Americans to be hit with record-high electricity bills this summer

Reply in thread

I lived in a triple decker back when I was in college and those featured sleeping porches for the summer time. We would drag a futon out there and sleep in the open air with the cool night breezes. Worked well most of the summer (except for rainy/stormy nights and the dog days of August). We did not have AC, just fans. (there were some people who had window AC units in their bedrooms in some of the units). But we lived in a city so our jobs mostly had AC and we would go to the pub, mall/stores, movies, library after work and just hang outside at weekend festivals etc.. all AC or uneeded AC places. Frankly, it was just not hot enough here in the summer long enough to warrant a unit and the increased power bill. Once Labor Day came around it was Fall. In the winter we used electric blankets, long underwear, sweaters etc.

What good do luxury apartments do that no one can afford?

It is very generational. Sorry to be part of the helicopter parent generation. However, as an early GenX I was a free-range parent and the local neighbor parents did NOT APPROVE. I had to search for people that had my same heart. It was wonderful to find an adult willing to let me drop our boys off at the movies and then she would pick them up at the end. They figured out how to purchase snacks, find their seats and how to get out the right entrance.

You could also petition the city for public toilets to be available for homeless people. I mean, every construction site/ public festival I see those aqua blue porta potties. I bet they would rather shit in one of them since no public facility/business will let them in to do that. Everyone poops. Even dogs, pigeons, rabbists, racoons and deer.

homelessness

It has been a choice since the Reagan years (both parties actually) and even before with the redlining etc. I just finisihed reading "There is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America" (Pulitzer Prize Winner) by Brian Goldberg. There are walking saints in this world and one of them is a person featured in his book "LA Pink." He focuses on some families in Atlanta. I highly recommend. He covers from about 2019-2022 so pretty recent. I feel it is really a bruise/scar on our nation that so much of this stirring of human misery/exploitation on the poor (working poor) is so prevalent and seems to never end. Remember the stories from The Jungle, the Tenenment Slumlords who were millionaires, the Triangle Shirt Factory fire??? They are still doing the same shit but making it legal. There is some fucking Heritage Foundation stooge either taking apart the proposed legislation or putting in these loopholes to allow the wealthy to fuck over the poor every time. There has been a class war going on from the beginning, they just don't like when we fight back.

Another ICE murder in Minneapolis

I read that Minnesota has the highest rate of registered voters who vote in every election. This is probably why they are targeted.

Voter registration was highest in Minnesota at 83.6% https://usafacts.org/articles/how-many-voters-have-a-party-affiliation/

Interestingly, more Minnesotans are registered Republican than Democrat or Independent. So... I wonder how this little Nazi Brownshirt brutalism bit is playing on the denizens registered Republican?

Also, your credit score drops if you pay all your debts

heh heh I am at the point where my mortgage is paid and I have no CC debt. I have some savings and retirement accounts. But I cannot rely on this since we have the Trump Tariff Taxes. So I suppose I cannot retire this year as I hoped. I have to save more. My dh is 3 years younger than me and really wants retirement... he is a construction union guy so I tell him to make an appointment w/their funds person and we can design a plan. I will likely continue working part time for the next 6 or 7 years to cover healthcare unless the Democrats pull their heads out of their asses.

Trump undergoes medical exam for swelling in legs, hand bruising

BS He has heart failure perhaps without decreased ejection fraction. He has obviously getting diuretic injections into his hand on a daily basis vs just taking a pill. But it is not common for anyone to have lower extremity edema without some kind of systemic issue. I assume he has already tried wearing compression socks. Another lie to add on top of all the others.

Trump could be actively molesting the children of his cult and they would still make excuses for him and vote for him. He could rape their 14 year old daughters and they would claim their daughters led him on. He could molest their teenage sons and they would claim their sons were misled but sinful. These people are in a cult and their brains will always find a "good reason" to find for their choices. These people are mentally and morally weak people. So yes, they are stupid or evil or both.
