If you're getting downvoted everywhere you go, maybe your opinions are just shit.

Well it doesn't have to look like that, people can openly discuss what they want to do as a community, deal with it snowflake.

How the beehaw defederation affects us
Reply in thread
Let's not waste our breath pretending a place called "antiwoke" is anything but a racist right wing cesspool. There's literally no other purpose it could serve.
And of course you have censorship on the internet. You need to censor, literally every platform out there that has existed for a reasonable amount of time on the internet has to censor even if it's just to comply with local laws.
In other words, if you don't censor you open up your doors to hosting child porn, it's that simple. So I hope people can see that censorship is a necessary evil and not some binary choice you can make.
So the question is what you censor, not if you censor. And of course there will be things that people straight up don't want. You don't have to be accepting of everything. In fact it's actively detrimental to be.

I'm not gonna blame anyone if they want to kick out communities like "antiwoke" because it's quite clear what's gonna come out of them.

I mean, they aren't treated well by other users, they don't deserve to be and shouldn't be. Paradox of tolerance and all that. They have their echo chamber and leaving it means a bad time. They are still treated well by the platform itself.

It's funny that this "slightly different viewpoint" when pressed for details basically always ends up being hardcore racism, homophobia or other great things.

Ich hoffe Reddit reagiert nicht, der einzige Grund warum ich noch nicht weg bin ist Mangel an Ersatz, die Führung der Seite ist schon sehr lange absolut scheiße und Reddit verdient es zu sterben tbh.

The meltdowns are something else.
On one smaller sub that participated in the blackout people were seriously accusing mods of rigging the votes to stay closed for longer. Of course nothing actually indicated that, and neither did they present any evidence, they just couldn't stand not getting their content.

Reddit CEO: We're Sticking With API Changes, Despite Subreddits Going Dark
Reply in thread
It's not actually about the money in that sense. Don't be fooled.
No, they want to kick out third party apps because that cuts costs and the first party app is way better for pushing ads onto users. That's the real investor pitch, they just aren't saying it out loud.
If it was about being profitable, why charge such outrageous prices?
If it's about covering costs created by these apps, why suddenly drop such a huge change on them with an timeframe that can't possibly be met? Why don't they work together with app developers, communicate things well ahead of time and give them some leeway when necessary?
They just want to kill third party apps without outright saying it and the easiest way to do that is to charge costs they can't pay.

Why wait until it becomes a problem? The_Donald literally started as a joke brought over from 4chan. It grew and over time it basically went from "too small to do something about it" to "too big to do something about it" (to Reddit admins at least). Why even give these people a platform? We don't have any reason to give them space to grow.

for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?
I've been waiting for reddits death for ages, so no. The writing has been on the wall for a long time. I actually really like the idea of the fediverse, keeps any singular entity from having too much power.

[Discussion] Should we defederate exploding-heads.com? (Closing arguments)
Reply in thread
No. Not everyone deserves a seat at the same table because some people just want to take a dump on the table and laugh.
T_D was on Reddit a long time, what has been gained by that? Unabashed racism on the front page and nothing else. If that's the sort of thing you want to fight for, good, then I'm going to fight against that.

What were some "bad habits" on reddit that we should try to avoid bringing over here?
Reply in thread
Well usually the people who get mad about it are the exact same people who want to participate in these communities. "Free speech" to them just means being a racist shithead on the internet without consequences and there is no reason that should be tolerated. Quite the opposite, we should strive to make these people feel as unwelcome as possible.

Starfield locked to 30fps on console, Bethesda confirms

My best guess would be that the engine just has vast amounts of technical debt. Skyrim (pre-LE at least) had a savegame corruption bug that has been around since Morrowind. And while I'm sure they have rewritten huge parts of the engine over the decades it's not rare to see bugs persist over generations, and modders complaining loudly about it. The engine has never been great about asset streaming either so no surprise here.
