Washing machine chime scandal shows how absurd YouTube copyright abuse can get

Reply in thread

They could also punish false claims. Currently the copyright holders (and not even that, just something that might vaguely sound like your stuff) can automatically send out strikes for any match in the system. The burden to prove it's fair use goes to YouTube channel, and if it's found to not be copyright infringement nothing happens to the fraudulent claimer.

A big step would be to discourage the copyright holders from shooting from the hip.

Framework supporting far-right racists?

Reply in thread

Or, you know, they are sponsoring a) a white supremacists who believes in the white replacement conspiracy theory who's in charge of omarchy and b) the project lead of (not just a discord mod) of hyperland. Two awful people that Framework absolutely deserve flack for supporting.

Even PewDiePie thinks you should install Linux on your computer after saying he was "tortured by Windows"

Reply in thread

He's had some controversial things. In 2017 he said the n-word while live streaming a game. The other big one I know of is he made a video where he showed he has paid one of those fiverr groups of Indian children to hold up a sign that said "death to all Jews". Pewdiepie didn't think they would actually do it.

They are really not great situations, and the second one I mentioned he should have realised was a bad idea and not done at all. Back in that 2017 era he positioned himself as an edgier meme YouTube, but he has since apologized and vastly changed his content, and i personally believe he's a very changed person from a decade ago. But the stigma has stuck around.

Switzerland plans surveillance worse than US

Reply in thread

The Nazi gold is still very much a thing. And the descendants of Jewish people who died in concentration camps are often unsuccessful in reclaiming any wealth that was stored in Swiss banks, because they don't have death certificates and what not. Switzerland is incredibly stubborn and selfish when it comes to anything that would tarnish their neutral stance in banking and politics.

It's not normal to become alienated from your SO because of a meme. The healthy thing for him to do is to open up to his SO about these feelings. This is the same thing as being mad at someone because they were mean in a dream. Bring it up in a conversation, laugh at the silliness of it, and move on.

Not strictly LLMs, but neural nets are really good at protein folding, something that very much directly helps understanding cancer amount other things. I know an answer doesn't magically pop out, but it's important to recognise the use cases where NN actually work well.
