worse than that, the tobacco regulator and the company with a monopoly on tobacco production/sales is the same organisation 💀

The left-right spectrum makes less sense to me by the day.
However, I personally define tankies as authoritians who do some mental gymnastics to think that a benevolent "socialist" dictatorship equates to control of society by the workers. (It obviously doesn't. A dictatorship by a minority is exactly that)
Anyone who defines North Korea as socialist needs to reconsider their political positions, in my opinion.
Just because they're in opposition to the capitalist South Korea and the worst imperialist nation in the world, the USA, doesn't mean you need to stand behind the North Korean regime...
All the cool socialists think campism is brainrot (my opinion)

I suppose we just enjoy different things about Star Wars then, for me it's all about the world building, and seeing how characters act within it, the battles and action are just a climax to everything else (I feel this way about all sci-fi and fantasy).
Not saying you only watch it for the battles, but I do mostly watch it for the talking haha
It's why I still very much enjoy the prequels, despite them being pretty shoddy on the plot (Anakin's fall could have been written soooo much better written it hurts. Probably would have needed an extra movie to really sell it though. The Clone Wars TV show episode where Tarkin and Anakin meet for the first time was great if I recall correctly. It made kinda make sense why Anakin bought into fascism in the end.)
To me there's no such thing as a food sci-fi and fantasy without politics (in the sense that there's some disagreement which motivates people). More trade disputes and blockades please, less holdo maneuvers that break existing rules of the world. The holdo maneuver would have been great to destroy the Death Star with some Kamikaze X-Wings jumping to hyperspace through it...
The battles, to me, are only interesting if one fleshes out the world and the political disagreements.
I once started watching a Chinese fantasy show (was learning Chinese, and like sci-fi/fantasy) and it opened with a 10 minute battle, no context. Immediately turned it off, like why do I care, show?

Ah, I haven't been keeping up to date! Shall check it out :)
Not in love with all of Disney star wars, but Andor is hands down the greatest Star Wars I've seen, so I'll forgive them for the rest of the stuff I don't like as much (not including Star Wars episodes 7-9, straight to jail)

I desperately hope you don't mean episode 9.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but damn, do you even like the rest of it? Or other sci-fi and fantasy in general?
The absolute disrespect of not bothering to try to create a coherent world in episodes 7-9 was staggering.
If a piece of media's plot or storytelling is a bit meh, that's forgivable, but when you're just straight up not bothering to think of the logistics or established rules within a fantasy/sci-fi world? Please no. Please stop.
Or at least be writing something supernatural where there are barely any rules and you can hand waive whatever you like.

Pure light being
I know this is a joke, but a bad dog is so much more of a problem than a bad cat. (Not counting feral animals)
Bad cat: angry, wants you to leave them the fuck alone, scratches you at the slightest provocation
Bad dog: hyperactive or jumps all over you or barks at you, can seriously injure or kill you.
Our society takes for granted that you can take your dog anywhere (in Australia at least), and I don't think enough emphasis is placed on the fact if you can't 100% control your dog, don't bring it anywhere near people.
The number of people saying "oh he's friendly" as their dog scares someone afraid of dogs because they're jumping up on them is stupid.
This society values dogs more, and I just don't get it.

This could be your chance to gain more community members if you update your description

I think this logic is silly.
Employers don't own you, so witholding wages for services you provided isn't stealing. Getting a haircut and not paying isn't stealing.
I think the better justification is: rights holders make it a pain in the arse to access content affordably, so fuck you, just going to steal it.

Lemmy.world Hexbear Statement
I echo the dissatisfaction people have with this and won't be donating again. This is Lemmy.world not Lemmy.(we need a safe space from the communists)
The fact you were upset about Beehaw's defederation but then turn around and do this is massive hypocrisy.
This is you imposing your personal ideology on your users. The fact you lead with those 3 "concerning statements" tells us everything. You only like free speech when it aligns with your own beliefs.
Shame.

wacky world
Here's a unpopular opinion: invading your neighbours being wrong aside, I feel like eating dog meat isn't morally any worse than eating a pigs or cows. (Assuming they're not someone's pet).
I'm vegetarian, and feel it's unhelpful and judgy to get mad at people for eating meat, I just think people give countries where dogs are eaten way too much crap. To the point I even think it's subtly racist to judge other cultures for eating dog meat (again, I think we certainly should judge Russia and North Korea for invading).
Dogs are cute, but heck cows are too, so like don't get riled up about people eating one, if you happy eating the other.

‘It’s mindblowing’: US meteorologists face death threats as hurricane conspiracies surge
This is absolutely baffling being from practically any other English speaking country.
I mean, we have our share of crazies, but they're a tiny proportion.
It's one thing to doubt the well established climate science (very frustrating), but it's another thing to actually believe humans can precisely control the weather.
It's extremely troubling knowing these people exist, and can vote in the most powerful country on earth.
😬
Something, something if you believe in things without evidence (religion) it's not actually that surprising. And we (Australia) are much less religious than you. Though, this is certainly my bias talking.
